Big Tiger fan here.

DBack fans. You are getting a Tiger fan favorite. Dude is a great guy, can really hit and has a lot of power, really strong and meticulous in his approach. His D is not as bad as it is made out to be - Comerica has a really big outfield. You will be amazed at his power especially to right. Hits the crap out of lefties, can not wait to see him pound the poo out of kershaw and the other lefties you see. I hope he gets his ring. Good luck DBack fans - This tiger fan will be watching. This was little underwhelming trade for the Tigers but they had to do it, the payroll is way to high.

Heard Gambo saying this afternoon that he talked to a D'Backs official and asked is Martinez a rental and was told we'll see what happens the rest of this year. They went on to mention that if they can find a taker for Tomas that maybe they could afford to re-sign Martinez but not sure when Pollock is also up for arbitration right? Lugo may have been our #4 prospect but he's more of a utility guy, he was playing 3B this year and is listed as a SS/2B/3B. He was putting up some decent offensive numbers in AA but he along with the other SS prospects are blocked by Owings and Ahmed. I wonder if we could acquire a RP for Tomas, are there any expensive rentals out there or maybe another SP in the AL?

Love the trade and it's a very good indicator of what we might see down the road from Hazen and his team. Doesn't have a ton to work with, but was able to pull this deal together in an extremely team-friendly manner. I gotta believe he is aggressively looking to unload Tomas anyway he can... By all measures, Martinez is a guy I would love to see on this team over the next 4-5 years. But that won't happen as long as Tomas is on this team... it would likely take a minor miracle for Hazen to locate a sucker out there willing to take on Tomas and his stupid contract...

Tomas' contract would not be so bad IMO if he were in the AL. I bet he would flourish with the Red Sox playing at Fenway. David Ortiz wasn't really known prior to BOS but he had a HOF career as a DH.

Should've traded Tomas for Martinez. Two birds.

They are the #4 prospect, the #15 prospect and unranked in what many consider to be a very weak farm system. Seems like the Dbacks came out ahead in the trade but that's going to depend on the rest of the year and if he re-signs with them. Biggest downside is that a weak farm system just got even weaker.

I'm just so happy they did something.

I only got the Reds feed they called it a rent a player the whole game? It wasn't mean just what they thought. Dumping Tomas would help. We will see how he plays and if someone will take Tomas.

People bring up his D well it can't be as bad as Tomas. Plus the Reds crew said he hits lefties really well and we need that big time.

Well... the chances of the Dbacks locking up Martinez for the long-term are very remote. I would say it's actually impossible if Tomas remains on the team. Even if Hazen pulls a rabbit out of the hat and locates a sucker out there willing to take on Tomas, with stars like Pollack, Peralta, Owings, Lamb, Ray and Bradley all due contracts after this season and Goldy up after 2018, it would still take a minor miracle for this team to be able to lock up Martinez in a multi-year deal...

I didn't know about his defense. We need defensive help in the outfield.

With a two month rental, you never know what you're going to get. We need to hope he stays healthy and does not get hit with another injury (worst case scenario) and we need to hope his excellent offense far outpaces his defensive liability. He's like a suped up version of Tomas, better bat and better defense, but same "model" of player.

Everything goes well and he adds 1-2 wins to the team above replacement level for the rest of the season. That's not small.

He's automatically better than anyone we can currently throw in LF right now though.

Why are you agents labor bro? Who cares how well or even if he plays. Just pay the man.

I know this is based on statistics but I have seen teams get bigger boosts from mid-season trades. There is no way to measure the psychological impact of the addition. IMO the Dbacks exploded last night because of the excitement about the trade. They were looking really good before LA. The sweep and the game 3 meltdown really seemed to damage their confidence. Getting JDM had to help. As a fan I all of a sudden feel like the Dbacks have a chance to win it all. The players must feel the same.
