Good analysis, Eric. That must have taken some time.

Thanks -- I can't program, so I need to find excuses to build up some Excel skills.

As I haven't watched the lottery drawing in some time, do they still announce the teams in reverse order, from 14 to 1? Or do they just reveal the whole thing at once since it isn't being drawn live?

Last year, they revealed from 14 to 4, then took a commercial break before getting to the top 3. I think it's been that way for a while, but I don't know what they are doing this year.

If you're a feast-or-famine type, you want to see teams move up. That increases the Suns' chances for #4, but also increases their chances for #1 if they survive #4. This is because it will have been relatively easier for a longshot team to move up to #2 or #3 if the Suns, as the biggest hitter, got #1 and took themselves out of the running. It's less likely that a longshot team beats out the Suns for #1 and then the Suns recover for #2.

If you're a minimize-the-damage type, you want to see no movement, even if that means there's less to be excited about should the Suns clear the #4 hurdle.

If you have to tank to get a good pick. And you end up #4 anyway. This is a good draft for that to happen. Lots of value will be there at #4.

The absolute worst thing that can happen today is what I just rolled on tankathon.

1. Philly (Laker pick)
2. Grizz
3. Kings
4. Suns

Boston picking 2 or 3 would be a close 2nd worst. This is my exercise in reverse psychology. Sorry for that to all you believers in sending out good vibes.
Interesting. Who would philly pick at 1?

Ironically this seems to be a bad draft at the top for phillys needs. I see them as needing a high level shooting athletic wing. Tough to squeeze another big in with Embiid saric Simmons Covington. Actually I think they need a speed guy. Ironically I think Sexton is the best fit with young second and maybe Mikal Bridges in there somewhere. But none of those guys should go one.

Philly should 100% trade that pick for Kawhi is possible. Doncic is the only natural fit, and Kawhi makes much more sense considering what the Celtics and Warriors look like.

Sugss wanted to be a card too, which makes it even more insane. Boldin came after, but imagine if it was Suggs and Boldin that draft!

I think we (Cards fans) all imagine that. And it was such an easy call too. Suggs was just what we needed and he wanted to be here, match made in heaven. And we could have taken Anquan with our own 2nd rounder.

But the Sixers have the advantage of winning now AND being able to look to the future for a decade long run.

Why not take Doncic if he really is a Unicorn and add another low salary contract enabling them to keep the majority of their team together, especially if there are any injury concerns with Leonard?

Kawhi is 27. Hes entering his prime and the 76ers are ready to win. I think Kawhi makes much more sense, as he fits in with their size, athleticism, and two-way lineups. You put Kawhi and Covington out there on the wing, and Simmons defensive responsibilities start to take a back seat so he can run the offense.

Doncic makes sense, and I think he fits, but hes not a unicorn. Thats a guy like Jackson Jr. if his jumper plays, Ayton if his defense improves, Bamba if he develops a jumper. 76ers already have that guy in Embiid, who is arguably the best defender in the league, but still needs to improve his jumper.

This is all assuming they can actually make a play for Kawhi. They could also just draft Doncic, sign George, and they are in a similar situation.

Maybe I am jaded but I am just not going to be floored if we end up #4. Just not. That's the Suns luck in a nutshell. We have the best chance at getting #1 but I just can't wrap my head around the Suns actually landing #1.

I don’t think a single rational suns fan believes we will get #1

Because Kahwi is a guaranteed real thing and they need a vet presence.

Guaranteed thing... with a mysterious injury problem that will require a massive contract that will keep them from building an all around squad... and gives them a 3-5 year...

Eh... why am I even arguing this this much? They can’t really lose in either situation!

Yes we do. We have a 25% chance of landing number one which is better than any other team in the draft. Unfortunately the field has a 75% chance.

Nearly everyone on that roster the 76ers either drafted, have already locked into a long-term deal, will own RFA rights on, or have bird rights on. They can keep everyone, supplement the roster with their draft picks (which they own outright), and using salary exceptions to add pieces.

Of course assuming that Joshua Harris is willing to pay a massive luxury tax bill in the coming years.

I only ran tankathon once this morning, no one moved, so the Suns with #1, Grizzlies with #2, Dallas at #3, and Atlanta at #4. If the Suns don't get called at #4 or #3 I think everyone will assume we have #2 so there won't be much suspense watching the broadcast when they try to hype who gets #1.

We're not picking first that's for sure. So will we pick Bagley, Bamba, or Young, at 3-4?

True but if you look at any of the other teams on the list and then compare the field against them? The field getting that pick is even greater.

I am just talking about good old stupid Suns luck.
