Oscar MUST stay here... He's a gem, and besides that... the D'backs should consider their own marketing strategy since they long for the same kind of Mexican fan base that the Dodgers have enjoyed for many years.

If giving up Oscar, along with a couple others, means getting Sexson...

See ya later Oscar

I think giving up Oscar Villareal would be a huge mistake. He made the leap from AA to the majors and did an excellent job in the set-up role. I still think he has a future as a starter, and he's cheap for 2 more years.

I don't get Joe Jr's strategy. Trade away cheap talent for one year expensive talent AND trade Curt Schilling. If getting Sexson to make another run then why trade Curt?

If going young and cheap, why get Sexson. They won't be able to pay him next year anyway.

I guess the D'backs want to sell the theory that they aren't rebuilding. If you are going to trade away your talent, you may as well do it Florida Marlin's style. Get some great prospects back in return and dog it for a year or two

It makes absolutely NO logical sense since both players will be in final year before filing for free agency. But none of us knows exactly what the real deals will be... lots of poker playing before moves are made. Joe Jr.'s track record doesn't come close to a full house.

This morning's proposed 3-way trade in the AZ Republic made no sense.

The Republic reported a rumored 3 team deal involving the Brewers, Yankees and D-Backs. The Yankees would get Schilling essentially by giving Nick Johnson to the Brewers. The D-Backs would send Spivey, Patterson, Moeller, and possibly Danny Bautista to the Brewers. WTF is that. We get Sexson for a superstar and 4 good players. This trade sucks. I would in no way trade Curt straight up for Sexson yet alone throw in 4 players to boot. The D-backs would need to be desperate to shed that many players. I say trade him to Philly and get 3 prospects. If we are hurting so bad and we need to dump money trade, Mantei not 3-4 starters. Richie Sexson is not that good that I'd trade 5 players to have him for one year. Someone needs to drug test Garagiola Jr. if this farce has any validity.

That's way too much to give away for Sexson.... but it certainly wouldn't shock after the D'backs have made it plain that they want to shed salary. Last year's brief run of success with the Babybacks may have actually been a precursor for JC deciding to go back to his original 5 year plan when D'backs began--especially after seeing how the fans took to their Babybacks.

This would mean fielding mostly a young team sprinkled with a few vets (Gonzo & RJ) and a bonafide slugger (Sexson). That would likely result in a team that "may" compete for relatively "cheap" ... but you'd have to be delusional to think that that kind of team would be a serious World Series contender.

I am totally not excited about Sexson, and I think Joe G sucks ...but, as the article in the rag also noted, freeing 40-man roster spots is also a critical issue for the DBacks - I believe we have something like 7 of our top prospects - like Bruney, Chad Tracy - that we have to put on the 40-man or lose.

Moeller will go. Spivey is overpaid for his value, as is Danny B, so Joe may be trying to undo previous errors by making new ones. I still think Patterson has genuine upside, and if we lose Schilling and maybe lose Miggy, he'd look better in our rotation than any of our other prospects right now. Capuano still has some serious polishing to do. Plus, I'd heard NYY weren't letting Nick Johnson go anywhere.

Bah. Humbug.

To me anything less then Sexson and 2 can't miss prospects for Schilling and 4 players is insanity. We would need to reload with the prospects. Curt has at least 3 more years and Spivey will be great. This would be nuts.

Gammons said Sexson for Patterson, Overbay, Spivey and Bautista.

That would be the stupidest trade of all time. Is Sexton really that good?
