Diamondbacks are falling apart. This is a must game because the odds are not in their favor tomorrow.

Dunn slips, Upton drops a ball, and Drew misses one hit right at him. At least two extra outs this inning right there.

Fire Melvin now! What a stupid move in pinch hitting Snyder with Montero. Montero is 0-5 against Broxton and Snyder has two hits today, including a homer.

awww great what a horrible series vs the dodgers well atleast we are done playing them but man with the pitchers we threw out we should have got one win :(, well maybe we can beat other teams and whoever plays the dodgers can help out a bit. But hey atleast the cardinals won today :)

Agreed - couldn't believe that.

Melvin is such an idiot!!! Having Snyder squeeze when Chris has been hitting very well of late with runners in scoring position. This is just another example of why he should not be the manager!
A surprise suicide squeeze is a great call . . . if the right player is up at the plate.

Chris Snyder is not the right player for a suicide squeeze.

Bob Melvin uses so little strategy, he's not going to be a match for his opposing Manager when he tries to.

Eight men left on today so far, five of which were in scoring position. Very frustrating that they have yet to get that big hit in this game.

Diamondbacks go from losing one series over the span of an entire month to losing three out of four. Needless to say, the team isn't going anywhere if Haren and Webb continue to pitch like they have in their last handful of starts.

Just prepare to hear the usual drivel when the D-backs screw up, especially when it is to an established media darling team like the Dodgers. The D-backs didn't show up until the waning innings of Saturday's game. Disasters like this are not acceptable. They COULD turn it back around, but do ya really see the Dodgers goofing up and letting go of the lead now?

Yep, and for those keeping score, that was the second time this year Melvin has called for it. Both times with Snyder at the plate, both with the same result. Absolute lunacy.

What is amazing is they were pitching around Snyder in that situation, so that makes it even more unbelievable. Is Melvin watching the same game we are?

No I don't, but I also didn't expect them to lose eight in a row either. The Dodgers have shown that they are capable of it. The season is not over, but the D-Backs have to regain at least a game over the Dodgers in this next series because then it gets tough. If not, the young guys learn from it and use it for motivation next season when hopefully we learn that this was just a sophomore slump for some of these guys and Young, Reynolds and co. are not really -.240 batters.

That first inning killed us.
Is it a surprise that Scherzer took an inning to adjust (only one inning) to his first Major League start since May?

Evidently it was to Melvin.

Max pitched a whale of a game until he ran out of gas after 90+ pitches. He even had the lead, until one of the two runners he had on base scored after he left.

Leaving him in the rotation early in the season would have been a smart move. With eleven strikeouts in his first five innings today, that's obvious.

Expecting him to be better than Webb and Haren as a stopper during the stretch run, without leading up to it, is insanity.

But I'm glad that Melvin started him today. The mishandling of Max Scherzer is another nail in the managerial coffin on our 2nd place team.

Eight losses in the past eleven games. Humbug.

The next ten games will tell us everything. The Dodgers now embark on a 10-game road trip and the Diamondbacks will play 3 in San Francisco and then 7 straight at home.

Beating Lincecum tomorrow would do wonders for the team's morale.

On Scherzer... does it really wear your arm out more to pitch around 20 or less innings in a month on short notice over pitching around 40 innings per month as a starter?

And what was the concern for him and his pitching motion? I don't remember any details on that so remind me about that. Would he really be able to take on the work load that the average starter gets over his whole career? I'm thinking since he has one great pitch and two average ones, he's be better as a future closer.

“It wasn’t about starting or relieving, it was how the strength was,” Scherzer said. “That’s what caused some inflammation up in my shoulder. I had to improve the strength in the shoulder to prevent it.”

I still believe that if you bring up a young Minor League pitcher, you play him in the role that got him there . . . and that he is accustomed to.

If you want him to take on a different role, let him get used to it in the Minors, not when he hits the Majors.

Doesn't that make sense?

If you bring up a starter, use him as a starter. If you need a bullpen guy, bring up a bullpen guy. Especially in these times of pitching specialists -- long relief, 7th inning, 8th inning, 9th inning, etc.
