Does he make Calais Campbell expendable as a FA next year? I personally want to resign Campbell than have Carter as a starter a couple years down the line when Dockett starts suffering from old age.

So far, I love what I have seen from him. Carter is an extremely explosive player for his position and may be one of the best if he continues to improve.

HELL NO! There is no reason whatsoever that Cambell should walk! He is playing excellent and is the type of player we MUST keep.
If he does end up leaving, Graves needs fired immediatly. Losing our homegrown talent is why our team is always fighting an uphill battle to remain competitive, let alone dominant.

That said, I'm pumped about how Carter is playing. Seems like a great find.

I think you're suffering from battered wife syndrome. Good depth players don't make starters expendable, they make for a deep team. Only the Cardinals would think that because they have a kid playing well as a spot player that they should then let one of their quality starters walk.

Especially when the spot player is needed in the rotation at NT.

No I think Carter is a niche guy who works well at DT precisely because he's a bit undersized for it. He's quick and fast for a DT but not quick and fast enough for a DE.

I think in a 4-3 it'd be interesting to have a rotation that included Williams, Dockett and Carter, the problem is I don't know if Campbell is a 4-3 DE and we don't have another obvious one on the roster.

David Carter is a prefect backup NT. That is the role he should have, and hold for the Cardinals.

No. We don't have enough talent at any position for a good start to be expendable. Defensive line depth is very important to have, especially with Dockett's age and Dan Williams conditioning. If anything, we need another solid NT so Carter can roate at DE as well as NT, and we have a more stout option available in short yardage if Dan Williams is gassed.

If we resign Calais Campbell and get some younger depth across the line, I wil be very excited about the future of our defensive line and defense altogether.

No, we keep Campbell because we have nothing better. We overpay if need be to keep him. You just can't keep letting people go and replacing them year to year. It is like trying to race a car and when you have a part which is relatively new and functioning as intended, you do not replace it with a old high performance part wholesale which is shot. You pay the dealer's price and do not get fancy with a aftermarket, broken down part which comes cheaper or you will always have the car in the shop, more than the race track.

Keep CC, we'll need him when Whis gets canned and we get new staff that switches back to a 4-3.

I never said he was expendable. Just asking the question since the Cards FO will most likely be thinking of this. Calais Campbell is one of my favorite players. :)

I wrote a long response to this but clicked "submit" without copying my post.... got timed out. I hate this crap. I have to write a comment in under a minute to avoid this BS.

The long and short of it is, yes, this staff is stupid enough to let CC walk and replace him with Carter.

Treading water.

Campbell will be a hot commodity once the snail lets him "test" free agency. We've all seen it before. Campbell will hit the market, get a big offer, and then Graves will make his "supposed" last minute ditch to sign him to a "similar" contract. That way they can paint CC as greedy and the Cards did everything they could to sign him. Sorry for all quotation marks but we are talking about a "NFL GM" here.

yup... and then all the apologists will say "we tried to sign him but there's no way he was worth that ridiculous contract. besides, insert rookie undrafted FA here looks really good so far in camp and will probably be better anyway!

No CC is solid. Not great but good. Resign him.
