C'mon, Rugby. Do a little research first. He was Asst. HC/DBs coach for the Dolphins from 2008 to 2011, working with Paul Pasqualoni and then Mike Nolan (a pretty accomplished 3-4 DC). He was the interim HC in Miami after they axed Tony Sparano, and then moved over to Philly.

In a lot of ways, Todd Bowles has followed the same career path as Ray Horton.

In fact, he was the runner up to Horton in 2011 for the DC spot.

I am with GEE and Mitch on this one. A dark day indeed. Arians was passed up as much as Horton was on the interview front.

Ray got chewed up. And frankly, if he got pissed I am more inclined to believe him than the organization.

I cannot see a organizational focus with this hire. No path out of the darkness. Nor do I have a sense of where the team is going from an identity standpoint.

I'll vouch for the job he did in Miami. He got Vontae Davis to play with a pulse and had the secondary playing moderately respectably.

He's a player's coach, and I think Adrian will quickly grow to like him. Interested in seeing if he can rebound from his brief tenure in Philadelphia.

I personally thought it was hilarious to fire basically everyone on the coaching staff and retain Horton if they had the thought that the new coach would want someone he did not personally hire for HIS staff. The NFL just does not function that way. I think it made sense when considering if Horton might be the HC, but seldom does it seem there is carry over from an old staff when a new coach starts to call his shots.
Interesting! Cause the Chargers just fired Norv, hired McCoy and STILL kept Pagano....

Seawhawks fired their old HC, hire Pete Carroll and still kept Bradley!

Niners fired Singletery, hired Harbaugh and still kept Jim Tomsula..

How do you know that he is a quality guy? His interviews didn't go well enough to get a job and he threw a tantrum when he didn't get what he wanted.

Why is he such a "good guy"?

Yeah we get it by all your other posts about Horton you don't care for him, by theway nice name on your avatar the QB who quit on the team

Sounds like it had more to do with the reported blowup between Keim and Horton the other night.

Here's what I don't understand. Everyone seems to be assuming it's on Horton. Anyone ever see Horton blow up? He's been a calm, controlled guy for two years.

If this happened, how do we know Keim wasn't the jerk who said something rude to Horton? Or handled it badly.

I just don't see Horton as the guy who reacts to "We're going with someone else" with a big blowup. Haley, yes. Horton, no. (Anyone know what Keim's rep is? How he handles people? I have no idea and am wondering.)

Disgusted or just disappointed? Neither emotion is pleasant. Any way Arians can bring Luck with him?

not disgusted. i just feel... meh. he's gonna be Tobin Two IMO.

I actually see a McGinnis parallel. Just waiting for the "One Heartbeat" advertisign for 2013 season tickets.

All the people lamenting about Ray Horton not as HC.....

ITS ALL ABOUT THE COORDINATORS.

I have seen Mitch write novellas about Horton as the backbone and his persona an yadda yadda yadda.. Bottom line is if he could have delivered Norv Turner he would be the HC of the Arizona Cardinals. Or the HC of the Cleveland Brown. Hell i read yesterday that was the DECIDING factor in Chud being named HC in CLE over Wiz. His staff.

Yes the defense was the only good part of last year. But to have hired Horton with Kirby freaking Wilson as the OC would have been the biggest dumpster fire of all time. I am meh on this decision overall but I am sure as hell glad they went offense and a QB guru. If not we should have rightfully questioned the sanity of the entire front office.

If anyone is wondering why Roy Horton isnt a HC yet, its because he doesnt have enough relationships in the NFL to bring qualified guys on a staff under him. Maybe thats the otherside of the "confidence" and fire everyone loves.

Saying all that my guess is the Cardinals and Mikey F----ed this all up. Arians and Horton worked together in Pitt. If handled properly we should have been able to have our cake and eat it too. And why was Arians contacted to late in the process?

SOC Baby.

This times 100. Horton couldn't promise the guns on the offensive staff and lost out. He has no one to blame but himself. Which is why his little blowup was so ridiculous.

Yeah, I know I am wrong on that one.

COMPLETELY TOTALLY WRONG. I "re-read" his past and he has done a lot. He is an assistant head coach, interm head coach.

I know I looked at it before.....at least I thought it was him.....and there was nothing on him.

I either had the wrong guy, and just completely phase out..... I dunno. But when I looked up Todd Bowles last night, I was telling myself, " Who the hell did you read about last time ?"

I dunno.

"I am not crazy my mother had me tested."

That is all I can say about that mistake.

The facts are that when Horton was interviewed with McCoy and the Cardinals were still interested in Reid, Horton knew he might not get the job. But, once those two were hired elsewhere Horton seemed to think the job was his which is understandable. So, instead of giving him the spot, they expanded their search which Horton obviously did not like.

I think Horton is being a little bit of sour grapes and is probably raising a red flag for teams in the future. Despite not liking how a process goes, as an incumbent coach, you should be willing to play out your contract. The fact that he blows up the GM even though he knows he might be out anyway due to Arians wanting to bring in his own guy is sad. I expected more from Ray Horton, not in his feelings (which I understand), but in his actions. Those are not the actions of a leader of men.
