No. Sorry. The above isn’t just hyperbole, it’s a total fabrication about why people were mad about the move at the time. The anger came from the fact that this team HAD to give up assets for a guy they should have just signed outright in FA but were too cheap too AND we should have never depended on Colt McCoy’s completely washed ass in the first place, necessitating the Dobbs trade.

posts that not only oversimplify others arguments but completely misrepresent what the original pov was does nothing but try and stoke flame wars.
The fabrication is the idea the Cardinals could have signed in the first place.

Reporting blew up all of the speculation that the Cardinals could have signed. Josh Dobbs reportedly wanted to stay with a winner, not leave to a team that's likely to have a losing season. But feel free to still spout off on the speculation part that has been disproven.

There weren't many good, cheap options to replace McCoy. It's straight up Bigfoot arguments.

The people that complained we traded too much or should not have traded at all are now complaining we let him go.

It was an obviously great move. We got 8 games of better than McCoy QB play from a guy the players believed it. He didn't win many games but he kept us in most of them and that was important for a new coaching team trying to install a winning culture. For the cost of 20-25 spots in the draft in the high 100's.

It's hard to go out there with a guy like McCoy or Tune who you know is a dead cert lost cause. Tough to get players up for that and there would have been a lot of 27-3 scorelines.

He served his purpose and basically breaking even on that was smart now Kyler is back.

1-7 with Dobbs
0-8 with McCoy

1-7 and 0-8 are basically the same thing

Dobbs sucks and he's still in his prime - at least as far as age goes lol - this Dobbs was good and we were lucky revisionist history channel nonsense cracks me up

Just watched a replay of the Vikings/Falcons game. Kudos to Dobbs for rallying the Vikings, but let’s not forget he gave up a safety & had a fumble returned to the 1. What’s most impressive about the Vikings is how much better their D is. If and when they get great QB play again, they will be a very difficult team to beat.

Kyler is better than Dobbs by a country mile, my brothers chill for water under the bridge
Dobbs fumbled twice inside his own 20 & the Vikings D held the Falcons to FG’s both times. Every turnover he had with us seemed to cost us 7 every time. Vikings D getting better every week.

Pa, imo the amazing thing about Dobbs' performance was that he just joined the team, and was able to even call plays. Makes me feel better about being a smart guy.

Yes, it’s truly amazing that he was even able to play considering he didn’t practice. And Atlanta obviously didn’t prepare a lick for him & he killed them mostly with his legs. We sometimes forget that Dobbs is in the top 3 in SEC HISTORY running the ball as a QB. But , as we all saw, the more he plays, and the more teams plan for him, the worst he’ll get.

BritCard would you have necessarily traded Dobbs away though? Don't you think he's a better QB2 option vs. Tune Driskel or Blough?

Yes I would. For 2 reasons.

He's FA at the end of the season and no guarantee he will sign and getting most of the original trade back is a win. If he does sign he's likely going to be fairly expensive having shown at least the ability to keep a poor roster in games and move the ball and score points as well as you could expect from a backup.

But he also went 1-7. If you have to go to your backup more often than not you are going to lose anyway and this roster is in no shape to make up for the shortcomings of a backup. He would be an expensive luxury.

Because he's FA we always have the option of trying to bring him back. If we can do that for reasonable money while improving this roster enough that it might be able to win 2 out of 3 if Kyler misses a spell then I agree he'd be a good backup.

But I think Dobbs might be looking for more than warming a bench now. So in the circumstances it was a smart move to get a 6th back. Chances are he was never going to play for us again.

JG spoke with Dobbs during the day on Monday. Monti has said the first contact from the Vikings came on Monday night.
i think JG told Dobbs what he knew at the time

I was reacting to "interest they couldnt turn down" -- which makes it sound like they got far more than a 6th round pick

JG real straight-shooter.
Man you always just assume the worst.

Why assume malice when incompetence is a better explanation (Hanlon's razor)?

And even then, it's perfectly logical that JG initially, before viewing tape, said Dobbs would start. Then saw what we saw and said...er nope... Tune will start. And then the Vikings called and offered a trade which gives a draft pick AND cap space.

Is incompetence a more comforting explanation for this from our head coach?

I don't think either is really a good look. But do you.

That's one explanation, but still the timeline of events suggests otherwise.

No it's not, but it's also less likely than the view that the situation was fluid and changed. Nothing was owed to Josh Dobbs and he was arguably put in a better situation (other than having to live in Minneapolis).

It could be that Gannon and Monti aren't on the same page.
It could be that Gannon knew at the time and pressed Monti not to trade him but was delusional in his ability to stop it from happening.
It could be that Gannon isn't a straight shooter.

None of these are good looks.
Beyond that, for whatever reason it occurred, it's another weird spectacle playing out in public coming out of the Arizona Cardinals franchise that does not rehabilitate our public image.
All from circumstances we 100% controlled. (aka an unforced error)
