Fitz NEVER talked about how he couldn't wait to be a F.A., and how is "is going to make a SPLASH in Free Agency"

Fitz never held out over and over again (remember it was the Cardianls that needed to redo his deal NOT resign him)

Dansby has no intention of resigning with the Cards and only signed the Tag this year so he is guaruenteed to be a F.A. in 2010...

I kind of hope he hasan absolute PISS POOR year and gets crap, and has to come back to the Cards with his tail between his legs and beg for the deal we are offering now...

I mean WE WERE OFFEREING 22 MILLION GUARENTEED... FOR A ILB!!!!

If that isn't good enough screw him, he obviously wants Albert Haynesworth Money, and somehow he believes the Cowboys or Redskins are going to pay him that next year, which IMO is a little far retched...

I am just sick about the whole situation

So? That didn't stop posters from saying we didn't need Fitzgerald or that the Cards should trade him. Or that he wasn't really that good. Or that he was a bum for keeping the Cards from being more active in free agency.

Its amazing how indignant people get when a player talks about free agency and making big money. Even to the point of hoping a player has a terrible season or should leave. Things that would affect the entire team and lessen its chances of a repeat trip to the playoffs.

As long as the guy performs on the field I could care less what he says or does off it as long its not something unlawful.

Of course...at that point you decide where you want to pay max money, and where you think you can get by with a less expensive option. Kurt Warner and Fitz cannot be replaced, Dansby can be adequately substituted, or so at least the FO believes...

After years of watching Ron McKinnon, Ray Thompson and Rob Fredrickson get steam rolled to the extent I called them "Driftwood" I'd hope our front office has learned better.

You have to be very fortunate to find a replacement for a player right away. Normally it takes years. At least it has for the Cards.

What was he supposed to show you? He gets paid to make tackles and force turnovers not meet our expectations of character. Dansby has made plays every year he's been in Arizona. Anyone who claims he's only played in his 2 contract years hasn't been watching the games or reading the box scores.

Thankfully the Cards unloaded all those character guys that gave us that remarkable 2003 season.
Yeah, but your missing the point, and 2003 has absolutely nothing to do with this year.

Dansby is a good player. He is not a great player, he is not a bad player. He has no Pro Bowls. He takes plays off, he HAS NOT been a leader, he IS NOT a leader.

I don't want to break the bank for whatever pie in the sky deal he wants, at the expense of the rest of the Team.

I think he's replaceable by a couple mid-round draft picks, just like he was. I'm not going to pay him top performer money like Fitz or Warner.

If I'm the front office, I say come to the table like you want to be here, or take your free agent walk. This is not an emotional decision, it's just state your priorities.

If Dansby want's to stay with a winner at a reasonable price, great. If he want's to go for the max payday, that's fine too. But I think it would be a bad decision for the Cards to be top bidder.

He takes plays off? When? Didn't he lead the team in tackles? Didn't he bail us out in the near SF Monday night debacle?

Not a leader? I think the players would disagree, they did vote him defensive captain.

I would take 2 more Karlos Dansby's at LB'er on my roster anyday.

and by the way he was drafted in the 2nd.

Show me. I heard we were offering 12M guaranteed. I think you're way off here. He'd sign for 22M.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/2009/04/07/20090407spt-cardsdansby.html

Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby doesn't expect his decision to change agents to hinder negotiations for a multiyear contract, and he denied reports that his former agent was close to reaching an agreement with the team.
"Not close, not even close," Dansby said. "That's why I felt there was a need for a change in order to get me a solid deal done that I'm comfortable with, that my family is comfortable with."
Even with a new agent, Dansby is not optimistic a deal can be reached before the start of training camp.

"I'm not sure it's able to get done," he said.
Dansby sounded as if he was looking forward to playing under the one-year franchise label, which guarantees him $9.7 million in salary in 2009 and would make him an unrestricted free agent in 2010.
Under the current collective bargaining agreement, there will be no salary cap in 2010.
"It's an uncapped year next year and I'm mentioned among the better linebackers in the league as far as the guys who are going to be up next year also," Dansby said. "So why not show what I've got? I'm up for the challenge. Make a splash, man."
With no salary cap, there would be no limits on what a team could spend on players. There are risks, however, for players.
In an uncapped year, teams could spend as little as they wanted, too. Each team would be allowed to place a franchise or transition tag on two players, instead of just one, and the Cardinals could retain right of first refusal on Dansby by using one of those tags.
The final eight teams in the playoffs would face additional restrictions in signing free agents.
Dansby fired his agent, Kirk Wood, last weekend, and has spent part of the past few days interviewing agents, he said. Dansby denied that he already had decided to hire Eugene Parker as his new agent.
"He's a great agent and he's done a lot of good things in this league," Dansby said. ""I've been talking to a lot of (players), Takeo Spikes, Calvin Pace. A lot of guys have a lot of good things to say about their agents."
Wood was in Tempe late last week negotiating a new contract with General Manager Rod Graves. According to NFL sources, the two sides had agreed to the framework of a deal that would have paid Dansby about $22 million in guarantees, including $12 million to $14 million in 2009.
Dansby, however, denied that a deal was close.
Under the franchise label, Dansby and the Cardinals have until July 15 to reach a multiyear deal. After that, Dansby cannot sign a new contract until after the 2009 season

Your right on many levels.. where I personally have a problem is a guy like Dansby turning down 22 million dollars guarenteed in this economy so he can go somewhere else next year to sign...

I OBVIOUSLY hope he does well, and wrote I hope he has a subpar year out of frustration, but the reailty is, we will be paying Dansby 10 million dollars this year to have him one more time and watch him bolt AZ the MOMENT he gets a chance...

I mean no sane indiviaual can HONESTLY BELIEVE Dansby will be a Cardinal past 2009.. not saying it is impossible, but it is the equivilant of 2/7 offsuit cracking pocket AAs.. not counting on it by any means

So yeah, he is going to get paid, but at the cost of Arizona, and that kindof sucks...

Stout, good post.binkar, good idea! can we trade Dansby's ass for a dune buggy and a side of beef?

thats more feasible than getting anything more than a 2nd... bottom line is NO ONE will trade for Dansby unless they extend him in the process.. and I am pretty sure Dansby won't extend NO MATTER WHAT...

Which is why it makes this situation even more frustrating...

The Cardinals are being held hostage by Dansby, and there really isn't anything the Cardinals can do about it.,...

If no sane individual, as you say, can honestly believe Dansby will re-sign with the Cardinals, then it follows that it is impossible for a sane individual to believe otherwise. Ergo, you are by your own definition insane... :D

You couldn't be more wrong.

And yes 2003 has everything to do with now because ignoring the moves that left us watching that miserable team will get us right back there again.

The biggest problem I have with all this is that Dansby has been wasting the team's time. All this time - when they could have been working to secure deals with Boldin, Wilson and Dockett - they've been devoting all their time with Karlos' first agent under the false impression that a deal would be imminent.

By changing agents and blowing up the deal, Dansby is, in a very real sense, holding the team hostage (They've wasted 2 months on this bogus negotiations that they could have been spending getting the other three deals done).

If the Cardinals can make Boldin, Wilson and Dockett happy (instead of waiting for Dansby's deal to get done - if it ever gets done), they should right now move Karlos to the back of the line.

If all that's left for Dansby at the end of all this is "crumbs", so be it - it was his doing.

Agree with Jeff. Dansby wants to be a free agent after this season. That is the bottom line. Work on the other contract extensions for players that want to be here and draft a replacement for Dansby to groom this season.

This part I cant agree with, not because I agree with Dansbybut because they havent been negotiating for 2 months. Last Friday was the first day of any real negotiating, It was the first day they actually exchange idea's about money, so while I dont agree with Dansby, he also has not been holding the team hostage for 2 months. Even if they were negotiating for two months prior why cant the Cards have been working on more then one deal? If the Cards and Dansby were negotating the last two months then it was the Cards holding themselves hostage because they cant work on more then one deal at a time, and for that reason alone Dansby is not or has not been holding the team hostage. It isnt Dansbys fault the team cant multitask.

I respect your posts & often agree w/ your opinions, but this is one area where we may differ. Due to the precarious nature of the cap, some deals are more difficult than others to work out. For example, if we were to negotiate a more cap friendly deal w/ Dansby, that could open up more money, & thus a different set of negotiations for the others. If Dansby refuses to deal, it limits what we may be able to do under the cap.

Dansby's deal is somewhat unique due to the tag. I deal w/ high level negotiations on a regular basis. It's rarely as easy as it seems & there are frequent considerations behind the scenes that others never see. The whole cap thing is mind boggling, even to the experts at times. Certain domino's have to be in place at times in order for them to fall in place properly. Graves has plenty of time under the deadlines to get these deals done. I know it's slow here, but how about we give him that time? I'm sure he's not just sipping pina colada's by the pool every day.

So true. There are more than a few posters, who couldn't negotiate 5 bucks off of a cheap rug in a Moroccan flea market, offering advice on how to come to multi-million dollar agreements with hosts of implications, present and future.

First I never said it would be easy or that Graves was just sipping drinks on the beach. I was replying to the idea that Dansby was holding us hostage, because his franchise tag isnt stopping us from making other deals and even if you do look at it in terms of only doing one deal at a time that isnt Dansbys fault.

Now on to the topic, So Dansby is the only possible thing we can do in terms of getting more cap space? There is over 60 other players on the team we can work with to get more cap space, Dansby is only one of them. If it was so important to get his deal done for cap purposes we wouldnt have waited to start negotiations until last Friday. Cap is not an issue for any deal we are trying to do and Graves himself said so in an article on the Main site by Urban a few weeks back. Dansby does not limit what we can do under the cap. We can extend both Wilson and Boldin even with only 1.5 mill left. Wilson is already counting 6 mill against the cap, and any extension he gets unless greatly front loaded wont cost any more then that his first year, and in fact will probably lower that cap figure. Example of this - Haynesworth Monstorus deal only counts 7 mill against the cap his first year. So again Wilson getting an extension will not cost us any more cap and in fact will most likely lower it. Same principle applies for Boldin.

Dansby is not stopping us from doing any other deals, its a fact. Graves himself said so a few weeks ago, and the numbers and history say so as well.

You're missing part of the point I was making my man. Just because we don't hear anything in the news, doesn't mean nothing is being done w/ the others. I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we aren't hearing about.

Just b/c Boldin & Dansby have decided to make their dealings public, doesn't everyone does. The number crunching that must be going on is probably beyond our ability to even comprehend. What Graves is doing right now is a very, very complicated process. The Cards rarely go through that process in the media. I applaud that. IMHO, we're not seeing jack in regards to what's going on, as it should be. Look what happens when negotiations go public.

Let's just chill until things unfold. All the speculation is just that. How many times have people looked foolish on this board when the truth about things ultimately come out? And yet some come back for more. :bang: That's not directed at you but is food for thought.

The problem with this idea is that the Cardinals insider, Urban, himself hinted that the FO was focused almost solely on Dansby. He said that, if they set Dansby aside, they'd be able to get to the others. That speaks volumes about what they aren't (or at least weren't) doing.

Why did the Cards get McCreight in here anyway, to hold Graves' hand, pat him on the back, or take up some of the Multitasking needs.. How could we find out or do any of you esteemed people know what he's here for?

First of all, almost solely isn't solely. Second, it's not like Urban is always 100% dead on. Point is, we really don't know for sure what's been going on. Personally, I think that's the way it should be.
