At this point it is still possible for the Brewers to get the number 1 slot and the Rockies and the D'backs to tie for the second. If they tie then tiebreakers will only determine who gets home field in the tie breaker game. The winner of that game would then go to Milwaukee for the 1 game wildcard series and the loser doesn't make the post season. Tiebreakers don't get you in the playoffs.

Hold on what?

What if all 3 tie?

You would have a three team mini playoffs.

The team with the best record against the other two would pick whether they are the A B or C team. Number two then picks second.

Three-Club Tie for One Wild Card Spot:
After Clubs have been assigned their A, B and C designations, Club A would host Club B. The winner of the game would then host Club C to determine the Wild Card Club.

I would love to see a tie in the second wildcard slot and then the winner of that come to play the D'backs.

That's nuts. I'm in.

Rockies 6 GB (4) Due to Colorado loss today
--------------------------------- WC Cutoff

Elimination From D'Backs Spots (Magic Number)
Brewers 7 GB. (3) Dropped 4 to 3 today with their loss
Cardinas 8 GB. (3)

Our magic number for home field is 4. That's it, 4 wins or losses by the D'Backs and Rockies. We have played 153 games, with 9 to go and a 6 game lead. The math is simple :)

In any case 163-88 D'back wins is 75. Then 75-71 Colorado Losses is 4. So that's the number for home field.
We are right there within grasp.

Cardinals 7.5 GB. (2)
Brewers 7.5 GB. (1)

We can clinch a spot tonight with a Cardinals loss and D'Backs win. A D'Backs win regardless would eliminate the Brewers from our spot. Will today be the day they pop a little champagne?

Cardinals are down 8-2 in the first inning to the Pirates. It's looking more like a win tonight clinches a playoff spot.

With the losses by the Rockies and the Cardinals, the magic number is 1 for both home field for the wild card and the playoffs. They clinch with a win but will need losses by the Rockies, Cardinals and Brewers to clinch with a loss.
The reason the Rockies number is the same as the others even though they are a game ahead in the loss column vs the other two is because a tie with the Rockies for the two wildcard spots would be a situation in which a tiebreaker would be used to determine who got home field.

My ideal situation of a three way tie for the second wildcard spot is still very much in play and would mean a three team playoff to determine who is coming to Arizona to face the D'backs in the wildcard game.

Cubs just went up 3-0! We could be 3 innings away from clinching now

Home field is still down to a D'back win or a Rockie loss. D'backs are already advertising the wildcard game as a home playoff game.

Arizona made a massive addition at the trade deadline, acquiring J.D. Martinez from Detroit. All he’s done since then is hit 27 homers in 56 games.

This has to be some kind of record, no?

Haha they're in the pool now. This is fun. Good for them!

Archie running around waving the Dbacks/Arizona flag is awesome. Love that guy!
