It makes absolutely NO logical sense since both players will be in final year before filing for free agency. But none of us knows exactly what the real deals will be... lots of poker playing before moves are made. Joe Jr.'s track record doesn't come close to a full house.Originally posted by schillingfan
I don't get Joe Jr's strategy. Trade away cheap talent for one year expensive talent AND trade Curt Schilling. If getting Sexson to make another run then why trade Curt?

That's way too much to give away for Sexson.... but it certainly wouldn't shock after the D'backs have made it plain that they want to shed salary. Last year's brief run of success with the Babybacks may have actually been a precursor for JC deciding to go back to his original 5 year plan when D'backs began--especially after seeing how the fans took to their Babybacks.
This would mean fielding mostly a young team sprinkled with a few vets (Gonzo & RJ) and a bonafide slugger (Sexson). That would likely result in a team that "may" compete for relatively "cheap" ... but you'd have to be delusional to think that that kind of team would be a serious World Series contender.
