It would not surprise me if Archie Goodwin becomes a late bloomer like former Suns draft pick Stephen Jackson who played overseas before developing his game. He had a long NBA career.
Jones Jr. has a bit more chance of getting minutes than Archie. Jenkins has always been thought of very highly.I think some of this and some of what Slinslin said. The Suns are probably trying to save some money and also give Archie a chance to sign with another NBA team or play overseas. Archie was not going to get an opportunity to play with the Suns. However, he might have been used in a trade to make salaries work.
The puzzler for me was keeping John Jenkins who will make $1.05 million. Maybe I'm missing something. I like that the Suns kept Derrick Jones Jr. who has a chance to develop at the forward position. He has tremendous athletic talent.
I disagree. He did not earn the time. Other players got the time ahead of him because they earned it.I think it is sad because Goodwin could have and still could develop into a great player but the Suns never allowed him to develop by playing on the court in actual games. You can only develop so much by just practice.
It would absolutely shock me. He might go overseas and develop some and then come back in some sort of Sonny Weems role, but I doubt he will develop into a solid NBA rotation player. It would not surprise me if Archie Goodwin becomes a late bloomer like former Suns draft pick Stephen Jackson who played overseas before developing his game. I am not so sure they are hoping that Jenkins will develop. He is already what they are looking for in a guard. He is a two that plays passable defense, has size, and shoots over 40% from the 3.Jones Jr. is a young project player with tremendous athletic talent much like Archie when he was drafted by the Suns. It would be terrific if he developed. The Suns were set at guard. Jones Jr. should get plenty of playing time in the D-League.
It is interesting to note Jenkins is 25 years old and Goodwin is still only 22 yet we are still hoping Jenkins can develop. I think the Suns let Archie go so he can find another team with a better opportunity to play. It is best for both parties at the time but I think the Suns will come to regret it over the long term.
Completely disagree with the last part. I remember that, it was when the play was designed for Alex Len to shoot a 3 for the final play of the game.As far as Archie goes, even in his best moments, he did not do what coaches asked. That game winner last year, where the final shot was set up for Len (whether or not you like that idea is beside the point) and Archie decided he wasn't doing it even before the play started. He is just not coachable. He needed to be gone.

So glad Hornacek is no longer here.
Did anyone claim Archie off waivers? If not, we know his value to other GM's.
He's certainly got the right attitude to try and make this work.Goodwin on what he brings to an NBA team: “Offensively, I attack. I get to the free throw line, get into the lane and make plays. Defensively is where I’m going to have to step it up a lot. This year, I really want to be a two-way player. I feel like offensively, we’ve got (Anthony Davis) and plenty of scoring. But defensively is something I can really contribute to.”
