Dockett must not have liked the negotiations that took place today

What probably happened is that the Cardinals consider the $3.25M he counts against this year's cap as part of his 2015 salary and likely offered him another $1.75M = $5M. Then they showed him the metrics of what 34 year old DTs are making and at $5M that has to be near or at the top of the salary scale. MJ mentioned DT Kevin Williams at 34 last year playing for $2M with the Seahawks.

Dockett and Drew Rosenhaus probably didn't consider the $3.25M a part of his 2015 contract and thus felt insulted by a mere $1.75M offer.

Some general thoughts:

1. He's not coming back. He's had an up-and-down relationship with the team the past 5 years. I also wouldn't be surprised if he joined a bad team like the Raiders just for a fat paycheck.

2. We were fine without him last season, and we'll be fine without him moving forward. The depth on the line is very solid.

3. His leadership will be missed, but fortunately, the defense has others like Calais who can step up and fill that role.

4. I fully expect Tommy Kelly to be re-signed now.

5. With $14mil of cap space, I fully expect the team to be aggressive in free agency

I agree that we did OK last year without him but I do not think the depth on the line is "solid". No Dan Williams, No Dockett, Kelly is not signed. Other than CC, who do we have to count on? I liked what Frostee did but question how productive he will be again as a full timer.

Per MJ the Cardinals encouraged Drew Rosenhaus to see what the market is for Darnell Dockett while at the Combine.

Today's release of Dockett may suggest that Rosenhaus has found a deal with another team that he and Dockett like.

The Cardinals deserve some credit here for giving Dockett the respect of letting him work the market before free agency begins. They could have strung him along in hopes of keeping him at a reduced base salary, but they gave him the freedom to do what's best for him at the best possible time for him, if indeed Rosenhaus has a deal on the table with a team and the salary that Dockett likes.

CC, Frostee, and Ed Stinson make our line solid. I'm also expecting Martin to be productive. If we re-sign Kelly, that'll add depth. I also expect 1-2 FAs to be signed.

We'll be just fine.

Proves my point. Martin showed nothing last year. Frostee was good but he is not an every down guy at this stage. Stinson was hurt and is raw. Mauro was a mid season add if I remember correctly. Not anything I would consider solid

This reminds me of what people on this board were saying last year about the RB position. I was afraid we were too thin but everyone kept saying we would be fine, "We had Ellington, Dwyer, Taylor, Hughes,etc..." How did that work out?

Bowles would be set with his playbook knowledge and leadership. Him and cro makes that defense play better faster.

Hope he comes back instead.

Yep. He really is a simple, simple man to figure out. There isn't a lot of surface to scratch beneath with DD. His pride most definitely will get in the way.
Nobody is simple. Just saying. Everyone has multiple layers and even though I find a particular dislike for humans in general, most of them are quite complicated and textured.

Which pisses me off frankly, I'd like to put them all in nice neat boxes of suckage.

Yup, while we are talking about Dockett, he is probably reading Shakespeare and kicking a Russian champion in chess... while a stripper feeds his pet tiger lol

Apples and oranges.

First, who predicted that Ellington would be playing with a foot injury that forced him to miss two practices per week and limit is production, and that Dwyer would beat his woman and kid?

Second, we haven't even approached free agency or the draft, so the opportunities to build upon our d-line are there. You can get anxious if this is the corp that we're fielding come September, but that's not the case. It's still February.

Lol. The Tiger was proven to be fake. It's not a fake picture, but it's not his.

Without even referring to him, what we put out publicly, in this age of Facebook and Twitter and Google plus, even just for regular Joes, isn't who we are. Obviously.

Even before the social media aspect, we all put on masks. In public, as soon as we leave the house. We're one thing to one person, another thing to another person. But we're never ourselves in public, not the person we are at home when it gets real.

Everyone conforms, in some sense, to what is acceptable and desired in public.

At home and in private all our realness comes out. All our ugliness. Our quirks and disgust, our manipulations, our laziness, our procrastination and gossip and pettiness.

Humans are ugly, inside, at their core. We just put on a mask of fakeness each day so that we can be fake with other fake ugly people. We do it to survive and feed our families.

Let's not pretend like Dockett is any worse than any average dude. He's just better at it.

There is a thing some call the "Patriot Way" and how they handle business. Letting a player leave a year too soon rather than a year too late. DD maybe is one of those decisions that is a calculated risk that you get maybe one more year but the player wants 2 or 3 or more?

Not sure but I can't blast the Cardinals for this move. They didn't string him along and let him go early enough to find his "better" deal.

Good luck 9-0, I'll always appreciate your great run here.

I not saying he's not complex. The man just has no filter. He's more than happy to speak his mind, so there is no need to guess with him.
