Dockett calls out Arizona fans

Defensive tackle decries booing of offense

Staff writer Matt Simpson contributed to this report.

The Cardinals are 2-5 and struggling in most aspects of the game.

But defensive tackle Darnell Dockett said Wednesday the team desperately needs its fans behind it Sunday against Seattle — no matter how frustrated those fans might be.

"There have been games where the offense has been struggling and our own fans boo our offense," Dockett said. "It’s like, excuse my language, but what type of (expletive) is that?

"We’re all supposed to be a family, and true Arizona Cardinal fans are supposed to be behind us. You hear people talk about they suck, they suck, and all this. It’s cool that that’s their opinion, but at the same time, don’t knock us for not giving effort. We give great effort — don’t get it wrong — and we fall short."

Dockett also said there are times he prefers to play on the road instead of Sun Devil Stadium.

"When you go somewhere like Dallas, when that boy (Anthony Henry) ran that interception back (against Arizona), it sounded like a earthquake in there," Dockett said. "It was so loud. I had to sit up to look to see what was going on. . . . The fans do play a big part in an organization. Whenever you go into one of those hostile environments the first thing they say is you better strap up ‘cause those fans will be loud. This year our fans have been doing decent, but any time you see them boo the offense, that’s not encouraging."

So far, 40,603 tickets have been distributed for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

BROWN DONE?

An MRI on rookie guard Elton Brown’s right knee revealed a tear in the meniscus, coach Dennis Green said, and there is a chance he will have to have seasonending surgery.

At best, Green said, Brown — who has struggled all season — will have to sit out three to four weeks.

As for Brown’s replacement, Green said he is keeping his options open. Because he hasn’t shown much confidence in backups Adam Haayer or Jeremy Bridges, Green may think about moving center Alex Stepanovich to guard — where Stepanovich played some in college — and using Nick Leckey at center.

Leckey was the starting center in camp after Stepanovich broke his hand, before Leckey suffered an ankle injury.

Q OK

Since his injury is the big story of the week, receiver Anquan Boldin was interviewed Wednesday by TV star Anquan Boldin for Boldin’s weekly "Q-Tip" segment for the team’s in-house show. Boldin was shot asking and answering questions while teammate Bryant Johnson switched baseball caps with Boldin and played the "listening" Boldin in each shot.

Boldin said doctors estimate his absence with a right knee bone bruise at two to four weeks, although Green said he is optimistic Boldin will be back before a month passes.

EXTRA POINTS
Tackle Oliver Ross (hand) will be back in the starting lineup, Green said. . . .

LeRon McCoy and the newly resigned Reggie Newhouse will split third receiver duties behind Larry Fitzgerald and Bryant Johnson with Boldin out. . . .

Besides Boldin and Brown, sitting out practice Wednesday were kick returner Reggie Swinton (toe), linebacker Lance Mitchell (knee), linebacker Karlos Dansby (knees), tight end Teyo Johnson (shin) and defensive end Chike Okeafor (wrist).

Dockett also said there are times he prefers to play on the road instead of Sun Devil Stadium.

Why would he think that? The yells are just as loud for the Cards opponents in Sun Devil as they are on the road.

Darnell needs to come visit some of us on Monday so he can hear us try to talk after a Sunday afternoon at Sun Devil. Hell, sometimes I still sound like I have Laryngitis on Tuesdays after a home game.

Dockett is starting to get on my nerves.

It is really pretty simple, dont play crappy dont get the boo's. Play good get the cheers. It has nothing to do with effort and everything to do with results.

We are one big family... it just so happens that most of this "family" is paying their hard earned money to watch the rest of the "family" play a game, get paid millions and suck at the game they're playing.

It's simple, Darnell...start WINNING and earning those millions and ya don't get booed. What are fans supposed to do when you continually suck...cheer? Dockett's an idiot. This isn't Dr. Phil, ya don't get cheered for 'effort'..ya get cheered for winning.

It amazes me, the same guys that hold out and say 'this is a business' and then turn it around and wanna be praised for their 'efforts'..and I know Dockett didn't hold out, just making a point.

I think every player except Berry and Dansby are sucking wind on the field and in the stat book vs last year.

Step it up...

I'd boo the defense, too, but I've moved beyond booing to apathy.

They'd save some marketing money if they just used "Same Old Cardinals" as their motto every year.

In a way I agree with Dockett. The fans should get behind their team. We all know that they need all the help they can get.

I don't boo very often. The only time I have ever booed the Cardinals is when it appears that they have given up.

Everyone has the right to boo. However I think true Cardinal fans stick behind their team when the going gets tough.

I never liked booing your own team. It's not like it will make the players play any better. At the same time I can understand why some do. It is their way to voice their frustration.

My point to Darnell would be... hey be happy that there are fans that care enough to even show up. If you want to call out someone.. call out the people who aren't there.

what kind of (expletive) is your drop off in play?!

what the (expletive) is 90+ years of losing

what the (expletive) is playing over a decade in a run down college stadium in 100+ degree heat

the fans that actually show up to games arent' the problems ... they are the true die hard fans and they are frusterated like everyone else ... they put up with incredible conditions to go out and support a product that has traditionally not been that good

don't blame the fans for the product on the field and your performance on the field ... "we lost by 20 because the crowd wasn't loud enough" is a horrible f'ing attitude

and if you are so much more comfortable playing away games, why don't you try winning a couple more of those?!

:stupid:

I never boo them, no matter how badly the've played. I don't see what good it does. If anything, it prolly demoralizes them.

At least we care enough to boo. I guess when we are getting our butts kicked Sunday I'll just sit there and talk about how nice of a day it is.

Is it just me, or do comments like this make you think Dockett wants out?? It's the curse of my buying that player's jersey. Every year I buy a players jersey, they have a bad year the next year, and then leave the team.

I'm not a fan of booing...but what I dislike even more is professional athletes complaining and whining about their fans. They are lucky to have any that show up.

Way to dwell on the negative. The crowd was in the game the whole time against Tennessee. My section stood from Halftime until the end of the game. Everytime Dockett asked for crowd noise he got it........

I could see this gripe if he were still in college......but he's a professional athlete....toughen up the skin.

QUIT SUCKING and the booing will take care of itself.

Darnell has been here one year and I have been watching this mess for 60 years. If I was there I would have jumped off the upper deck if there is one. Hope Darnell never gets to play for a bad Eagle or Giants team and he would learn the real meaning of boo. They eat there young in Philly and NYC. Of course, I still remember our fans cheering when our QB got hurt on a play and Jake came in. That was a bit much. Booing is a part of professional sports for any team that is not performing. If I got paid millions I would let the fans beat me with a whip after the game. Now get out there and play like you can Darnell and the booing will take care of itself.

Booing by the fans sure beats not showing up and buying tickets. I had more fun flying over North Vietnam than watching some of these games and that is no bull.

If that's the case then go buy a Ross jersey tonight. :)

Guys on this board are probably the best fans the Cards have ever had. Guys have been supporting this team for 60 years and beyond and we keep coming back for more. Cheering for a team that is playing the way we play would make us look like idiots. I suspect booing gets the attention of the owners who have the power to make things better. I live in Little Rock but have spent thousands of dollars in Direct TV, Big Screen, hats, and all the other stuff. I may be the only Cardinal fan in the entire state. Before Steve Little died we actually had radio broadcast of Cards games just because Little was on the team. I had a few drinks with Steve from time to time after his accident. He really was drinking a lot. I assume the Cards built his home which would accommodate someone in his condition. He lived with his brother and of course died young some years ago. Was he not a first round pick by the Cards? One of the few first round kickers I can recall.

I sure hope we stay away from system OLinemen this year. I thought Ross would be an earth mover. Just goes to show what proper coaching can do for a line. Look at Pittsburgh and Denver, they just plug pieces in.
