Hairson was just brought up while Cruz is out injured. And now he's primarily an outfielder.
And if you send Kata down, that leaves only Cintron as backup 2B-SS-3B. You can't have only one spare infielder.
If another middle reliever deserves to be brought up, he'll need to replace an existing one.
Well.. tonight somewhat proved my point..... Neither Kata or Terrero were used during a 13-inning game and Bruney again struggled....
I was really impressed with Cormier's effort, but Gosling still hasnt settled into the relief role and I honestly dont believe he will fully adjust....
I know one of your major "pet-peeves" of Brenly was that he never used a "set" line-up on a regular basis, but it seems that Melvin does (which for the most part reduces Kata to probably come in as a late inning defensive replacement once a week..which has been few and far between) and Hairston I believe has only managed one AB since his promotion last Sunday.....
If let's say Kata was demoted to create space for another reliever (I believe either Jaiver Lopez or Kerry Ligtenberg will be called-up by early next week) and I'm certain that Hairston could play either 2nd or 3rd base out of necessity if an opportunity called for it.....
Im guess I'm still concerned about Bruney becoming Villarreal Part II (I bet he's suffering from some arm-strain that's caused him to struggle a lot more as of late, but he hasnt revealed it to anyone in fear of losing his spot) and Lyon can't be "ran out" there either on a regular basis or he too will endure that same exact fate.....
Again, the Dbacks still have a lot of bench depth regardless if either Kata or Hairston are demoted, but the pitching-staff will continue to be battered around and the consequences will be disasterous.....
