Worth noting, we have 3 losses this season, all to the Giants, and the common thread in each of those games we had 2 errors. Wasn't the deciding factor last night, but just saying, that's gotta get cleaned up. Every error is extra pitches for your starter, extra at bats for the opponent so even if it's not a direct effect, it can change the game nevertheless...

To put in perspective we now have an MLB leading 11 errors as a team in 10 games (5 of those belong to Owings) and our DER (Defensive efficiency ratio) is 26th in the Majors... Yet we are 7-3. As we saw last night, the hitting wont always be there to bail us out so as excited as I am about this start, the Errors have GOT TO STOP. (Yes Owings, I'm looking at you when I said that)

So not to get on Owings case, because he's playing well,,, but the errors are starting to pile up. As good as he is, maybe he can start taking a little off some of those throws and not be so wild? If I were the manager that would be my feedback. Maybe dont throw as hard as you can...

That makes 4 errors at SS now, in only his 8th start at the position... While I appreciate his range, it doesn't do much good when throws are all over the place.
Are we seeing the result of moving him from SS to 2B to CF and back to SS ... and RF? What a way to treat a young player.

I blame this on management The worst part is that may result in the light hitting Nick Ahmed bumping Owings from SS. With three light-hitting Catchers and the Pitcher following Ahmed, that's a useless 1/3 of the batting order. We're not going to win that way.

Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen to Drury -- 3B to OF to 2B.

A lot depends on the player. I don't think playing different positions is as big of a deal as you make it out to be. Some players seem to be able to contribute when moving around the Infield/Outfield. Ben Zobrist is extremely valuable with his position flexibility. Same with Javy Baez.

A lot depends on the player -- yes, that is a consideration.

Our player is Owings and look at what it has done to his fielding his natural position, SS, particularly his throwing. With all due respect, citing Zobrist and Baez doesn't help our D-backs.

is it possible he wasn't that strong of a fielder to begin with? 2014, he had 11 errors in 61 games. Last year he had 8 in 70. I don't think he's ever been mistake free.

But nowhere near as bad as he has started this season. The problem is his throwing. It almost looks like Steve Sax when he played 2B for the Dodgers and had a phobia about throwing to 1B.

Owings piled up a ton of errors as a SS in the minors long before he went to the outfield.
