If the Cards trade down 8-12 spots in the draft, I wouldn't at all mind them taking Tyron Smith (OT, Southern Cal). He's probably the best OL prospect in this draft.

The writer considers Maurkice Pouncey's arm length a huge dissappointment. I don't think arm length is as important for an interior lineman as it is for a tackle.

As it was explained by the NFL "experts", on the combine TV panel, with the evolution of the holding call that allows all OLmen to get their arms outside, long arms is a premium all along the line and short arms is a negative. Makes sense to me.

Sure does, but since it's measured on a gradient of desirable traits, how highly do we place it?
Is it a new trump card?

Imo, Anthony Castonzo Left Tackle out Boston College is the best prospect. According to the scout report Castonzo is very athletic and can wear on pass rushers . He needs to improve in the running game. Imo the Cardinals need to take him with the #5 pick overall. He is a 4 year starter at Boston College. Which means he protected Ryan, qb of the Falcons, his freshman year at Boston College.

Tyson pretty much secured himself first OT off the board by weighing in at a good 307.

Solder is another guy who put on the necessary weight.

I saw every game Castonzo played the last 4 years, Vinnie, and I think he's the best and most athletic edge pass protector the Eagles have ever had---and we have a history of great NFL caiber o-linemen.

He did a great job the last two years against the likes of Robert Quinn and Da'Quan Bowers.

He got beat by Brooks Reed in the Senior Bowl game...but even the announcers said it was because the QB did not step up into the pocket.

Imo, he is excatly what we need---a tall and surprisingly agile LT who plays the angles in textbook fashion.

I think we either trade down to get him in the first or trade up into the first round. I am hoping one of the top tackles has a bad combine and drops to the second round. If we were to trade Fitz for two first rounders I would take Castonzo and Carimi.

That's another option I've considered when I've thought about trade downs.

IMO we still desperately need a LT either through the draft or free agencey (Jared Gaither).

I agree with your thoughts about Castonzo...he's big, athletic & nasty...just what the Cards need.

You know what's going to happen, don't you? The Cards will end up trading back into the first round, somewhere around 23, and we'll get all excited when they go back on the clock, because Mallett and Locker will still be on the board. Then we'll end up taking... Nate Solder, OT, Colorado.

It'll be Alan Branch ahead of Paul Posluzny and Miller all over again.

It's not what I would do, but FWIW, I think the Cards are comfortable going into the season with Bridges, Brown, and Keith at the position, and will be looking for a hybrid guard to replace Herman Johnson in the middle rounds of the draft.

Well after watching the combine today I came away with all the top tackles looked very good and will all probably go in the first round. The TE class was better than I thought they would be and the prospect that I really wanted to see looked very good. Julius Thomas is my pick for us at TE in the later rounds.

The nice thing about Peterson and Costanzo is they both hit the field and start with little to no "yeah buts." Nice if the team could figure out a way to get Kolb by trading down to Philly pick throw in a 3 or next year two and pick up Costanzo albeit he won't last that long (sigh), team cannot fill the other crucial holes in front 7....I guess with two picks in the first two rounds you can't solve all the problems!!! Carimi is equally as good on the other side.

I agree on that with Castonzo. We really need some athleticism off the edge. He would be a great pick in first round. What i like is that he is so atheltic and yet is not having major troubles with bull rush. He is not that mismatch inside. And off the edge, outside, he would instantly be by far the best we have. Gandy brought some athlelitcism before, and we have lost that completely with Levi and Keith. Gandy was also a mismatch against bullrushers or DE that also had some sort of inside game.

Also seems as a player (Castonzo) that really loves the game. It would be nice to see him at LT, and moving Levi to LG or to RT.

What is your opinion on Herzlich? To me he stands out as the toughest player in the draft, by far. His tapes really show a warrior. That is what football is all about. He is much slower and not as strong as he has been, so now he is not that dominant. But that can really come back fast in no time i believe. It's about physically coming back. His passion and feel for the game have not lost a step. I think he can play and based on technique and instincts and the impact he can make, he is top 5 player in the draft in my opinion.

He is fantastic against the pass, it is rare to see big linebackers being so technically polished in coverage. And he can passrush and tackle. Now lately, he is offcourse bad against the run, can't shed blockers like before, and is not sideline to sideline as he has been earlier. But i strongly believe that the athleticism will come back.

Due to his versatile skills, he is a complete footballplayer and can really play any linebacker position, wheter it is 3-4 or 4-3 (maybe besides WLB in 4-3 as only exception). He is also the type of person that makes any defense better by leading and bringing that warrior mentality. That is what we need.

He would be a fantastic option as SOLB in our 3-4 where he could cover TE's and passrush and play the run. Or put him inside.

I would love to see both these Eagles as Cardinals.

Carimi is one of the best runblockers i have seen in long time. He is a mauler, that's for sure. I would love to actually see him inside in NFL, the way he locks up lineman reminds me of Larry Allen. He is so strong and he can also hold often so that it's really hard to see for the refs.

Wonder what the scouts think about players wearing the ear buds and head sets on the field.
