Does Kata make Spivey expendable?

Just wondering if the D'backs moved Spivey would Kata do as well or better? Would you object to the move?

Good question. But, I think Spivey is the real deal.

Kata has been amazing.

You go out and find positions for these guys.

I'm totally baffled as to what management is going to do with this unexpected surplus of quality major league talent.

Whoever said the DBack farm system lags knows nothing.

I posted in another thread that I thought Spivey would be the headline guy in a trade, with Counsell, Kata, Baerga, Cintron all being able to play 2nd. Spivey is expenable, I hate the idea of moving a guy we brought up through our system, but we are seriously logjammed in the infield.

Kata certainly looks like the real deal at second, but Spivey is also worth hanging on to... I still look for the D'backs to try Junior in RF, if not this year... over the winter and ST

i wouldnt mind trying Junior in the OF. Its easy to say that Kata will not hit like this all year (and he definately wont be a .380 hitter) but i believe he can be a solid .300 hitter with solid power. Hes hitting to all fields, and hitting line drives, not bloops. HIs first 3 or 4 ABS tonight he hit the ball right on the nose.

This team is looking for an everyday rightfielder and moving Jr there would solve alot of problems. It's better that a guy go through spring training and get used to a new position but, Jr has already played centerfield this year, and I think he could handle it just fine. It seems crazy to me to move Kata with the year he is having. He is a good leadoff hitter with an OB of over 450. I think Grace and Mike Myers are dead weight and need to be cut to free up roster spots. If this team sends Kata and Hammock to Tucson to free up roster spots, they will be making a big mistake .

I like Grace for his presence but not for his bat anymore. It will be interesting to see if the Diamondbacks put Grace on the DL when some of the other guys come around. Mark is barely hitting 200 and you can see he is struggling. I wonder if he feels like Matt did? It's hard to watch an athlete who had a great career keep playing when he is past his prime. You see the video of stars like Mays, Unitas and Ali trying to perform but their bodies say no. I hope the best for Grace and I believe he would make a perfect coach.

That's a good suggestion . . . I hope it's this year. Junior could share time with Dellucci in RF. As much as I like 'Q', perhaps he could help another team for the rest of the season. I like Danny Bautista, too, but can he come back this year? 'Not sure!

To send Kata and Hammock down would be a huge mistake. The main reason -- because we NEED them!

It's nice to have a lineup which a bunch of .300 hitters. Just ask Brandon Webb! Now his W-L record is starting to match his ERA.

Anybody know if Kata or Hammock have the arm to play right field? Hammock has seemed to fill in the Greg Colbrunn role nicely, Hope he can keep it up. I don't envy Joe Jr. and Brenley for the decisions that have to be made soon!
THis run has been great fun. I was just hoping they could finsh the season .500, now I think they have a legitimate chance at the playoffs.
Unfortunately, the phillies and giants seem to be playing as well, if not better (better competition the last 2 weeks) than the dbacks. But if we keep winning series, we will get our shot.

As far as trades with Spivey, How about Junior and Overbay for Richie Sexson. He still strikes out 25% of the time, but he does have a lot of power with a right handed bat. Although, I don't know why the Brewers would do it, his salary is not that much in today's market ($5 million).

Hammock actually has an above average arm for 3B from what I see....I don't know how that equates into an outfield arm.

another point on the Kata/Spivey debate.....Kata is a switch hitter and has hit 2 homers from each side of the plate in his limited playing time.

Hammock can play right field and has already played 4 or 5 games for us there. Id still like to see him behind theplate some, but then we would have to play Q in right, and that is definately not our best offensive lineup.

What do you think of moving Jr to rightfield and keeping Kata at second and leading off?

id at least give it a try. Kata is showing a decent eye right now and some pop. He has 8 walks to his 14 strikeouts, which is more then what i would expect from him from his minor league numbers. Also, since im looking at the stats, it seemed like Alex Cintron had been in a serious decline, but he still has an OPS of .840

It seems like Alex is a little tired right now, his bat speed has slowed down. Counsell should be activated any day, (tomorrow?) so he can spell Alex at short. Getting Counsell back can only help this team. Raggio probably goes when Prinz comes back, (tomorrow also?) and Hammock probably goes when Counsell comes back, unless somebody else goes on the DL. The D-Backs will probably keep 4 outfielders on the roster until Bautista comes back, which should be later in the week. What will they do when Danny comes back? Mark Grace to get a mysterious injury like Scott Bordow suggested? I love Grace but, he is just taking up a spot that we can't afford.
