The third quarter in question...Spurs scored 27 to the Suns 11. I think that is kind of an offensive problem. It's not like the Spurs scored 40.
Shaq isn't the problem.
uh, Ben Wallace was a HUGE contributor on a title team and a team that got to Game 7 of the NBA Finals. He just sucks now because he's old, not as athletic which makes him a bad defender and a pathetic offender.
and I'm pretty sure Bruce Bowen has been a huge contributor on the Spurs.
Not now, but that's also because the Suns aren't "running a bit more and hoisting them up."
The Suns did a great job transitioning to a half-court set. They didn't beat the Spurs the last two times by running more and hoisting them up. They flat out beat them.
If it ain't broke (the offense) don't fix it. If it is broke (the defense) then by all means, fix away.

This is what I heard on the radio.

Ooops.
The Suns were averaging more fast breaks and running with Shaq then without him. The Suns can still run more with Shaq in the lineup. It does require Shaq to dominate from a rebounding perspective.
So D'Antoni is just saying he wants to get back to that. However, I agree that we just flat beat them out last time. We played good defense and didn't allow so many freaking layups. D'Antoni I think is the only one that doesn't get that.
They are both right and wrong.
the writing's on the wall for DA if you read what Kerr's been saying the last month. When this series is over, so is DA IMO.
End of the day, the GM is right. Even if he's wrong.
: pinkslip:
I think it's the "hoisting them up" line that would bug me. The Suns shoot less threes now with Shaq, and score more inside. It's working really well (better than I thought it would) but I think it eats 'Antoni's soul away. He wants to just let 'em fly from distance.
Huh? The coach should be responsible for in game decisions, the GM should hire the personnel including the coach. If he doesn't agree with the coach, he can always fire him, but that doesn't make what either one of them said anymore valid. They are both right and wrong.
Steel, Cheese. I was being sarcastic, I thought calling Ben Wallace an unstoppable offensive force was subtle enough.
The guy with the hiring and firing power is always the one that is "right" in the end, even if he is 100% incorrect in his viewpoint.
That was my point.
We disagree about that point. That's all.
Those in power aren't necessarily right, they're just in power.

If you want to hear something mind boggling listen to D'Antoni's interview with Dave Burns on KTAR.com. He sounds as if he's won multiple rings. He's a joke.
History is written by the winners. "Right" is written by the winners.

Can someone please explain this to me?
How come when some people on this board were saying years ago that D'Antoni was a myopic one-trick pony whose refusal to pay any attention to defense would lead to his downfall sooner rather than later, we were accused of being naysaying haters who shouldn't possibly presume to second-guess an NBA head coach? But now that it has become so obvious that even a local columnist can figure it out, everyone's congratulating themselves on their insight?
Any explanation? Please?
