I try to translate:

Hampered by back pains during a good part of the last season, Boris Diaw could miss the 2007 Euro in Spain. In addition to the recurring injury of the former Palois (Diaw played for Pau-Orthez), another serious problem arises.
Phoenix required the French Federation to pay for the player insurance for his back during the whole period he will be available for the French team.
What, considering the money amount discussed, is not something easy...

Bad news for the French team. Maybe it could be a disguised blessing for Boris (and the Suns).

very bad news for the french team..

The french federation is waiting proposal from insurance companies. Diaw will not practice with the French Team untill they take a decision.

I can't remember much being said about his back. If it really is an issue, I'd much rather he stay here doing rehab and strength work. BTW, if there was even a hint on Boris having back issues, then the Suns were indeed supremely stupid in signing him to that big contract.

If this is the lineup the Suns play the Spurs with in the WCF, then I'd agree. I don't believe it.

In any case, there were a lot people who were calling for the Suns FO's heads when they were afraid they would not extend Diaw. I'll admit I eventaully buckled dispite my misgivings; but the Diaw extention is what what has caused much of the LT problem.

So tell me, were you part of the "give Boirs $10 million a year" crowd?

I'm fine with Boris playing for France, as long as he shows up in shape next season.

Boris' problem last summer wasn't the Euros, it was the month after that (when he didn't do anything but eat).

Suns notebook: Suns, French team clash over Diaw
Jerry Brown, Tribune
An insurance issue could keep Suns forward Boris Diaw from playing for France in the upcoming European Championships.

The French newspaper L’Equipe reported Monday that the Suns will not allow Diaw, who signed a $45 million extension with Phoenix last summer, to practice or play for France unless the national team obtains a specific insurance policy that would absolve the Suns of paying the contract in the event of injury. That information was confirmed by an NBA source.

Such a policy, which would likely cost in excess of $100,000, would specifically cover Diaw’s troublesome back problems, which cost him nine games last season and bothered him over much of the second half of the season.

The French apparently believed the Suns wouldn’t stand in the way of their national team captain playing for his country even without the insurance, but Phoenix made its intentions clear during a recent conversation. And Diaw was absent from the initial team workout.

If insurance is secured before the tournament begins in early September, it would clear the way for Diaw to play.

Translation of a Boris statement, courtesy of Phxsuns.net:

“it is not the first time that that arrives to me. With my very cambered back, I am predisposed to encounter dorsal problems. I had been wounded already at this place but they were not also serious.”

Another Q situation, perhaps?

Reason Suns don't want Boris in France:

SUNS don't want to spend another penny on any new players - let alone another big man - because Sarver is too cheap to buy a player. Yes he is cheap regardless of their net salary.

If Boris gets injured in France, Suns would be short of yet another big man. This is something D'Antoni, Kerr, and Saver want to avoid because they only have Boris and Amare as their only bigs.

If Boris breaks his arm, Sarver won't spend a penny on any new player to fill in. Instead he'd cut Boris' injured arm off and sell it on eBay for cash and a draft pick.

Well, I'll say this for Marion: Of the big contracts left on the roster, he's the only one without a serious recurring health problem.

I think that he would sell the arm AND a draft pick for cash.

From Eric's favorite, Babelfish:

Boris Diaw (Photo the Team) affirmed Tuesday that he could contribute to the payment of the insurance for his back, if the cost proves too high for the French Federation: "It will be necessary to see. That will depend on the insurance which one will find, it is possible." The Suns Phoenixes refuse that their player, who suffers from recurring problems to the back, involves himself with his selection if it did not subscribe of insurance. In the past, the German Dirk Notwitzki and the Lithuanian Arvydas Sabonis would have also put the hand at the pocket in similar situations.

While waiting for a solution on the side of the Federation, Boris Diaw does not take part in the drives with opposition of the team of France, which started Monday with Divonne-the-Baths (Ain) its preparation for the Championships of Europe. "That poses a small problem on the level of the knowledge of the players, of my fellow-members, systems of play, T-it explained. I have them on paper in theory but it is especially the fact of learning how to play with new players that I do not know inevitably."

Actually the translation is much cleaner than the Spanish stuff in 2005, although it does tend to sound like Hercule Perot.

You're kidding right? Considering Sarver has approved the signing of every single player on the team except Marion and we have one of the highest payrolls in the league.

You mean that's not cheap?
