That was a crazy All-Star Game. Now the focus can be on the second 'half' of the season. What do ya know, the second-place Dodgers are coming to town. By Sunday night, the D-backs could be either four games ahead, two games ahead, tied for first, or two games behind. The only way any of these teams ends the weekend over .500 is if the D-backs sweep and you know who would have the winning record. LA will be without closer Takashi Saito. Now for the obligatory preview to kick off the thread for this important series...

Friday - Kuroda vs. Davis

Kuroda flirted with a perfect game against Atlanta two weeks ago. He has rebounded from a rough June, by going 2-0 with a 1.19 ERA in July. If he stays hot, the D-backs could be in for a long night. Davis has allowed three runs in each of his last four starts. Lefthanded hitters are hitting Davis better than righthanders, but his ERA against lefties is much lower than against righthanders. I expect him to allow, what else, three runs!

Saturday - Billingsley vs. Haren

Two of Billingsley's eight losses this year were to the D-backs back in April. Since then, he has corrected and has even gone 5-1 in his last six starts. He struck out 13 Marlins in seven innings last Sunday. Billingsley, who was not selected to the All-Star Game, has struck out almost ten batters per nine innings and is second in the Majors with 128 K's as of the All-Star Break. Haren may fall victim to poor run support again, especially if Billingsley is on his game. The All-Star's ERA in June and July is 1.45 and he has averaged almost one strikeout per inning in that timeframe. We should see a pitcher's duel on Bob Melvin bobblehead night.

Sunday - Lowe vs. Webb

Lowe was the second Dodger pitcher to flirt with throwing a perfecto against Atlanta this month. He will be pitching on ten days rest and has won his last two starts. Lowe had a rotten May, losing four games. He has not pitched a complete game this year, but only needed five innings to defeat the D-backs in an April game. The Major League win leader, Webb, will be pitching in the air-conditioned comfort of Chase Field after a pair of muggy east coast games. Webb will be searching for his tenth carrer victory over the Dodgers and as long as Chad Qualls does not leave the bullpen, his chances of getting it greatly increase. Expect the man with the killer sinker wearing Sunday Sedona Red to be ready to go, even after pitching an emergency inning of relief in the All-Star Game's 14th inning.

Well, we need this series. Maybe the all-star break gave everyone some time to think about what is needed and now we can get down to business. This is a talented time. Just got in a very disturbing and weird funk that hopefully we are now out of.

Huge series. We need at least 2, preferably a sweep.

Alright time to make a statment to the rest of the division by winning this series vs the dodgers we certinally have the pitching rotation with our top 3 going vs them, but it all depends on if the offense decides to show up which has well you all know been a rarity these past few months. But these would be huge 3 games to take right after the all star break GO DBACKS

Two very good series to start out the push for the playoffs. Making them doubly difficult will be the huge contingents of Dodger and Flubs fans making it seem like away series for us.

The Az Republic and Mark Grace will, no doubt, make the flubs feel very welcome.

Meanwhile, we first face the Dodgers. Lose 2 of 3 or worse and the season may truly be headed permanently in the wrong direction.

I'm ready.

Glad the All-Star crap is over. I never watch any of those idiotic things in any sport.

It's nice that we have both Haren and Webb pitching in this series... We should win these two. A sweep would be great, but I seriously doubt it.

This homestand is very big because the next roadtrip is huge as the Diamondbacks play at SF, SD and LA.

wow 7-5 bottom of the third talk about a wacky start lol davis nor Kuroda pitching all that well, if we find a way to hang on and win this game it would be huge. I love the way the offense is looking this game full of energy and the hitting is clicking :)

god what a horrible way to start after the all star break losing a 11 inning game at home so disapointed right now.... we had our chances but failed like usual to bring them in when it matters. Well maybe we can take the next two games with Webb and Haren :(

I wasn't at the game, but I can imagine the LA fans after they took the 3-0 lead. The D-backs shut them up for a while, but nomahhhhh screwed things up. I'm too mad to comment about the rest of that game. I will be at Saturday's game. I can't stand Dodger fans. :jedi:
The D-backs must not let that team come in here and take the division lead away! SCREW DODGER BLUE!

The D'backs and Dodgers seem to be having similar problems throughout the season.

Except for a couple of things. The Dodgers young players are progressing more satisfactorily than our young players.

And, the typical stat from last night's game. LOB - D'backs-11, Dodgers-6.

One of the teams seems to have heart and enthusiasm. Which one is it, BoMel? :bigyawn:

In the big inning . . . heaven and earth.

The Diamondbacks need to stop taking the Bible so literally.

In the big inning . . . the team is padding it's offensive stats.

Recently it's been one inning here and there. Last night it was 4 in the 1st, then 2 in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd.

The next 8 innings -- zippo.

One word can lump the D'backs scoring and its nightly batting orders -- inconsist.

When we loaded the bases, with only one out and failed to score, I knew it was over.

Am I the only one who's glad our lefthanded "specialist" is hurt? The guy never seems to retire the one critical batter he's brought in erase.

Still, win the next two and we are okay. My opinion is LA's offensive problems will continue all season. Or maybe I'm deluding myself.

5 PM tonight for game 2. I'm ready.

what a crazy game how much of a fairy tale story would it have been if tony won us the game with a homer. davis unfortunately didnt do to well and nomar killed us and loney with the game winner. by the way i would be very amazed if someone hit the target for the gas promotion. we need these two games with haren and webb going.

I guess we should just resign ourselves to the fact that this team will find myriad ways not to score when it should, for the remainder of the season.

With no need to apportion blame anymore, since we all know the factors and the culprits, we just need to hold off the Dodgers and make the playoffs. Anything is possible there.

It was a relief, not a celebration, to hold on and win tonight. I'll take it.

Looking forward to tomorrow.
