Coro: O'Neal and Blanks verbal confrontation

Jerry deserves part of the blame for selling to Sarver.

Do you really think Jerry Colangelo thought Sarver would run the Suns in the manner that he has?

If my recollection is correct, I thought Colangelo took more pain to sell the Suns to a believed better owner after his departure from the Diamondbacks. At least the Valley has one major league Championship thanks to Colangelo.

I keep seeing this idea floating around and it makes no sense to me. In the beginning, Sarver acknowledged that he knew little about the game or the NBA and that he was going to rely heavily on experts. I guess Jerry could have insisted on a polygraph but failing that he had no way of knowing what Sarver would do to this organization.

Let's not forget Brian Colangelo was here to help with the transition. Blanks and Babby are taking this franchise down faster than Sarver ever has.

Well, this just gets better. You know, normally coaches lose their jobs when they lose the respect of their players. In this case, the opposite may take effect. Seems like no one but Blanks wanted this coaching change. Hunter is not going to be very well liked. It's quite possible he was already not very well liked by the players or the coaches, judging by some of the things that are being said or hinted at. The Suns already lost two assistants.

Agree with this. Jerry sold the team to someone who had passion for it. For all we knew it could have been another Cuban situation. First and foremost this was a business transaction. Second, I bet he did get a feel for buyers. I don't blame Jerry one bit. I do regret that he sold the franchise because I don't think we would be where we are at right now.

Thats asinine. Jerry took his time with the sale and found a quasi-local guy (Tucson, not PHX, and lives in SD) to buy the team. Thats a lot better than what many owners do, selling it to an out of towner who may want to move the team. Jerry also stayed involved in the Suns for a few years and slowly phased himself out, but in theory was teaching Sarver a bit on the job and trying to show him out to do things the right way.

When you sell something to someone, you only have so much control. There's no way JC could've known what Sarver would do.

Well, IIRC, there was some health reasons and some estate planning issues too probably.

It was not Coro that broke the story it was Wojnarowski. read the article he is says there is a real medical issue and is asking for prayers, not sure a player would go that far.

In a Paul Coro article dated 1-22-13 at azcentral, he wrote as follows:

Blanks interviewed several players when weighing the interim choice but did not include O’Neal, a co-captain, leading to speculation that it was the root of a “loud, expletive-laced confrontation” that Yahoo! reported.

“That’s a blatant lie,” O’Neal said. “It had nothing to do with the coaching change. It was a personal issue about me. It was an argument between two competitive people. We have strong beliefs.”

If the quote is correct, note there was a an argument. Maybe it was not over the coaching change but there appears to have been a loud confrontation. I heard they all made happy after it was over. Who knows?
