Maybe I missed your meaning then, I do that now and then. :D

Green has said repeatedly he drafts BPA period, doesn't care about need or what position a guy plays. My point was if that's true whether Henry is finalized or not, if the BPA is a RB, Green will take him if he follows his BPA mantra.

The reason I think he wants to wait is Green doesn't WANT to make that deal until he knows the guy he wants is gone. I think we could see a draft day scenario were say Benson goes and within minutes ESPN is saying FYI the Cards just traded LJ Shelton to Buffalo for Travis Henry.

The rest of my post was to point out Green really doesn't draft BPA he drafts BPA according to need. Unless you honestly believe that in many of his worst drafts he had all those crappy DL's rated ahead of good players at other positions and not that he needed DL and reached repeatedly in those years to get them.

I still say the way things are now Green will take a CB at 8 and tell ESPN "well Rolle/Rogers/Jones was the top rated player on our board so we took him."

I think he wants to make sure Brown doesn't drop to 8. Once he's gone, then i think the trade gets done. I would think Green's top 5 are Brown, Rolle, Smith,DJ,Rogers basing on who may be available at 8.

Maybe he has changed his philosophy after getting burned in the past. But since our needs are the deepest positions in the draft, its more likely the BAP will fit our need, as the deepest positions should have the best value at a given point in the draft.

I agree with you that last year's draft class was weighted towards success. But let's not underestimate the job we did in last year's draft because of that.

Now it's still too early to tell but so far it looks like we had one of the top drafts in the league. In time, we may end up having had THE top draft.

Several teams, including Miami and the 49ers, received mediocre to very poor production from their drafts last year.

I think Green deserves more credit for last year's draft than just having a loaded group of players to choose from. It wasn't a slam dunk certainty by any means.

Agreed, and that's why both Miami and SF have new coaches and front office people in place, they did poorly with what they had to work with.

It's hard to say after one draft but I think being out of coaching for 2 years really did help Green in terms of the draft. I think he got time to reflect and realize MANY of his bad picks in Minnesota occurred because he ignored his own BPA rule.

yeah I was using Benson as an example not saying he was the guy Green loves. I have no clue who Green loves.

If I'm reading the article right it sounds like Green might want other teams to think he's going to draft a running back. That way some one doesn't jump ahead of the cards to get a defensive player Denny wants.

DENNY GREEN said they run the same offense.
The irony is that we may run the same offense system as Indy, but having Peyton Manning back there turns the Colt offense into something unique & different from any other offense in the league (including ours).

Getting a first class RB for the first time in 15+ years will move the Cards a lot closer though.

Interesting Take on BPA

They asked one NFL general manager how he sets up his board and the whole issue of BPA. I liked the comment:

It said that, of course, they would select the player who might best help the team and fill a need but "they would never go against their board (i.e. reach too far) to do this."

Translated into practical terms: Say a team desperately needs a corner. When their turn comes up, they see what corners are out there. If there's one they like who looks like a solid value on their board, they'll grab him.

I think that's how Dennis and Rod would operate as well - with one huge difference: Under the same scenario, if they wanted to take the corner, but a player rated far, far higher dropped down to them, they'd take the higher-rated player.
