I can tell you right now there’s no way in hell we’re getting Grady Jarrett. I’m 99% sure the Falcons are going to give him an extension.

I love everything else. Though, I think that’s too early for Pratt & would go Safety or WR before ILB imo.

Yeah the Falcons say that he is their top FA priority. However they have a bunch of other FA who they also need to pay. Jarrett is going to want to be paid! If they can't come to an agreement before the start of FA then the Cardinals have a good chance.

Drafting by position is a recipe for disaster. That is how you get Levi turnstile Brown over AD. IMO you fill your needs in free agency so that you can draft the best players available regardless of position.
Even BPA-route, I don’t think he’s a 2nd rounder imo.

I don't remember who, but someone I read really likes him and has him going high in the second round. I have not watch him this year, but saw a bit last year and the only thing I can remember was him hitting the wrong gap several times a game. I do like the kids size and speed though, but it's tough to teach instinct. I look forward to looking at him after the season is over and see how he improved. I have to agree looking at him last year I did not see a second round pick either.

I think they’ll be closer to 10. I think they’ll win 3-4 more games and draft 8-10.

Rosen improves and so does leftwich. They’ll beat Oak, Det, and Seattle. Getting a 4th will be tough but there’s usually a goofy upset somewhere along the line.

Detroit is definitely a hinge game. If we’re the worst of the mediocre teams, we should win that one. The lions are not aggressively bad. If we’re a bad team, we’ll lose by 6-10.

Football outsiders gives us a 13% chance of getting the first pick. I do respect that you think this team can go .500 down the stretch.

Pugh will be our LG next year. He's better at LG than RG. We would need a RG & a RT next year.

Pugh will be our LG for how many games next year? We need the best quality guards we can find regardless of which side they play, because they will probably end up playing both at some point.

The Cardinals will pick somewhere in the top 10 next year. I'm guessing somewhere around 4-7.

Here are the Major moves that I think the Cardinals should make:

Free Agency:

Markus Golden - DE - If Golden stays healthy the rest of the year and finishes strong then I would love to have him back. The kid is a baller who gives it his all on every play. You can never have enough of those type of players on your team.

Quinton Spain - LG - This will be Mike Iupati's last season with the Cardinals. Spain would be the best choice to replace him and would instantly be the starter at LG.

Daryl Williams - RT - The current coaching staff is very familiar with Williams as he currently plays for the Panthers. He wouldn't be cheap but would be a major upgrade at RT. Protecting Rosen should be a top priority!

Grady Jarrett - DT - The Robert Nkimdiche experiment has blown up in Keims face IMO. It's time to get a dominate player who can be trusted to do his job. Jarrett would be another pricey addition but would make the DL of Jones, Peters, Jarrett and Golden one of the best in the league.

Tyrell Williams - WR - This former UDRFA for the Chargers has improved each and every year he has been in the league. He would be a solid #2 or #3 WR on a team where that position has suddenly become a weakness. Tyrell will give Rosen another weapon he desperately needs.

2019 NFL DRAFT:

Round 1: Quinnen Williams - NT - Alabama: Corey Peters is one of the most undervalued players on the Cardinals. However he is going to be 31 years old with 2 years remaining on his contract. Drafting Williams will give him the opportunity to learn from Peters as well as make an already dominate DL on paper that much better. In year one Williams will be a rotational player with Peters keeping them fresh. He will also be in during all short yardage/goal line situations. By year two Williams should be starting, with Peters seeing less of a work load. This gives the Cardinals Jones and Golden reeking havoc on the outside, with Jarrett and Williams providing a push up the middle.

Round 2: Germaine Pratt - LB - NC State: Pratt is a tackling machine with good size and speed. The Cardinals desperately need help at LB and Pratt would give them another weapon.

This would be an ideal plan for me as well. I would love if we would focus most of our resources in the trenches. Adding a much needed playmaker on the outside with Tyrell would be nice too.

Quinnen Williams is one of my favorite prospects I have ever evaluated. Quit Winnen for Quinnen is my mindset right now!

I'd be happy drafting Quinnen Williams or really anyone from Alabama. Jonah Williams is awesome. We could slide DJ Humphries to the right side.
It seems like the logical thing to do - Cards need a tackle, Humphreys is mediocre at LT, at the top of the draft the will be great LT prospects, & it's way too high to take a RT.

Yet, Humphreys was worse than mediocre at RT. His inability to play RT seems to block the logical move from happening. The Cards are almost stuck with a mediocre LT, and might as well pick up an RT later in the draft or in FA, and resign themselves to having mediocre tackles.

Unless, with a couple more years of eexperience & maturity, Humphreys could play RT after all. Or unless the Cards move on from him, though they can hardly afford to leak more talent.

My hope would be that the LT we draft in the top ten could also play RT. The way many Defenses move their pass rushers around having a great RT wouldn't be a waste. Plus if hump gets hurt we can just slide the RT over to LT.

Plan on a top ten pick. Until the season ends it doesn't really matter. A lot can change between now and then.

Looking at schedules Oakland seems like a show in to have the top pick. I do not see them beating anyone left on their schedule. Cleveland has 3 more potential wins since they get the Bengals twice and the Ravens. The Giants have two chances, tonight and next week with the Bucs. Their last game is the Cowboys and that is always anyone's guess. The Niners have the Giants and then the Bucs after their bye week. They get the Seahags twice so you never know with a division game. Depends on how well Mullens continues to play. Everyone else has 3 wins so right now it's the Raiders (1-8) and Giants (1-7) followed by the Cardinals and Niners at 2-7 so we are now in the top 4 which is still trade down territory.

If SF wins tonight, where do we draft? If the Giants win, where do we draft?
A Niner wins moves us to #3, a Giants win puts us in a with the Giants. A Niner loss would put them at #2 since they would be 2-8. They still haven't had their bye week yet. The Raiders have a solid hold on #1 right now.

^ They have already picked up the 5th year option on DJ Humphries and you don't take a right tackle in the top ten. So no badly needed line help coming.

I’m sorry, but I don’t understand that point, Don. As I see it, nowadays very few edge rushers are lining up exclusively on one side, because they are moved around to create mismatches, and thus it is no longer a reasonable assumption that a right tackle needs to be a huge mauler with his primary strength in the run game. In fact, I believe a right tackle has to be just as athletic as a left tackle, and I would have no problem with drafting one in the top five, top three or even with the top pick as they have become worth the investment.

I think the idea is that it's a big risk to take a LT in the Top 10 and expect him to switch positions and be effective. It can sometimes take years, or it never happens. D.J. Humphries went from a bad RT to a serviceable LT. You have to change your muscle memory altogether from what is often a career of playing one way.

That is a great plan, MadCard! I would especially like a signing of Daryl Williams who is probably one of the better right tackles in the league. Had he not been injured this season I am pretty sure he would command a hefty payday in free agency, and he might still do that. I could easily see the Panthers bringing him back, but he obviously has a relationship with Ray Brown so maybe he can lure him away.

I really like all of your other free agency suggestions as well, though I must say that I would be shocked if the Falcons let Grady Jarrett anywhere near the open market. I am sure they will simply give him their franchise tag if they have any problem signing him longterm.

I haven’t started looking at draft prospects so I don’t really know what to think of your choices, but I like the positions.

Have these people ever watched Justin Herbert?
I saw him in person at the Oregon game. I couldn’t believe how unimpressive he was. I honed in on him on every play because of the hype. Very unimpressive against an undersized Arizona defense. Yet he is the near consensus top pick if he comes out. Glad we got Rosen...
