There had to be mutual interest at some point because Bud spent days with the Suns. A hurdle must have come up that couldn't be overcome.
They kept interviewing other people. I think that was the hurdle. If they liked him, they should have hired him then and there. Triano should have been interviewed immediately after the season.

That's my take. I am not going to assume it was about money.

Actually the Suns interviewed Triano all season but I understand a formal interview.

My guess the hurdle was the Suns would not commit to Bud so they kept interviewing people. If the Suns did not know Bud was the top candidate, then why spend days with him.

A good coach is not going to be kept on the line when the client keeps fishing.

This is pathetic. Budenholzer was Pop's right hand man, we could've developed a winning system here in Phoenix. And all that, gone.

What a ********* joke.

I hope you guys are excited for the likes of Kevin McHale, Frank Vogel, Jay Triano or Steve Clifford....all disastrous head coaches who will fail here guaranteed.

Budenholzer could've changed the entire outlook of this team.

You can say that again.

Every post here since the news came out -- every single one of them -- points to our dysfunctional team and current history.

From his perspective, I don't blame Bud for pulling out. But it sure is disappointing.

From the laughingstock of the League to start the season to this. The Press, the fans, the City can do nothing about it.

How long are the other investors going to tolerate it?
If they've tolerated it this long then I don't think there's anything that will make them stop.

Sometimes you interview for a job and turn it down. Why is this such a difficult concept to understand? I've turned down a dozen jobs, and in most cases it had nothing to do with the company interviewing me/ offering me the job.
'Sorry Stef, but the generalization doesn't apply to the Suns situation.

But if you did interview with a company and heard that your potential boss was on shaky ground, would you choose it over a company without that kind of negative? In management interviewing, both the interviewer and applicant consider the positives and negatives. The Suns situation is filled with negatives.

Sadly, sunsfan (aren't we all? :) ), you're right.

I guess Mr. Sarver got his NBA degree from the Donald Sterling School of Basketball Management.

I have no idea what happened but I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out Pop is stepping down and Bud is taking over. I also wouldn't be shocked to learn that he got an under the table offer for the Bucks opening (they don't want to do anything publicly until they are out of the playoffs). And who knows, maybe the Suns were made aware of the compensation demands by Atlanta and made it clear to Bud that they wouldn't go that high?

Also, Bud supposedly doesn't interview well, maybe he just didn't win them over. And yes, maybe it's simply money. But given that Ryan went out of his way to say that money would not be an issue, I tend to think that isn't the problem.

That is just so unfair. If anything, he got his NBA degree along with Dan Gilbert. Sarver has spent plenty of money in the past as far as players go but he and Gilbert both believe that management is management and that they shouldn't be getting more than their counterparts in the business world. They're wrong.

OMG...for real?? WOW!

Yeah, I've seen it many times. Mostly from the same few posters but a lot of others voicing their agreement. Plus I've seen others insist that it has to be at least 2 first round picks without specifying our number 1.

Well....prolly.

But tell me we don't get another 15-20 wins next season adding Ayton plus a healthier team and maybe an improved Booker/Jackson.

As much as I want Ayton over anyone else, I don't think there's ANYONE in this draft that is going to add 15-20 wins, even with Booker/Jackson improvement. You're talking quantum leap with 20 wins. 10 is more likely, with 15 being the ceiling, unless literally EVERYTHING falls into place, IMO.

Yeah I was thinking more like 15 wins...but 20 is possible if the stars line up just right.

And if they wanted to swap our first for theirs in addition to the 16th pick, as many have suggested?

that's a ludicrous suggestion... for a guy coming off 25 wins. And fans ALWAYS overrate their own... all you have to do is look back at when Bledsoe demanded off and fans here thought we could get Brooklyn's pick for him.

yeah, but I think that's literally all boxes being checked in one season. That's pretty unlikely.

I'd guess 10 to 15 more wins is in reach but with the right coach and the right veteran FA or two, who knows?

I think 10 is lowballing it though cheese. Ayton would really balance this team out. I mean we had f'n Chandler , Len, and spineless Bender holding down the middle. And half the team MIA

I certainly thought it was ludicrous. Here I am reluctant to give them the 59th pick in the draft and I see them talking about our number 1 plus the 16 or the future Miami unprotected pick.
