All this talk about Boldin made me realize that I have never heard any dollar amount mentioned as to what it would take to make Q a happy camper.
What if we extended him 1 year with a 5m roster bonus this year( in additin to his 2.5 mil due this year), a roster bonus of 6 mil next year (in addition to his 2.5 mil due) and a 3rd year of 8 mil ?
That would be a one year extension with 19 mil in new money?
IMO, this seems to be the best scenario.
A. Q gets the money he wants this year guaranteed.
B. If the Cards want to cut him he would be a free agent or if they wanted to trade him next year he would have a contract in place that would be somewhat friendly to any interested parties.
This kind of offer would pay him around 8 m a year without totally strapping our cap.
Am I nuts or is this a fair deal. Maybe the better question is would this be enough to make Boldin happy?
One thing is for sure, nothing is going to happen until Saturday. If Q is traded we will go one way. If he stays, this situation will need to be addressed. It can't stay status quo.
