On paper, our lineup is stacking up to be pretty nice, and address some of the thing we lacked in our playoff run this year.

Starters
Nash
Bell
Marion
Diaw
Amare
KT (May start occasionally)

Depth Guys
KT (When he doesn't start, Could be Diaw as well)
Banks
Barbosa
Jones

Occasional PT guys
Burke
Pike
Marks

We instantly add depth with our signings and KT and Amare coming back. We now have some kind of inside presence, which will make a huge difference. I see Bell as being even a bigger factor this year with his improved offensive game. Banks and Barbosa will be able to give Nash rest and hopefully maintain or sustain our offense.

Diaw's versatility will come in handy. He can start against smaller teams at either C or PF hopefully giving Amare a missmatch. KT will probably start often as well, but we will have the ability to have some great lineups with him in there.

Substitutions will be key in making the team effective. Depending on your need you can bring in small guys and run the floor (Barbosa and Banks) or KT/Diaw for some defense.

i'ma say this right now: there is NO EXCUSE for nash being over 30 minutes this year if we stay healthy.

worst case, you put a team of banks, bell, marion, amare, and diaw, that should do damage at the same clip as lesser players with Nash, and you have defense to boot.

BoiseSuns, I like our starting five players and KT or Diaw being our backup 4/5. I think the back-up will probably be KT unless the Suns want to increase speed off the bench. However, if the Suns have one serious injury or playoff injury to one of our 4/5's, I do not want to have to play Marion at the PF position in the playoffs. I know Marion can play the PF position and I like to use him there when it's to the Suns advantage. But if Marion has to play the PF position in the playoffs due to injury, the Suns will most likely always be outsized there again.

Again, IMO, the Suns do not have sufficient depth at the 4/5 unless your counting Jones, Burke or Marks, which I'm not.

I think, as our roster stands it would be nice to have some more height, but it will create some missmatches. I agree with you about Marion not playing agsinst 4-5's in th post season. I'm really interested to see how we change lineups against different teams, and how our players can change the game.

Even without getting the big man I want I am pretty happy with our depth. It beats the 6 guys we had two years ago and the 7 1/2 last year. We are in good shape. Hopefully Amare can do well and the team can stay healthy.

Although I'm pushing for the Suns to add a 4/5 type role player, I know it may not happen. At this point in time, if the Suns added a BPA to their roster (a player that could play a little) I would be satisfied. I just wanted a little insurance (margin of error) for the Suns to get that Championship. Also there is always the possibility for a trade during the season before the trading deadline.

I will say this, if the Suns stay healthy and Amare returns to the form he played against Tim Duncan in the WCF Finals in the 04/05 season, the Suns should be in great position to win their first Championship.

Amare can be that dominant. There is no one that can handle him if he is healthy.

When is the first game? This is the part of the season where I have to turn my attention to other sports, or I lose my mind. Basically the roster is set and we have weeks before anything exciting happens. I go crazy in anticipation. Remember the summer of '94 - Barkley decides not to retire due to Danny Ainge giving him grief - we get Danny Manning... I couldn't wait for the first game. We (along with Orlando Magic) were favored to win it all. That pales in comparison to how I feel this year.... KNOCK ON WOOD... remember what happened to D. Manning... Crap, I said it out loud.

I'd start KT. Boris is perfect coming off the bench because of his versatility, he can play almost anywhere and replace whoever needs a blow first. KT gives us defense and rebounding so hopefully we can actually get stops early in the game, and KT can throw the outlet pass to start the break. Furthermore KT was brought here to play alongside Amare, we need to see how that 1-2 punch works for us.

I can't think of any team that can with the championship without two key starters. It is prohibitively expensive to carry enough depth to handle a disaster.

That being said, the Suns are deeper than any Suns team since the early 90's.

What we need now is better depth at SG for defense and at C/PF for some beef. Could we get Piertrus and Biedrin for Barbosa?

I think/hope Barbosa will improve his defense. He isnt big, but his speed and length just seem like they should lead to good D. I wish the Suns had an assistant who was like the defensive expert who could take guys like Barbs and Amare under his wing and teach them to improve their D a bit.

I agree. None the less, adding Banks is going to push Leandro to work on his defense or risk losing his minutes to him. Also, playing against Banks in practice will be a good way to learn to play against someone who can drive to basket.
