They were not wearing them. You won't be ejected from a vehicle if you have a seat belt on.

What's really hard to believe is some people think it's dangerous to wear seat belts. They usually use some story about a guy who couldn't get out of a burning vehicle to back them up. But, way more deaths happen from being ejected from the vehicle.

I knew a person that was nearly cut in half by a seat belt. They're one of those safety devices that can usually help in an accident, but every once in a while become a hazard. Like a lot of safety devices, really.

I don't want to entertain this seatbelt thing for very long because it will detract from my concern for DA but dammit I am tired of having my civil liberties stripped away daily and then a public that wants to play mommy and daddy. C'mon, if I came into your home and toured it for safety concerns most people would have problems that are equivalent to not wearing your seatbelt. Get off their backs and show a LITTLE COMPASSION. Get well DA and your two bros. I have two brothers and I'll be dammed at how it would feel if we went through this. Much love and God Bless.

You are right. Does anyone know of his and his brother's injuries?

JFK- don't take me the wrong way. I am the son of a lawyer and have a degree in philosophy. I just love debate but in this situation I really am trying to turn that side of my personality off. Take care bro and fellow Cards fan.

The story in the local paper this morning said the Bidwills did not announce his injuries yesterday due to privacy laws.

Crash severely injures Card
By Dennis Welch and Darren Urban
Tribune
Arizona Cardinals running back Damien Anderson could face drunken-driving and assault charges after a onevehicle crash early Saturday in Chandler left him and two of his brothers in serious condition, officials said.

Anderson and his brothers, Dedric and Billy, were all rushed to Valley hospitals, said Arizona Department of Public Safety officer Frank Valenzuela.

Damien Anderson lost control of a 2004 Ford Explorer on eastbound Interstate-10 near Ray Road around 2:30 a.m., officials said. The SUV flipped and threw Damien and Billy Anderson from the vehicle. The Explorer landed upsidedown, trapping Billy Anderson’s legs underneath, Valenzuela said.

Damien Anderson was taken to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix where he had surgery. His brothers were taken to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. Their injuries also required surgery.

Cardinals vice president Michael Bidwill said the team could not release details about the crash without family permission, which the team was trying to acquire Saturday night.

About an hour before the crash, DPS officers were looking for a vehicle that matched the description of the SUV driven by Anderson, Valenzuela said. Someone had reported that the vehicle was being driven erratically.

DPS officials impounded the vehicle until they could obtain a search warrant, Valenzuela said.

Investigators will try to determine whether Anderson was drunk at the time of the crash, Valenzuela said.

Anderson was an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern who signed with the Cardinals in 2002. He is the team’s third-string running back behind Marcel Shipp and Emmitt Smith as well as a key special teams player. He had 68 yards rushing and six receptions for 36 yards in 2003 for the Cardinals, who completed their season Dec. 28.

Anderson had signed a contract extension in early November. The deal, which runs through the 2006 season, paid him a signing bonus of around $620,000.

Somtimes it takes something terrible like this to bring a perspective bake to us all. Some of my post sound trival after reading this. My prayers go out to this young man and his family and of course his brothers.

Anderson legal update.....

Cards RB might face charges

Anderson, brothers injured in rollover

The Arizona Republic
Jan. 5, 2004 12:00 AM

Cardinals running back Damien Anderson could face charges for his role in a rollover accident early Saturday morning that sent him and two of his brothers to local hospitals.

"There's reason to believe that they (officers) may suspect possible impairment," said Frank Valenzuela, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Officers seized Anderson's vehicle, a 2004 Ford Expedition. Valenzuela said the seizure is standard procedure.

"We do that all the time, any time there's a possibility of filing charges," he said.

Valenzuela said he is unsure whether officers requested a sample of Anderson's blood to test for alcohol content.

Anderson's family declined to release specific information about his injuries, said Paul Jensen, a Cardinals spokesman. Anderson and his brothers were in serious condition Saturday, according to the most recent available information.

Authorities said Damien, 24, was driving eastbound on Interstate 10 about 2:30 a.m. Saturday and lost control while exiting onto Ray Road. The vehicle went off the right side of the offramp, rolled down an embankment and landed on its top.

Anderson, a second-year player from Northwestern, was the team's third running back for much of the season. He gained 68 yards on 18 carries this season.

My prayers are with DA and his brothers and family, I sincerely hope he was not DWI....there is no more stupid or selfish act than that....but again first hopes and wishes are for a speedy and fully healthy recovery.
