I thought I was watching Chris Owings. It is beyond belief that Goldy would strike out like that. He has recently been a strikeout machine.Goldy never used to chase crap pitches like that.
And they're not pitching around him much lately with Peralta being so hot.I thought I was watching Chris Owings. It is beyond belief that Goldy would strike out like that. He has recently been a strikeout machine.
I can't help but wonder if they are above Ward's and Grace's ceiling as hitting coaches.

BB kept talking about how Owings should be taught to swing at strikes and let balls go by as a rule. But he kept lunging at outside pitches. And they're not pitching around him much lately with Peralta being so hot.
Seems to me his slide coincided with all the MVP talk. He's still hitting well just not the level we're all used to seeing.BB kept talking about how Owings should be taught to swing at strikes and let balls go by as a rule. But he kept lunging at outside pitches.
And now Goldy is doing the same. I just can't understand it. Unless Goldy decided that it was his responsibility to drive in runners rather than take walks.
I'm sure it's frustrating, but he's too good to fall victim to being "the man". Especially, as you pointed out, Peralta has taken the pressure off.
Could it be that Goldy is trying too hard to compete with Peralta and Beef Wellington (who is cooling off)? Paul Goldschmidt is too intelligent to do that, especially seeing the results.
'Any ideas what might be going on in his head?
He's leading the NL in hitting. You guys are a tough room. Anyone can have a clunker series.

All hitters deal with slumps at some point during a season. Goldy is pressing for sure. But he'll snap out of it. What is concerning however is the dramatic drop-off in HR's. My guess is that it's simply a matter of him pressing and therefore being less selective, as well as being pitched around for virtually the entire season. If Peralta keeps up his pace, Goldy will be seeing much better and more hittable pitches.
True, he's awesome but his average has slipped about 40 points over the last 8 weeks and he's only hit about 3 home runs. He's leading the NL in hitting. You guys are a tough room. Anyone can have a clunker series.
Rib single!
