Do you think Cards skip on picking a QB with their first pick if Palmer continues to play better the rest of the year? I have a feeling they will not pick a first round QB if he continues to play well and gets us to the playoffs. I really hope I am wrong, but Arians does make some crazy decisions.

If a QBOF is there in the 1st round the Cardinals will take him.

The only other position I see them keying in on is OT.

Past those two great needs, I can see the Cardinals drafting the BPA from

OG, OC, TE, DL, OLB, DB

First of all, I think Keim is the one making the decision - not Arians.

Personally, I really don't know about taking a QB next year. Good quarterbacks are hard to find and if a QB drops to us, we should probably take him. BUT! I would actually prefer to get the O-line in place first and then draft a QB. If that means going with Palmer for a year or two, then be it. Another way to go my preferred way could of course be signing Jared Veldheer - He's young and just below the elite group of LT in the NFL.

Several teams ahead of the Cardinals will likely be picking quarterbacks. I really think the Cardinals will pick the best player available at most any position except wide receiver and possibly inside linebacker.

They will likely pick a quarterback at some point, but I don't think they'll move up to get one in round one. SK hates parting with draft picks.

I agree that they only pick a QB in Round 1 if one SK really, really likes falls to them. Otherwise, I believe they will most likely go OL AGAIN to help shore up this pathetic line.

I'd add running back to that list of exceptions.

Cardinals would have to be crazy to pick a RB in any round earlier than the 5th, IMHO.

For the sake of conversation, say the Cardinals pick Cyrus Kouandjio, LT out of Alabama in next year's draft.

LT: Cyrus Kouandjio
LG: Jonathan Cooper
OC: Lyle Sendlein
RG: Bradley Sowell :)D - you could put a couple guys here, just my personal fav)
RT: Bobby Massie

If the Cardinals go Oline again, then they may, just may, no longer have a pathetic offensive line.....dare I say it may become a strength if they upgrade the talent on the line per above.

The Early mock drafts that I have seen have us taking either OT Cyrus Kouandjio or OT Antonio Richardson

We're playing ourselves out of that elite QB pick I wouldn't mind a big trade to move up. But I think it's gonna be BPA OL, OLB or a DB

If CP's current level of play continues through the rest of the year then QBOF falls way down on the needs list.

My guess is if at all possible SK will grab himself a QB in the upcoming draft.

Well, Palmer's not going to continue to play like this the rest of the year, so this is a purely hypothetical question (Last three weeks have not had a QB Rating below 93--that's not sustainable for Carson Palmer).

I don't think anything would prevent the Cards from picking a QB in the first round if he's the best player available. I think that where the Cards will be picking, they'll have to/get to take the greatest value on their board (similar, IMO, to how the Cards picked Michael Floyd two years ago).

The challenge for draft predictors is to think about who will be taken before the Cards pick.

Lots of good qbs in the draft this year. Cards can pick one up in rounds 2 or 3 to sit behind Palmer and develop. IMO they go BPA in Round 1 which just might happen to be an OT.

From 11-28-04 to 12-04-05 Palmer had a QB rating over 100 for 14 out of 15 consecutive games. :D

How Palmer plays the rest of the season will depend on how the players around him play , If the line gets over-run Palmer will look like crap ( JUST LIKE ANY OTHER QB ) , if the line continues to build chemistry and gives him a decent pocket , Palmer will play just fine.

Who would you say is an elite QB in this year's draft? I think all the QB's in this year's draft are pretty much even in terms of how much they would help ARZ next year. I don't think there is a QB in this year's draft that will make ARZ a playoff team next year, Teddy Bridgewater included. I think ARZ could take a QB in Round 2 and be good. If Brett Hundley in there in Round 2 I would take him and let him sit behind Palmer next year. Next year's #1 needs to be an impact guy: OT or OLB. Khalil Mack or Kouandijo would be my preferences, I am cooling on Taylor Lewan as he looks to be struggling this year and will struggle in the pros.

Hell guys- Palmer is just getting acclimated to this team- I would like to see a good prospect behind him for 2 years- but with ba wanting to pass for chunks every down- qb development may take 4 years- patients is not an nfl virtue

I was thinking this same thing yesteday, except I had Watford at RG. I would still like to see Sendlein replaced at C, maybe with Cooper.

The way Kouandjio has been playing, he has little chance of making to the Cards pick. He'll be battling Matthews as the first OT off the board. However, the way Lewan has been playing, which is not very good, he may be around when the Cards pick.

Richardson or the FSU LT would be possible choices. Still, if Carr keeps playing like he has and is available, I'd like the Cards to take him and let him sit for a year, then take over. If Palmer keeps playing well, it would be a perfect time for the Cards to implement that type of plan. I could even live with Mettenberger as a guy to be groomed under Palmer and he may be available in round 2.

If Palmer plays like he has in the last 3 games for the rest of the season, we will likely be in the playoffs, which means 2 things:

1. He is good enough to keep on the roster for one more year (perhaps behind a first round LT???)

2. We will be picking late enough that our choices will be Derek Carr or Tahj Boyd...or worse. Not sure if there is a franchise QB in the bunch.

I AGREE w/ AZ JAM...

Years ago we picked a guy named "Lomax" in the 2nd round and, to me, talent-wise he was as good as Dan Marino. You compare the "stats" at the start of their careers. #'s DON'T lie. The difference between the two was Marino had a GREAT line and Neil didn't. Marino went to the Super Bowl and Neil ended up with a busted hip.

Point is, good/great scouting depts. (ie; GM's) "find" good/great players. I consider this past draft a tremendous success already. I see "contributors". ...And because of their injuries we've yet to see what Cooper and Minter can do.

Unlike so many past years of Cardinal drafts I now have a quiet confidence that we're going to do well. QB? We'll see.

Mark in SC :)

while I'd love to see Palmer play the way he has the last three weeks, I think it will be a challenge to do so. we gotta remember that in the last three weeks we've played pretty much the three worst teams in the league, 2 of the 3 with awful defenses and the other which has a nice ranking, but has been in an 8 game tailspin.

Niners, Seahawks, Colts, Eagles...all winning teams with decent to very good defenses. My guess is he falls back to the pack. But maybe he really does have control of this offense finally. the proof will be in the pudding.

that said, if there is a QBOF there that we really like and pass on him, I'll be pretty upset. Gotta start looking to the future with this club and hopefully make moves in FA where you don't force yourself to take a LT again at the expense of a better player.

All I know is the way Mike Glennon is playing in Tampa that should help push a decent QB further down in the draft. Or at least one can hope.

Wouldn't be bad. I am not so high on Sendlein, I don't think he is that good. Not sure about Sowell at guard, but it might work..

Yes for two reasons...

1 - Carson Palmer isn't good
2 - This draft is solid with QB's in the area of our 1st round pick IMO.

Draft a qb or o-lineman in the first round. Whichever is bpa.

Just an aside. What kind of prospect is Taylor Kelly? He seems to be having as much impact as some of the bigger names in this draft, but not getting much of a look. Forget about the home town factor.
