Mark Grace has made some strong comments about Curt in the past few weeks. Mark said that Curt would try and make other pitchers like throw like him and eventually that hurt those pitchers. I can't remember the one particular pitcher he was talking about a few weeks ago but said that pitcher was never the same.

Tonight Randy was talking with Fossum and Grace brings up Curt would just tell the pitchers what to do. After hearing him talk about Curt it seems like maybe he was not the best of friends with him. I may be wrong but that is how I perceived it.

I think history has shown that Curt wasn't exactly the best teammate...not that he was a jerk per se but he was the anti-Grace. I wouldn;t be shocked if Grace doesn;t have him on his Christmas card list

Can't be THAT gooda friends. Grace was the D'backs player being quoted in the papers around the time that the first rumors of Curt's possible coming deal with the Red Sox... and Gracie flatly said that Curt would NEVER go to the Red Sox and HE should know since he had just talked with him. Curt knows who to tell rumors to if he wants them spread...

Tact has never been Curt's strong point, though I think he's better than he used to be. He was pretty brutal to some of his Phillies' teammates. One story that gets told is how he introduced Randy Wolf to his son Gehrig. Curt asked Gehrig "Can you say one pitch pitcher?" Ouch. BTW, Curt's evaluation of Randy Wolf's abilities wasn't too hot either.

Honestly, I'm amazed Schilling's ego has aloud him to be successful on not one but two different teams with equal or greater pitchers to himself on the same staff.

I can easily see how him and Grace wouldn't see eye to eye.

I believe he was talking about Brian Anderson. I see nothing wrong with him trying to help his teammates....Brian should know he can't pitch like Schilling - different styles.

It was BA, I believe you're right - and I recall Curt saying that BA'd had so many people give him so much conflicting advice and direction in the past couple years that Brian needed to decide for himself what to listen to and screen out the rest. BA was a flailing starter well before Curt ever came along. He'd fit right in to our current rotation. Every year it was "potential, potential, when will he get it together?" Not everyone does ever get it together.

Curt tried to set up a computer video library for BA like he had for himself - but while being a bit more organized in approach might have helped BA, not sure that was a method that suited him.

I don't think it's necessary to 'blame' Curt for being brash and extroverted just because RJ and Pedro are very private, introverted, controlled men. Different style. They are often dissed (just as unfairly) for being cold, aloof, even rude - Schilling gets ripped for being the exact opposite, a 'shoot first, aim later,' gregarious type of guy.

Not that Grace would know anything about having a big mouth. Grace only likes Yankees now, anyhow - of course he'd be down on a Red Sox star. Talk about swallowing.

I had heard that Curt was trying to show Brian Anderson how to throw his splitter and help him prepare for the games. I guess he went out and had his audio/visual guy break down all of BA's pitches he had ever thrown and put it on a brand new laptop on Curt's dime. BA never picked it up.... Not everybody learns the same way, I don't fault him he did work quite extensively with Schilling...

Just curious as to what the part about 'Grace only likes the Yankees now' means.

It was either yesterday or the day before when Grace (on air) said how he would have loved to ohave been on either a Yankees team or a Red Sox team so he could experience what it felt like to be in that heated rivalry. I didn't hear him say anything remotely negative about the Sox, in that regard.

What have you heard him say that would make you think he only likes the Yankees now?

Man, how could he like the Yankees at ALL.. ugh! lol
