I'm not one for jumping on the latest free agent release, but isn't it obvious that Levi Jones would be a better acquisition and OL depth than Oliver Ross? (PFT says the Bengals have officially released Jones.)

Sweet! I don't know how his injuries and such are but even with the risk he is a far better player than Ross.

He'll want to be a starter. Plenty of teams can offer him that. I don't think Arizona can.

Levi Jones will want the money and the playing time. Cardinals can't afford him, and can't guarantee him a starting spot, although he would likely land one.

Please don't ask for verification, but a few weeks ago Levi did mention he would like to play for Arizona. Bookends Levi(s), guard Gandy and whatever your imagination can think. A good offensive line with decent backups, don't wake me if I'm dreaming.

A couple of years ago, I went to Cincinnati to do a story on the Bengals and their dramatic turnaround. (They've since turned it around for the worse, doing a complete 360). Anyhow, I spoke to offensive tackle Levi Jones, an ASU product, who happened to mention to me that he would love to play for the Cardinals some day.
Jones, who is from Eloy, re-signed with the Bengals but has dealt with injuries the past few years. The Bengals are trying to trade him and could end up cutting him soon. Jones would still like to play for the Cardinals.

Here's what he told our page 2 columnist Bob Young today:

"I definitely would want to play here (Arizona). That would be the ultimate goal. I don’t fully know what their situation is at tackle or what their needs are. It's in God's hands. I'd love to come home, but wherever I'm called, that's where I've got to go. it's the nature of this league."

Jones on his health:

"My health is good. A lot of people thought it was my knee last year, but i it was actually my right leg. I had a lot of scar tissue up and down my right leg that caused it do go numb. I got that operated on this year and I’m good. I'm here in the Valley working out at API every day."

I don't know if the Cardinals are interested. They seem set with left tackle Mike Gandy and right tackle Levi Brown. (If they signed Levi Brown, they could have a pair of Levis. Pretty cool). The Cardinals also like their young tackles, Brandon Keith and Elliot Vallejo. We'll see where the situation goes.

doesn't he have a pretty extensive injury history or am I think of someone else?

Levi Jones was set to make $3M next year, which isn't much for a pro bowl tackle. He would probably take less than that to play for the cards, because he obviously wants to play here. We could put him in gandy's spot, then move gandy to LG... sounds good to me!

Bally’s Sports needs to go away
He might take less than 3 million a year, but he'd still want a signing bonus and that would count against the cap... which, if we have any hope of resigning Wilson, we can't do.

Depending on how much he costs, I would love to bring him on board and increase the competition along the offensive line. For those who really know the offensive line, any chance either Levi or Gandy could play as interior linemen?

As a Bengal fan...I can tell you I'm disappointed they let him go. I hope he can hook up with the Cards--you would be getting a helluva tackle IMO.

My peeps don't think it is that big of a deal he's gone. They think his past injuries (and "attitude", which I can't figure out that one) have sapped him of his immense talent. All I know is...when right...he is easily in the top-10 left tackles in the game.

His main issues now...are what we have heard to be degeneration of his knees, the extent is unclear. Levi has said he's good to go...so he should know best.

If you can't tell already, I'm a big Levi fan.

Hello and Welcome!

We appreciate the insight. Biases are fine, as long as they're recognized! :D

Gandy is a better guard than tackle.

All this talk about moving Gandy inside, haven't his best years in the NFL been the past 2 playing OT?

Agreed, and this is coming from the biggest opponent in signing him in the first place and saying he would be nithing but a OG and only an everage one at that.

Gandy stays at and finishes his contract at LT for us without a doubt in my mind.
