Cut Kolb-Start Skelton-an option?

I think JOhn Skelton improved last year - yea he has warts and flaws but who does not? He can throw it through a wall, had no camp last year either and 271 was his lowest yard total in the last 4 wins of 2011!

I don't dislike Kolb, I think He is what He is, an average NFL QB with little upside, He started for the Eagles with the same results. He had happy feet and rolled right- out of bounds as much as he threw the rock away? whats up with that. everybody screams oline - BS Skelton outperformed Kolb with the same team, so did Vick and Mcnabb for that matter.

I have Kolb and his contract and future in my left hand!
I Have Skelton and his contract and upside in my right hand!

I think Kolb deserves a pay cut and John deserves a raise.
That is what i think - I have them graded equally. did from the start.

EDIT: I was reminded that each team can utilize two exceptions per year to this rule, provided the player's contract is terminated prior to June 1. Basically, the players' are treated like those who are cut after June 1. In those cases, the remaining signing bonus would be carried over to the following season.
So what does that mean regarding Kolb's situation? The way I read it, it means the Cardinals would take a $2 million cap charge in 2012 and the remaining $6 million cap hit to 2013, if they choose to.

I think it is a real option. In fact, if Manning doesn't make a decision today, we might very well cut Kolb and hope Hasselbeck lands in our laps.

That being said, I bet the Cards don't see it that way. They are hung up on blaming Kolb's terrible season on a lack of an off season and injuries. Wondering what their excuse will be to keep him after next season...

I don't think there is any chance Skelton is cut loose. He has too much upside and could be groomed behind a more seasoned vet for a couple of years before he is ready to take the starter spot for the next decade.

Absent Manning, i think its premature to completely give up on Kolb.

He will either seize the starting job securely or he will be gone. Anything short of being "sure fire starter" at QB means he is released after this season.

Almost no point in releasing him now.

And go with Skelton, Bartel, and a newbie into the season? Too risky. Especially with how dry the free agent market is this season for quarterbacks.

You're one hit away from having Bartel being the starter for the season. That proposition scares me.

The best bet is to keep the guys on the roster who know the system.

Unless Peyton signs, then all bets are off....

I think I read that Kolb is like a $8 million cap hit this year, while Skelton is less than a million dollars. Kolb isn't 8x's more accurate than Skelton.

the concussion thing would be my main concern, but for all his positive traits (and Skelton has many)...Skelton is still absolutely horrible when it comes towards accuracy. Having a freak at WR like Larry will mask some of the inaccurate throws but he is just not accurate. I'm hoping that possibly working on the footwork can make him get better but accuracy is something that does not usually improve too much unless it was first the result of not knowing the playbook.

I mean Brown aint worth 17 million but still -We Have Snyder and Bridges at tackle at this point?

We may need 3 Steve Skelton's to keep John Skelton alive long enough to hand it to Beanie?

I agree it is too early to call it in on Kolb, but It is not too early to think Skelton can reach out and choke the oppurtunity with one large hairy hand. Hell John might be the answer at Tackle?

IMO, 2012 will prove which QB has more upside.

Skelton will be 3 years out of Fordham and in his third year in the system.

Kolb will be in his second year in the system. Two years removed from the west coast offense.

Bottom line: no more excuses, either way.

This is why it is important to keep both on the roster, even if Kolb carries a huge cap number. One of the two with notable upside has to pan out.

I will say this. The one game he played after his turf toe injury against Dallas, his pocket presence, for which he has been lambasted, was impressive. My hope was that he would expound upon that the rest of the season, but unfortunately got hurt again.

Skelton was the poor man's Tebow and was somehow winning games at the end (again, a lot of it being Fitzgerald playing out of his mind) but I remember usually watching the first three quarters and going "How much worse can Bartel really be?". It was that bad...and I remember watching those games. Skelton, thankfully, didn't make the hole to climb back as worse as Plummer back in the day, because his passes where so bad that not even the defense could pick them off and the defense held on in remarkable fashion. Those where very painful games to watch and hardly anything to put much faith in unless you just suffered through a Derek Anderson season. My observation is we still do not have a starting QB on the roster because Kolb has a concussion problem that medically cannot be fixed and will probably only get worse

Personally, I don't think any QB is going to be very successful until the offensive line situation is fixed. Peyton of course being a possible exception, because he can release the ball quickly and is heads and shoulders above our current QBs. But, Kolb isn't going to be able to do anything if he's constantly running for his life and worried about his next injury...which is what I saw in his eyes when he was playing last year.

I am rooting for getting Peyton still. But i dont cut Kolb if we dont sign him. If I recall, wasn't kolb finally getting it during the second half of the Cowboys game where almost every drive was a score? Only to result in the second play of the next game against SF get a concussion. I would keep both Kolb and Skelton and roll the dice one more year to see which one emerges. Again minus Signing Peyton.

Yes Kolb did ok, beat Dallas. But We have this years 2nd and DRC invested plus the X8 or X10.
But Hell we moved up in the draft to get Skelton too! HA HA

Skeltons last 4 games were good, even after stumbling at the start, I would be happy if Kolb mached that ! and that match should be the other way around!

I don't blame Kolb for being hurt, I like Kolb, but I still haven't seen the #1 and #2 picks and 56 million contract Whiz and Graves seen in him.
I would like to be wrong, really wrong would be better. I don't see him as a top 15 QB even if we pass 2 out of 3 times again,

Not all the time..

It was not his fault, Kolb's skittish pocket presence during the early part of the season had cut ruts into the turf and Skelton was caught in them sometimes and found himself taking the same path because he could not step out of the ditches (that is why Levi refused to fully extend on some plays blocking around the corner, he did not want to fall in one of those ditches)

I am in agreement short of signing Peyton Manning keep Kolb. Kolb Passer Rating last season was 78 and Skeleton 30. I would love to see both qbs work on their footwork. footwork equals accuracy. I also believe both qbs will be better this year than last with a full offseason under their belt.
