Cards only have 4 defensive ends: Berry, Zellner, Pace, and Vanden Bosch. King is on injured reserve and D. Johnson is cut. Also, is Wakefield out for the season?

Wakefield is out for the season. But add Dockett to the DE list also. He will share time there which will help the other four.

I believe the "surprise cut" is still yet to come... I bet more than anything that Graves & Green are currently sifting through cuts that other teams made and will add and subtract between now and next Sunday....None of this is all etched in stone....

You guys don't think there were any shockers? I do.

1. We kept 1 FB and 4 RBs
2. Dexter Jackson on IR
3. Newhouse over Kasper.
4. Michael Stone made the team over Adrian Mayes.

This means many things:

1. We are staying with the 3 WR and 2 TE alignments as our offense
2. Maybe, just maybe, Troy Hambrick will play some FB
3. Or, TE Lorenzo Diamond can play some FB, as he did in college.
4. I think Newhouse was kept to back up Bryant Johnson at the Z WR because he has decent speed. Kevin Kasper had neither size, nor speed, so Denny went with the taller and faster Newhouse.
(Dump those quotes about Kasper's supposed 4.4 speed. He played slow and small. Played well, mind you, but the better player beat him out.)
5. Denny cut his only draft mistake - Antonio Smith

I'm thrilled Wendell Bryant and LJ Shelton were kept. Both of them went through hell but earned their roster spots by keeping their mouths shut and working hard.

Whether additional cuts are "surprises" or not, rest assured they'll come. Green's got a short list of players around the league, identified as likely/ possible cuts, that he thinks can help this team. And the Cardinals, as we're all aware, are in the driver's seat on waiver pickups.

The other shoe hasn't dropped yet.

seems like NFLE has its plus points then!?! - unless he stinks this year

Good point English. Reggie Newhouse worked hard in Europe, improved, and showed it here.

Welcome to ASFN, by the way.

I stated last week that Kasper and Poole were battling to be Fitz's backup. Denny has a specific role for each of his WR's. Poole and Kasper were auditioning for the same role. I think Poole fits the role better.

Newhouse earned himself a roster spot. However he may be one of the first cuts if Denny thinks a better WR is available on the Waiver wire.

True... but this might explain why there is an excess at certain positions..along with lack of depth at others..... Therefore, Graves/Green will sort all of that out in due time......

There may very well be a few "need" players cut that even shocked Graves/Green, so they'll cut at the position that's already of "strength" to eliminate those glaring "weaknesses"....

so the insiders (urbane and jurecki) were right about Kasper..they said poole was ahead of him and it was between kasper and newhouse - and kasper appeared to be the odd guy out (or that is how I interpreted their comments).

I thought Leckey played poorly and wragge would beat him out...

Skorp:: so the speed man survives...Michael Stone. I thought he played with some heart against the broncos...he seemed intent on knocking someone out....Mayes can go to the practice squad.

In all honesty....this could be way off base - but looking at the list - I think someone may take a flyer on Kasper...maybe...I doubt if any of the other guys on todays Cardinals cut list will be put on another teams 53 man roster....Keep in mind the old coaching staff did not like Kasper (or so we were led to believe)..so it is not like sullivan, etc. will be picking him up..

I am surprised as well. I loved Mayes on ST and I am not sold on Stone. Hopefully Mayes will make the PS.

Ironic. I posted this way back on July 14th of last year:

The long-shot WR I'm pulling for--besides Kevin Kasper, who contributed last year under difficult circumstances--is Reggie Newhouse. Productive, high-character, coachable college player who might make a good NFL special-teamer.
Funny how, over a year later, one stays and one goes. Life in the NFL.

I'm really hoping there are more cuts especially Klighgewqq defensive tackle and Lindsay. I think we can do better than both of those guys. Really dissapointed with Johnson. I thought he was our best DE last year during the regular season and I thought he had room to develop... oh well...he can't make the practice squad right? Especially how Mayes makes the team... think he could be a keeper in the future. Wish we hadn't wasted our pick on Antonio Smith never looked like he would make the team to me unless Green had a big ego, thought there were other guys we could have picked... At least it shows me that Green is above trying to hide his mistakes and might not hold on to his guys too long. Although I think kiglewwddg and Lindsay are his two guys right now, don't know why they should make the team...

Pinnacle:

Stranger things have happened. When the Broncos cut him, both the Seahawks and Patriots put in claims, and when the Seahawks let him go, the Cards promptly snapped him up.

Kasper's healthy, and got a reasonable number of reps during the preseason (in which, as many here noted, he made some plays). We'll see if anyone else around the league noticed.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Chicago pick him up. Just a hunch.

wildcard: I think someone might pick him up (kasper)..in part because he has had some success (mostly with the broncos) on special teams...I guess my point was: I do not see much hope for the other guys we let go - in terms of making another team - but their are always surprised...

I thought he played well against the Raiders......wonder if they would be interested?

For the record....Gilmore appears to have made the dolphins roster...I would rather have Kasper over Gilmore - but they are different types of receivers..

Has Darnell gone back to DT for sure? I sure hope so.

Croom lands a spot on the roster!

I didn't think there would be enough room to keep Larry Croom.

Congrats on making the team. You earned it!

Dexter Jackson to IR hurts very bad.

It does hurt, but you knew something was up when he didn't see any time on the field at training camp.

My guess is that 4-5 players from the 53 man roster (including Linsay et al) are gone, if the right player is being cut elsewhere. C Fontenot, G Travis Claridge and DE Upshaw are options...

Makes sense. With Jerry Azumah out (for the season?), they could use a veteran kick returner. It wouldn't be the first time that Kasper got hired primarily as a return specialist. I think the Bears' only other options at KR were rookies Nathan Vasher and Bernard Berrian, assuming that both made the roster.

I agree. Denny seems to have a weird love for Ross K. I dont know what it is, I know the guy is a hard worker but its plain to see he isnt that good.
