You must be registered for see images

To be unsportsmanlike is to act in a manner unbecoming to the image of professional basketball. It consists of acts of deceit, disrespect of officials and profanity. The penalty for such action is a technical foul. Repeated acts shall result in expulsion from the game and a minimum fine of $1000.

A flagrant foul-penalty (1) is unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent.

A flagrant foul-penalty (2) is unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent. It is an unsportsmanlike act and the offender is ejected immediately.

The offender will be subject to a fine not exceeding $35,000 and/or suspension by the Commissioner.

See Rule 12B-Section IV for interpretation and penalties.

Don't know how current this is, but it indicates that the suspension is discretionary.

Problem was it wasn't a tech for that...it was a delay of game call, the second, so it was a tech.

That's what made it so weird. The team with the ball can seriously do whatever they want (within reason) before throwing it in. How in the world can you get a delay of game call on your own possession?? It's your possesion to delay, if you so desire...

jbeecham...yes, one free throw did not determine the outcome...however, it's one glaring example of poor officiating, that mostly was detrimental to the Lakers. I don't recall the Suns players being in any foul trouble either, though we were going inside quite a bit. officials, whatever...they didn't do well tonight, or in the last game. That's the way she goes. But blown calls happen a lot..that's just one.

Poor D-Dogg, You just lost all credibility. First you say that you could literally "dryhump" the ball before throwing it in, and now you can do whatever you want (within reason)? Pick a side and stick to it. :)

OK, I am really just mad that I missed out on this entire thread.

I didn't see the play, but I read that Bell pointed at the Laker bench after the foul. If true, that probably won't help his case any.

These last few days have given me a new appreciation for Clipper fans (no offense, Renz, abomb, and LSM--ok, and D-Dogg). :D

I think it would have been funny if someone approached Kobe after the foul when he was laughing at the crowd and shaking his head and said, "So... happy that Raja is out for game 6? Well, see my smile? That's because there is a Game 6, and let's face it, Game 5 was a blowout. See you in LA, chump."

Raja would clean Kobe's clock in a fight.
Kobe is tricky, smooth and dirty - but didn't he take a couple punches to the face from the mighty Tyron Lue a couple years ago and not respond?
BTW - dumb play by Raja - He should know like the rest of us do that cheapshots to B level players like Boris and Tim are not gonna get looked at as hard as a cheapshot to Kobe.
Damn - looks like I'll be paying D-Dogg that boot of Konig Ludwig...
He's responsable for his own caride out of there...

I don't mean to insult you, I really don't...but do you know the rules of a defensive 3 second call? It's not a cake call like a three second offensive call. There are a lot more variables.

Would it have been truly funny if instead of Raja cheapshotting Kobe, that instead Kobe had clotheslined Raja?

I personally find no funny in either case.
Yes I do know the rules. The defender has to be within arms length of an offensive player to remain in the painted area for more than 3 seconds. The plays I'm talking about had all the Suns players on the perimeter 18-25ft out and 4 Lakers in the paint while Nash dribbles at the top of the key waiting for the call to happen......no call happens, Nash complains and then the Suns are immediately called for a defensive 3 second violation on one of the next plays.

Like on the play where barbosa makes a three, I think in the third Qtr. Qwame was in the lane guarding no one, for at least 7-8 sec and nothing called, I for 1 am getting sic and tired of seeing him get away with 3 sec def sag the whole time he's on the court!

By the way, since I've seen you guys spelling a few different ways...it's "Kwame Brown" :)

I would have agreed with you about Raja gaining more respect from the officials if it was not for his takedown of Kobe Bryant last night. Now they will be watching him closely. There are a lot more likely to call him from man handling Kobe Bryan and others.

I love Bell because he is on the Phoenix Suns, but I can hardly blame Kobe Bryant for throwing an occasional elbow. I mean Raja is molesting him on nearly every Lakers possession, and then he's flopping all over the place when Kobe Bryant fights back.

I don't quite understand why they called delay of game on that play where Sasha slammed the ball against the base of the basket. Seems to me they were taking it easy on him by not just calling a technical.

Joe

It's time for us to admit that physical presence is important to the Final. I am sure most refs know all the BS Bruce Bowen has pulled but if people call him one of the best defensive players in the league, I can't see why Raja can't do what he does. Being honest/soft doesn't get us anywhere. Just look at Manu's flopping.

A player like Raja is you love him on your team but hate him when he is against you. That's why I want to keep Raja.
