I'm just so glad we lowballed guys like Tramon (who reportedly could have been ours for a million more) and every other half decent corner. Now we have plenty of money, one starting WR/CB, and nobody decent left in FA.

Keim Time!

Why Cards didn't offer a certain player more than other team? IMO, I think Cards have a number (likely low-medium-high) for every player based on their Analytics. If the player's ask is more than "high" they will pass on the player. Cards in recent years say they are relying on Analytics more and more.

Doesn’t the money roll over now? I’m cool with having more to spend next year if Bradford looks good AND stays healthy or we draft a promising rookie qb this year.

We have no shortage of CAP space in 2019 and Bradford is already under contract for next season.

That’s true but next year’s cap space will fill up quick considering half this year’s starters aren’t under contract for 2019. Draft picks will fill up some of those spots.

Yeah, 'cause why bother trying to win this year? It's the NFL; it's not like you can have a quick turnaround to being in the playoffs again :sarcasm:

I’m with you. Just pointing out that our cap space next year is a bit of a mirage considered the current roster.

Over the Cap has us at $18M which is close to what Jurecki is reporting.

Over the Cap also has the Cardinals estimated for about $7M for the rookie pool:

https://overthecap.com/draft/

So that would leave the Cardinals with about $10-11M to spend on free agents.

You have to remember that we already have over 51 players. We have 8 picks so 8 players will have to be cut and their costs will be added to the decrease. In reality it should be about 2 mil for the rookies as those cut players will decrease the total value of the rookie contracts.

Like this:

Rookies cost: 7 Mil

8 Released players: 5 mil savings

Est cost of rookie contracts: 2 mil

take the 2 mil from the cap amount of 18 mil

you have 16 mil.

usually when a site reports on cap space this time of year the rookie pool has already been deducted.

Seems like they should have grabbed a CB.
Keim is making a lot of head scratching moves this offseason. He is low balling guys in hopes they sign out of desperation but they are getting more elsewhere except Matthieu. He is putting a lot of pressure on himself to fill the remaining holes in the draft but a lot of his recent picks aren’t with the team anymore. Maybe he’s waiting to see who is available after June 1st.

there will be lots of veteran cuts as the summer advances.
from what we have seen I am pretty sure we plan to draft WR early and start the rookie, but keims history clearly shows we will sign a vet corner before camp and if he doesnt work out we will sign another in pre season

For rookies they need 6/7 mil cap room?
How to use part of this salary
I dont see reasons to extend a rb when u can tag him a couple of time for a reasonable price, and then being free agent at 29, when a rb start to slow down
We need a tigh end, cb, wr, safety
I wish cardinals can get Tre Boston, bathea will be 34
Usually the cards keep 5/6 left mil when season starts

So 19.8 mil of cap room
6/7 rookies
5/6 emergency cap room for the season

part of the salary cap should be used for free agency 7/8 mil

lets not forget Keim is good at signing players let that appear to have a good positive effect on the team. Having some of this cap space in back pocket will be helpful as Cardinals approach summer and fall.

Do it so you're not paying him nearly $20 million by then. DJ doesn't have that much wear and tear. Beat the Bells and Elliotts of the league to the large contract.

I don't believe the NFLPA site, where the numbers were being quoted form, does that. Their cap is updated as the contracts are approved/activated.

Two players who could help Cardinals without breaking bank is Jonathan Hankins and Trey Boston that area still available.

I wonder what is going on with Hankins, 26, had that huge 7 sack season in 2014, big contract from Indy last year and doesn't look like he was that bad there. He made 2-3 visits but nothing has come of them, haven't heard his name in a couple weeks, wondering if he's looking for big money? Maybe we get lucky and get him for a decent 1yr prove it deal.

Must be money with Hankins. With Cards going to 4-3 he is a perfect 2-down run stop guy. Adding Hankins will have the D-line set for 2018 between Corey Peters, Hankins, Golden, Jones and others
