Nice summary. Other than your appreciation for Burke, I'm on board with the rest of it. 7:10 tonight. Just find a way to win.

Agree about Burke, he should be waived when Upton comes back. He just has not performed like we all thought he would. I know we all would like to see him hit like he is capable of, but there is not much time left in the season to keep hoping.

As long as Burke didn't screw up, which he didn't last night, I can put up with him, I guess, but you all know I'm NO fan of him and still prefer that he play elsewhere. :|

Desertrodent, you referred to it slightly, in passing, but didn't you think Joe Torre got smoked and might have cost his team the win by not anticipating at all Melvin's move to pinch hit Tracy?

That sent back-to-back left handers to the plate, in a 1-1 game in the 7th inning. Torre didn't have a left hander ready and was slow to even get one up to loosen up. Granted, Tracy and Drew were hitting lefties fairly well.

Still, Torre seemed to suffer mental paralysis. I'd think, in such a tight game, in so critical a series, he'd be proactive. Even Melvin had guys up and ready, for a change.

I'm such a newcomer to baseball, I feel a little silly criticizing Torre. Just wondering what others think who have been baseball fans longer than me.

I believe it's an adjustment for an American (no strategy) League manager to come (back) to the National League.

Joe Torre is a good person -- I never thought he belonged with Steinbrenner. And as a former NL catcher (who also played 3B), he has great credentials to manage a pitching staff and team in the NL.

But then, Bob Brenly had the same credentials, and ultimately couldn't cut it.

It will be interesting to see if Torre is going through a-checkup-from-the-neckup in the NL . . . or if his best managerial days have passed him by.

He's withdrawn, like Melvin, and seems to be managing the same mediocre way. No set lineup. Many players not sure of their roles. Not getting results from their weak hitting (but should be doing much better) Center Fielders, etc.

Nice job giving the Dodgers an extra run! That bunt was clearly foul.

Three straight games we only manage two runs against the Dodgers?? Come on guys, give our pitchers a break!

We're going to lose some games, as much as we'd rather not... ;)

We had our opportunities, but simply didn't cash in.

Tomorrow, I think we need to get to Johnson early, or it's not going to be a pretty day. Let's hope DD is on and has his best stuff.

Torre is not perfect and at the ripe old age of 68, maybe he's slipping. All managers make mistakes. Perhaps he was not even aware that Drew and Tracy have been hitting lefthanders so well, so he played the percentages. Maybe all the Manny hype clouded his judgement. Who knows. The D-backs won, so :D

We have a lot of catching up to do here...

Good thing we have the Pirates next with our top 3 pitchers if we don't make a comeback. :-/

We really needed DD to step up today.... Unfortunately, we got the REAL DD.

Let's see if the offense can keep us in it (although after watching Reynolds take strike three x2 off this turkey, I have my doubts..... )

C'mon back, Wally Scherzer . . . to the starting rotation.

Today:
#1 - Great
#2 - Great
#3 - Former great -- currently doing well
#4 - Mediocre
#5 - Mediocre

Soon:
#1 - Great
#2 - Great
#3 - Former great -- currently doing well
#4 - Good start -- great potential
#5 - Mediocre

If Bob Melvin will just put Scherzer back into the starting rotation when he returns, AND LEAVE HIM THERE, we'll see the difference between .500 and a Division Championship.

WOW! It's the bottom of the 4th, the Dodgers are leading 5-2 and, as the inning ended, Mark Grace just said, on the air, "Thanks for coming, folks. We're outta here." On the air.

Has he's been embibing his "adult beverages" again? Maybe management will put a written warning into his Personnel file and begin the trail of "Don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out, Mark."

Another homerun for Manny. Unbelievable.
I sadly said to my wife as Manny led off the bottom of the 5th, "There's a long drive to left . . . and it's gone."

Two pitches later, it was.

It is sad that both the D'backs and Dodgers desperately needed a legitimate cleanup hitter, to bring respectability to the rest of the batting order. The Dodgers did it and we did not.

Then Blake, their other acquisition, put runners on 2nd and 3rd.

I believe that was a joke since they started the end-of-inning music when there was only 2 outs....

This trade is killing us already. Good thing we have a favorable schedule the rest of the month.

Before the All-star Break, Salazar was designated for assignment. He cleared waivers and was placed on Tucson's roster.

Pitiful end to a pretty damned good road trip..... Still sitting on top the west, albeit by one game....

Ok.... we got the weak-arsed Pirates at home for the next 3, with Haren, Webb and Johnson doing the pitching. We best be sweeping this set.

Came into the road trip a game up, left a game up. Sucks that all of that effort and little to show for it.
