Takes one QB off of the board for teams (though not unexpected).

Not sure of any great impact to the Cards but it is a domino that won't drop in the QB queue.

I thought at a certain point of the season you couldn't resign a player to a new deal

I am pretty sure clud have exclusive negotiation rights with their own players until the new league year begins. That is why we re-signed a handful of players just prior to it last year.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, the Arizona Cardinals have re-signed safety Rashad Johnson to a three-year contract.

The Cardinals will now likely attempt to re-sign Greg Toler before he hits the free agent market, where he is expected to have many suitors. If and when that happens, the secondary will still need some more depth, but will be on better standings than it was just a few hours ago.

The team isn't signing a QB in free agency with Palmer, Stanton, and Lindley on the payroll. If (when) a new QB comes along, it'll be in the draft.

I wonder why a 7 year deal. For Jay Cutler, I automatically assumed he'd pick 6.

5/5.

A long-term deal like this (and Larry's and Megatron's and--I'd guess--Peterson's) allows teams to provide a second guaranteed payment in Year 2 or Year 3 that then spreads the cap penalties further down the road. I imagine that's the motivation.

I bet even Jay Cutler is in a good mood today. Dont they have a bunch

of free Agents? I wonder who they may lose now?

LOL! Who are da Bears going to draft or acquire in free agency that is better than Cutler? They didn't have much choice IMO.

They probably paid the going rate and are hoping Marc Trestman can reduce the turnovers. In a weak NFC North, you still have to have a decent quarterback with the potential to put up points with two good receivers to compete with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. Jay Cutler was their best option IMO. Josh McCown is not the long-term answer and where they are picking the best draftable quarterbacks will be long-gone.

Josh McCown would make an excellent backup QB based on his starts this year. He has come a long way since with the Cards. He may even make a starter for some teams. Glad to see him doing so well.

I guess it is a case of pick your poison, but personally I truthfully would prefer Palmer as my starter over Cutler all day but that is me. What wreck of a façade that draft was...Cutler, Young and Leinart lol

Cutler has played for many years and started most of the time and just signed another 7 year deal so I wouldnt really lump him in with those other two.

I do because it is about getting into the playoffs, winning and getting to the Super Bowl...all three of those QBs seem to make those chances slim, though Cutler does provide better hope but false hope in my opinion. Sort of like a Tony Romo with an elite arm. Not bad but not the answer probably :)

Hasn't Cutler already been to the playoffs 2-3 times? Like, more times than Carson Palmer has in a much shorter career?

It's okay not to like the kid--a ton of people don't--but he's a QUALITY starting NFL quarterback, and already the best quarterback in Chicago history.

What Cutler needs is an offensive line that could help protect him. That is what he really lacks. Great QB the Bears have had in a long time.

That's one of the things I'd like to write about as the offseason progresses: the Bears completely remade their offensive line in one season. This year, they allowed the 4th-fewest sacks in the NFL, after being one of the worst OL in the NFL last year.

Really amazing turnaround.

no. he made it there one time in 2010. otherwise he's usually gotten hurt, missed big chunks of time, been mediocre or been part of end of season collapses with Denver when they were 8-4 and finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs or the Bears this season.
