I have heard from many women that thier "guy" won't let them ask football questions while watching the game. Well, I find that ridiculous. I try to answer as many questions as I can to help my woman learn the game I love to watch. She usually remembers from week to week and is slowly but surely getting the game down. It is fun cause she is starting to get into it. For exampe: She roots for the Texans, and was p*ssed that they didn't enough offensive line support in the draft. I never said anything about it, and all of a sudden on draft day I hear swearing and complaining about football. It was great.
But on the other side, a lot of women say they want to learn, and then just make a joke of it. Which is a waste of time, and highly annoying. But if your girls seriously wants to learn the game then teach them. And always remember, they never got to play so they don't know ANYTHING, so you got be patient.

Oh yeah! It helps to make a deal that you get to snicker at questions that make no sense, or are funny because they don't know any better.
But only a snicker, not laughing as hard as you can, and pointing at them.

My girlfriend (who I will marry someday) always has to tell ME to stop talking! :D

She actually understands it pretty well, and is adept at seeing holding, clipping, and other penalties (called or not). She actually watches the draft with me every year!

A good way to teach her to look for it is:

1. First explain what the penalties are.

2. Make a contest of who can see and call the penalites first.

Cause your "partner" ALWAYS like a good competitive thing that makes them look smarter than you. I can always count on a good discussion over pass interference.

Not any more.

If your partner already paints her face red and knows the difference between press coverage and Cover Two - consider yourself blessed.

My wife truly HATES football. She might turn the corner, though. She said that she'd go to that Football 101 for Women (or whatever it's called), if they have it again. I think she just wants to see what it is that makes me a freak for 20 weeks a year.

My "partner" (I feel kind of gross calling her that in this day and age) isn't that far along yet, but hopefully someday she will be!

My wife actually used football to catch me, inviting me over on Sundays to teach her about it and cook for me and ... well anyways we never ended up watching much football. After married I did my best to teach her about it, letting her know the players names, I even had my own business that provided home repair services to a few of the players and let her meet them personally in their homes. It didn't work. Football became my "Girlfriend" taking time away from her on Sundays. She now hates it but I still watch and we occasionally fight over it but she is a good woman and Mondays through Saturdays are great!! It's like weekly PMS during football season. :D

Football was a sinch! The only thing I have to do is explain to my wife certain penalties and strategy (like the kneel downs at the end of a half) from time-to-time.

try teaching the game of hockey sometime! I gave up on that a long time ago...

Football and Wives

My wife taught me football. Laugh, I never watched it and didn't really enjoy it... then I married a monstrous Bears fan and she insisted we watch football every Sunday. Now I'm a monstrous football fan too, but she's a little disappointed I went with the home team over her Bears.

I love my wife.

My girlfriend is catching on to the game and she is great about all of it. She sets up snacks, puts on her jersey, sits down and watches the games with me. She is great about it. She is learning slowly but she is doing very well. Now that we are back here in the Valley I will see if she wants to go to the Football 101 Night with the Cards. If she goes I will let her know how jealous I am. Maybe I will dress like a Hog-ette for the night :) THE HORROR!!

My wife has been great the last few years. I think the key is to get them rooting for a team.. Any team but the Raiders or the Cowboys will do.

We live in KC so she's much more of a Chiefs fan than a Cardinals fan which causes some strife over the remote but we worked out rules on switching that has minimized conflict. Always seems the Cardinals and Chiefs play at the same time.

There are downsides as in seeing football gameday loss depression in your spouse. Once in a while the Cardinals will win and the Chiefs will lose and it's rather odd being the happy one.

Now try teaching hockey to not just a woman but anyone who dosen't follow it, Tough sell, Football is a breeze compared to that!

Hell yeah!

I have no idea what is happening in Hockey. I just know it is CRAZY, and the guys who play are just as crazy. Maybe it is because I played rugby but only a moron would put skates on and let people knock him around.
I have enough trouble on two size 14 feet, and I need all that surface area to play a game. The last time I even tried to ice skate it was a horror for me and anyone else in my area. I will stick to land sports!
But playoff hocket is cool as h*ll!

i had a girlfriend that just hated sports period. that was rough. but i got her to learn to enjoy football by enticing her with sex. no kidding. we'd wake up for the early game, and if it wasn't the cards (which needed more focus), we'd stay in bed and make certain plays worth certain "incentive acts" - worked like a charm. she learned everything she needed to learn and looked forward to sunday mornings fervently.

My wife is a Steeler fan and she doesn't care to hear anything I have to say about football since I'm a Card fan. I'm allowed to point out penalties and mistakes made by the other team but never against the Steelers. It's like messing with a she-bear's cub, I come away bloody. It ought to be great when the Cards and Steelers play each other this year. Our son and daughter son have already asked to be allowed to come over just to watch. Go Cards!

Prior to meeting me 3 1/2 years ago, my wife had never even watched a hockey game. Now she knows the offensive and defensive zones, understands icing, offsides, and the two-line pass, knows what the crease is, and knows how to pronounce "Roy". But she still thinks that all the players are skating around aimlesly and all goals are the result of pure luck.

She hates football, but is starting to understand it and has said she'll actually go to a game with me this season...as long as it's not cold. I think Detroit will be it!
