I dont think anyone has said he is out of shape or forgotten how to play football, you are just magnifying comments and turning them into what you want them to have been instead of what they really were.

Being out of football shape is not being out of shape.

Being less instinctive and less ramped up as everyone isnt forgot how to play football.

But I guess if you dont create hyperbole and exaggeration, your lopsided viewpoint loses its traction.

Why are people even engaging with him at this point?

So superstars are better than elite? Just trying to get your rating system down. Elite players don't make Pro Bowls or All Pro.

#3 overall is pretty darn good. But a guy whos the 3rd best ILB in football will undoubtedly lose 100% of his ability if out of the league for 36 months and be relegated to backup and special team duties, if that.

Tell me again about how old and unathletic he is. Thats a great story. I love listening to inferior humans talk about the physical abilities of pro athletes.

What is the Top 5%, then? Or the Top 1%?
DWash was #3 on that list in 2013. A big part of his drop was the 4 game suspension. A #3 ranking puts him in the elite/superstar level (assuming you put any stock in the writer).

I'm still torn on bringing him back, but arguing that he wasn't an excellent player on the field seems ridiculous to me.

He's fine. He'd probably come in here and be the 4th best player on our current defense. But 2012 was five years ago, and he hasn't played a down of football since then. He was a heat-seeking missile in 2012, but he doesn't have the instincts to make up for eroding physical abilities, if they've eroded.

Also, if part of the drop-off in his play was a four-game suspension after a full training camp and offseason, why are people expecting him to come back as strong after a THREE YEAR suspension?

I'm not taking the Bleacher Report's 2013 ranking as gospel, either. Expecting anyone's career-best season to be their standard going forward—particularly under these conditions—is a fool's errand. He should come in and easily be better than Kevin Minter. But I think it's an open question whether he's going to be a better asset than Karlos Dansby (more experience, more physical, better instincts) or Bucannon (younger, more speed, more recent NFL experience).

Guys in the NFL talk all the time about how your physical skills erode with age, but you replace them with the benefit of experience. Washington has taken on age but hasn't gained the experience. I'm sure he's a better football player at this moment than everyone on this board, but he's on the field with 41 other elite athletes compared to the rest of the world's population.

I only acknowledge what hes proven.

Everybody else is out here talking out their butts. "31 is old. Hes too small. Hes slow. Hes not in football shape. Hes lost his instincts"

makes me nauseous.

FYI, no player on our team is in football shape. Thats what OTAs, camp, and preseason are for.

Less instinctive?....you dont lose instincts. They are instincts. Its something that cant be taught. You have it or dont. He has it. That doesnt go away.

Less ramped up? You think the guy whos been out of football and is finally back is going to be less ramped up?......If there was anybody would be possibly more ramped up than Dwash, Id like to hear who.

It's okay, you obviously struggle with the subject, I'll leave you alone.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on how good he was when he played, nobody here knows how good he is now. He could be great or he could be awful. If there's little to no risk in finding out where he is then you might as well take a shot and see if he's still got it. It shouldn't take too much time to see if he still has the speed and acceleration.

Regardless of possible diminishment of his ability, he is still a significant upgrade over Minter.

He has done many things right for this reenstatement - hear him out - not in words but in hits on the field - If we can give Badger a 4th chance - Mr Washington deserves a 3rd chance - I like Dwash as a player - let's hope he is a better man now!

Actually instincts have a flow to them and must be put in action for them to stay acute. He has not lost them but they will take a while to surface once he is back in the game. I think that effect will be minimal and he should regain those fully about mid season if he plays

me too.

hell, it's the first signs of real life in this place since probably the Seattle 6-6 disaster that all but ended last season.

That was a frustrating game.......but it was FUN AS HELL to watch. I wonder if the Seahawks will be able to get their offensive line in order or if we are just going to own the line of scrimmage like last year.

Agreed!

Actions are the only way he can convince me he has changed, and probably a lot of other people too. If the guy comes back, does all the right things, and helps the team, well then good for him.

If I hear 'football shape' again, I may puke. Some players do come into camp already in 'football shape' because preseason they had the discipline (and that is no small thing) to do all the weight work, cardio and stamina conditioning they need to be in 'football shape'. Others lolled about eating bon-bons in the off season and need a lot of work to get into 'football shape'. Let's agree to calling it 'in shape'. You are at the required level, or you aren't, there is nothing magic about coming to camp and they work your ass off until you are in better condition. If you already did that yourself, you are simply continuing your workouts.

If he is actually in shape (because he did the requisite work) they (the Cardinals organisation) can and will determine that in 1 afternoon. If he is in shape and is mentally in the right place (that may take a day of probing and M. Bidwill certainly would be no slouch at that) then I see no earthly reason to not have him try for a starting spot on the team, just like every other player does (star or not). If he can do the job, let him do the job.

And please, if I hear "he stole 10 million from the cards" again, it will be 1 time to many. That was a signing bonus. The second it was paid, it was HIS money. If he dropped dead the next minute it was his heirs money, if Calais Campbell had dropped a hundred pound weight on DWs foot the next minute and ended DWs career it was STILL his money. Anyone whining about that is the type of person that whines about someone making a big bet at the pot in Texas Hold-em when they are in the big blind. "Your trying to steal my blind ! wah wahh !" The second it is posted to the pot it is no longer your money it is the pots money. The second DW got his bonus, it was HIS money. Get over it, whiners.
