I thought he went for a third. I remember thinking that Green Bay got a steal. Green's a stud.

Whoops!

here is what they traded to get Ahman Green:

Came to Titletown in a trade on April 15, 2000, that sent cornerback Fred Vinson to the Seahawks, the Packers also obtaining Seattle's fifth-round selection in the 2000 draft - the 22nd pick in the round and the 151st overall - in exchange for Green Bay's sixth-round choice - the 19th in the round and the 185th overall - permitting the Packers to move up 34 places in the draft.

Well check the Packers site....I think they remember better than either of us...

Read the very last entry:

So the Packers sent a dud player (Fred Vinson) and their sixth rounder, for Ahman Green and Seattle's fifth rounder.....Suckhawks got fleeced as Fred Vinson was a bust, and Ahman Green a Pro Bowler.

I think that Green had a lot of talent, but he fumbled (he still does) and had a lot of problems with injuries (he still does). Green had such an impact on the Pack in 2000 and 2001, but the injury question came back full force this season, where he missed a lot of action.

It seems that the Pack took a calculated risk on Green and it's paid off the past couple seasons, especially if you consider the beating that it's saved Favre in his golden QB years.

is barron tanner really that big of a stiff?
He's certainly big enough. I wouldn't call him a total stiff - just not real consistent. Both he and Davis make just enough decent plays to avoid being cut. (but at least if Tanner makes a mistake and is just standing around, he's big enough so that the runner might accidently run into him).

But the thought of us going into next season with both Tanner and Davis still starting (or at least playing a lot) is depressing.

Green missed alot of action? He started 14 games this past season and was close to setting a personal mark for number of carries for the year (previous high was 306 and he had 386 last year). I wouldn't call that missing alot of action. Additionally, the Pack was giving some carries to Tony Fisher (ND rookie). I don't think I would charaterize that as missing alot of time. His avg per carry went down which is probablky attributed to injuries to himself and the GB Oline.

He did fumble the ball 4 times in those 14 games but in 2000 and 2001 he fumbled 4 times in each one of those years.

You have to look at more than the stats. I had Green on my fantasy team (my #1 draft pick), and he has unable to complete at least 3-4 games that he started. At least a couple times, he went down in the first quarter or early in the second. I also switched to the GB games, since I was in a house with SundayTicket. He missed a lot of snaps, and if the Pack had played in a division that wasn't the NFC North (heading South), they would have lost a lot of those games.

Do you really think that they'd put a 1500-yard rusher on the shelf for a mediocre rookie (Couldn't even find out where he was drafted) if they didn't have to?

Green was an injury case in SEA, which was the primary reason why he was traded.

We will disagree on this because I watch almost every Pack game (think I watched 15 reg season) start to finish because my wife was born and raised in Green Bay and loves them. I never suggested he played all 14 games start to finish. I also acknowledged he was injured this year and that did probably lead to a lower avg per carry total. He was approaching 1300 yeards in just those 14 games so things aren't as bad as you make tyhem out to be...and maybe not as rosy as I make them out to be.

As for Tony Fisher, he was an undrafted FA whom nobody could figure out why he wasn't chosen somewhere. The kid isn;t bad and during the summer when I was up in GB, the Pack staff was very impressed and said they would be spelling Green with Fisher so in addition to some time playing due to Green's injuries, Fisher also got carries on a somehwta regular basis to give Green a breather.
