I think everyone needs to relax for a few minutes. This team has talented players that could make a run. It's possible but not probable. The biggest issue I have seen so far is this team shooting them selves in the foot. Owings had 5 errors through the first 10 games. And I know most of those were easy plays. Now they plug in Ahmed and he gets errors too. I can specifically remember a few plays over the last couple games where our pitchers pitched out of a jam and then we get a stupid error that totally kills the momentum.
It's the little things like allowing a pitcher to reach base and turn over the lineup when that pitcher should have been out which has happened during this streak. Last night the dodgers made an error and one of our guys tried to take 3rd and was out by a mile. It's these things that will never allow the dbacks to be competitive. For them to win they have to play sound and fundamental baseball. Honestly I expected a better disciplined team from lovullo
So after I posted about Owings having started at three positions over the past few seasons -- SS/2B/CF -- and now the starting SS and platoon RF, they put him back at 2B yesterday. A Manager's job is to make it as simple as possible for his people to succeed. Ours is doing the opposite. What an obstacle course he has set up for Owings.
Flexibility is one thing. Attention deficit on the part of the Manager from game to game is going too far. Make a freaking decision of who plays what position, both starting and off the bench, let them get used to it and stick to it.
Plus now, the D-backs curse of an incompetent closer continues. What are they going to do to resolve that?
I had hopes for the team to take a step forward under new management, but . . . here we go again.
Bob Brenly is MLB's best color announcer and I love that RJ/Schilling/Gonzo brought us a championship under him, but Brenly is the one who started the concept of 135 different batting orders during a season.
