And Goldy's three hits were not.
Recently returning to the lineup, Trumbo hit three wicked line drives yesterday, but all three were outs. Then he hit a dribbler which drove in a run, if I remember correctly. As announcers always say, the line drives are a good sign.
You and I have a difference of opinion about this. Of course, Gibby moved Trumbo to cleanup only because a lefty was starting for the Cubs.
With our bland lineup, do you really believe that separating our only two power hitters, rather than hitting them back-to-back, is a good idea?
"Batting sixth for the Yankees, number 4, Lou Gehrig." 'Sorry, I don't buy it! Ruth and Gehrig wore numbers 3 and 4 because, in those days, numbers were assigned by where they hit in the order.
Trumbo is no Gehrig (obviously), but he's the only other power hitter we have.
But no one cares. Trumbo is a bad hitter. Pitchers are not afraid of throwing to crappy hitters. If you actually buy into "protection" being a factor then Montero is far more of a threat to hurt you if Goldy gets on base than Trumbo and his sub .300 OBP.
You're severely overrating the value of "power" compared to talent... and Trumbo isnt exactly bursting with power anyway. If you're basically terrible at everything except power then you better provide a TON of power to make up for it... and Trumbo does not.
