I figured we might as well have a thread to announce the cuts that could be of significance to us, namely RB's & DB's that get set free today.

Here are a couple...

Terence McGee, CB, Bills
5-9 208, 30 yrs old, played 9 games last year

Pat Lee, CB, Packers
6-0 196, 27 yrs old, played 11 games last year
zero career INTs

Are either of them better than what we have for depth?

The defensive players on that list could be viable options since it was just last year that Horton was coaching there. Not guys the Steelers picked up this offseason, but it'll be interesting to see if we nab one or two of those guys who've been there a couple seasons.

Yeah, I'm not very familiar with any of those guys but if there was someone from that list that Horton wanted, I'd be all for it.

Mario Harvey instantly jumps out at me.

The rest are meh.

Where is he going to play? Is he going to unseat Washington, Bradley, Lenon, or Sturdivant? Maybe the last, but we'd have to give up a roster spot to find out.

That plus it is a little odd that they didn't allow him to even play until the last preseason game. Didn't even get on the field the first two preseason games and was only allowed to play special teams in the 3rd preseason game.

Looks like one of those guys with un-worldy talent but just cant get down an NFL defense. MIGHT be a good practice squad guy if he passes through waivers and he declines a Pitt PS invitation.

Well I am sure everyone will bring this name up again,

Chester Taylor officially released per rotoworld.

Still don't think he is a good option, ever since he turned 30 he has nothing in the tank, was horrid last year, and was equally as horrid this preseason. Maybe it was the OL he had to work with but he just didn't look like he had any kind of speed or burst to work with the last time I saw him play.

Also LB Prescott Burgess of the Ravens was released. He never really got his chance to play in the Ravens base D during the season, but he has the right size, speed combo and is one of the better special teamers in the NFL. Would at least take a gander at him.

Good stuff, Joe. I still think Brian Westbrook would be the right all-purpose RB fit. I like Tyrell Sutton (just released by Carolina) in some similar ways. Prescott Burgess---if he were a little faster would be a keeper on every roster. He would be a very nice addition. The pass rusher I am hoping for is Philip Hunt---(Eagles)---if he's the odd man out in their crowded OLB/DE unit. And keep an eye on S Brandon Meriweather (Patriots)---he could be had in a trade according to Boston beat writers.

Gabe Watson. I don't know if we want him back, but eh.

Watson just never figured out how to play 3-4 NT. Watch Big Dan. If he starts to get moved out, instead of continuing to struggle backwards, he falls to the ground and and clogs up the middle.

Even though this is taught to interior defensive linemen at the most basic levels of tackle football most guys just never get it. Watson was one of those guys.

Brian Westbrook intrigues me, but I think the question is if he wants to play at this point. Have not heard his name much at all, so it seems he may be done.

I dunno DJ

Watson played pretty well his second year. Docket credited Gabe for his help in freeing him up. It seemed that freak fractured knee cap was a more serious injury than thought, because Watson has never been the same after that.

The Cards didn't really switch to the 3-4 until 2008.

They ran a 4-3 in 2007 with some 3-4 looks. CKW has been quoted saying they wanted to switch in 2007 but didn't have the personnel.

Gabe knew how to play DT in a 4-3.

Titans cut Jacob Ford, DE, possibly 3-4 OLB, 6-3, 255 lbs.

Anyone know what happened to this guy? Showed such a promising rookie season, then faltered the last two seasons. Just a product of having Haynesworth and KVB having some of their best seasons?

His sack totals have dropped off but I believe he would be worth looking at.

The Titans love Jason Jones and kept Dave Ball as the veteran back up.

Loved Olshansky when he was drafted.

I'm also intrigued by Westbrook (because of his veteran experience in the passing game). And didn't he have a year or so on the Eagles with Kolb?

Would I rather have Gabe than, say, Talley? Yes, for 2 reasons. More bulk in the middle - even as a backup. Knows the players and the system.

I didn't like this guy going into the draft, he almost went undrafted, and has now been cut by the Bronco's.

But I know a lot of other people on the board liked him and thought he would go 2nd or 3rd round.

Jeremy Beal was cut.
