Dockett must not have liked the negotiations that took place today

Its Rosenhaus, of course it's going to be difficult.

Drew has been relatively quiet lately. Far cry from his T.O. days. Plus, he's not negotiating from an area of leverage. The value of a diminishing 34-year-old lineman coming off of a torn ACL is minuscule.

Like Fitz, however, Dockett will get the most from AZ, and I think Drew knows that.

Players getting a ton of money need to keep their mouth shut about another player's future... when they have put a dent in the team's cap space lol

Yeah but it's a thin line to walk, he also needs to show public support for a teammate. He should have just left off the "bs" part of his comment.

Team president Michael Bidwill said that cap hit put him in the same boat as Fitzgerald, who also joined the team in 2014.

“We drafted him in the same class as Fitz; I’d love to have him retire as a Cardinal, I think that’s what he needs to do is stay in a Cardinal uniform and we’re looking forward to working with him to restructure his deal,” Bidwill said, via ArizonaSports.com. “It’ll free up some cap space so we can be out there, being aggressive and building a team and getting a ring on his finger.”

I think what I love most about the comments from MB is that they don't just seem like lip service, the way other owner's comments do. I really feel that he wants players like Fitz and Dockett in the Cardinal family for life...beyond their playing days.

Yes MB looks very good person and really involved and passionate but in the same time kniws that this is business and when is time to move on he does

yep

Darren Urban @Cardschatter
#AZCardinals officially cut DT Darnell Dockett. Gain $6.8M of cap room. Dockett gets chance to see market value. Door not closed for return
.

Kent Somers @kentsomers
#azcardinals release Darnell Dockett today. They want him back, but allowing him to test the market.

Hopefully they can re-sign him to a new deal but im not that optimistic

He's not going to get on the open market what he thinks he's worth. Yes he's been good for us but not great. He's a solid player and a fine leader but I think he buys into his own hype. Also, IMO, cutting him pretty much tells us that we're going to go after an edge rusher in free agency. I'd like to see him come back but at a severely reduced price. Chances are he didn't want to renegotiate a deal similar to Fitz's and wants to test the market. I love the guy but I think he's going to be disappointed in the offers he's going to get. Not many teams pencil in a slightly above average, aging defensive end coming off of an ACL injury who's numbers haven't been that impressive since 2011. I wish him well wherever he ends up.

Bummed but I understand. Good luck Nine O. Just don't sign with an NFC West team please.

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if he gives us on opportunity to match whatever he can get.

That said, Keim cut him, and must be prepared to move on. Dumpster Dan and Tommy kelly did a good job. We missed Dockett's penetration but we did more then okay without him.

He deserves to retire a Cardinal, so I hope he comes back.

I highly doubt he returns. Usually, these "we'll cut you, but come back with an offer and we'll reconsider" moments don't end well for the team. Plus, he wasn't exactly please when Bowles took the HC job in NY.

Would be surprised if he returns, especially if he garners interest from the Dolphins, Jags, Falcons, Panthers, Titans or Bucs. That way he can stay close to his Florida home at this point in his career.

Obviously, Darnell Dockett is unique---there is no other Cardinal quite like him. He made the Birdgang famous and he brought tremendous passion to the team and the organization. He was one of the big ANSWERs to the solution and one of the main reasons why the Cardinals are where they are today. I hope you find a way to return to AZ, 9-0. But, if you don't I will always honor your commitment to the Cardinals and the fierce way in which you played the game.

No doubt in my mind that he will take this personally ("How dare the Cards be disloyal to me"). He won't be back, even if we do match/surpass the highest bidder in FA.

Sucks he was released but at least they may take him back if he doesn't get what he think he's worth.

Some general thoughts:

1. He's not coming back. He's had an up-and-down relationship with the team the past 5 years. I also wouldn't be surprised if he joined a bad team like the Raiders just for a fat paycheck.

2. We were fine without him last season, and we'll be fine without him moving forward. The depth on the line is very solid.

3. His leadership will be missed, but fortunately, the defense has others like Calais who can step up and fill that role.

4. I fully expect Tommy Kelly to be re-signed now.

5. With $14mil of cap space, I fully expect the team to be aggressive in free agency

Pay Dan Williams now.

Dockett at this point is more of a mascot than a player now. That must be hard to come to terms with
