If he doesn't start, he needs to at least be the #2 with Anderson on a short leash. Wish I could have watched the game today instead of just getting updates: I'm very curious to see him in action.

Tonight,....I will make blood sacrifice to the football Gods that not a single Quarterback on our roster shows any promise this season.
Because we all know as Cards fans, if they show promise, the team will draft a lineman, and next year will be the same as this,....and then the year after, and the year after,...then the team will use a third round pick on that kid from ASU,...then five more years of mediocrity.........
If the football gods be appeased by my sacrifice, we suck it up the rest of the year as expected,...and a small amount of divine influence pushes us to draft a legitimate NFL QB this spring.
I was gonna use a chicken,...but for some reason a GOAT feels more appropriate,....any suggestions?

A human sacrifice seems a little harsh, but if it weren't I'd suggest Davis, DA, Grimm, Graves...take your pick.

don't cut yourself

Yeah, I didn't hear the presser, I was just guessing from some of the camera shots I saw of him on the sideline.

He wasn't laughing on the sideline so something must be wrong :D

Completely agree, they HAVE to start Skelton so they know what they have to focus on in the draft. QB or not.

Find out what you have then go from there. I'm not opposed to drafting a QB regardless of Skelton's potential. I just want to get a better idea of what he can do and if he does look good then we aren't FORCED to take a QB.

I feel bad for Skelton. Seriously, he should have been given a chance to be the QB before an undrafted rookie like Max Hall.

He looked good in there for the brief time he got to play.

Given all of the reps and the support of the coaching staff I think he'll surprise a lot of people.

I have no idea why they've been bringing him along so slowly... On the postgame show on 92.3 they kept mentioning that he has only had 8 reps with the first team offense all season.

Don't be surprised at all if DA starts next week. I don't think he was benched, I think he was showing concussion like symptoms and that's why he was pulled.

If he does Start over Skelton it is then time to Call Uncle Louie, and Cousin Nunzeo...!!! Good bye Whisenhunt...!!! Time for you to move on to High School Head Coaching.

I know Hall is the one who was more NFL ready coming in to the league but of the 2 Skelton is the only one with any real upside. I can understand starting the season with him as the #3 but they should have been preparing him more for his chance to start. It should have been apparent early on that DA was not the long term answer and Hall, while being further along than Skelton as a rookie, was pretty much at his ceiling already.

Slow and Low. High heat on goat meat dries it out. Good eating though!

If nothing else Skelton showed some touch on his passes. That alone is a reason to watch him over DA.

It sure would give us another reason to watch the rest of the season. Might as well see what the kid has. I really don't expect a lot but he can't be that much worse than DA & Hall.

DA was booed rather loudly today, as was Max Hall. Skelton nearly got a standing ovation when people saw him warming up. There's no way that went unnoticed by the coaching staff and the front office. The fans want Skelton. Like you said, might as well play him, see what he's got and make the fans (somewhat) happy.

I thought he was very much himself. He was horrible as usual. :D

LOL! Nicely played.

With you 100, but when Hall was brought in, I thought we still had a team. I could go on with the gloomy but my point is....

If you want to play Skelton, run the ball, if Skelton struggles, run the ball. If Skelton does OK, run the ball. We do not have a QB, if we are going to groom homie, I am down with that.

But that means we aren't playing to win the rest of the year, we gotta deal with dat. We haven't been winning all year so I say start him, baby him.

We should have been doing this all year regardless of the QB. :bang:

Shrink the playbook but see what he's got. Its the only way to determine what if he has a future here or not.

Skelton came to the NFL from Fordham. That's a half-step faster than high school football.

Skelton was drafted on raw potential, but no way was he going to see the field early in the season. It'd be like taking a teenage twin-engine pilot and asking him to perform a military maneuver in an F-15. I suspect he's going to come out and make a lot of mistakes, but people will talk about his intangibles because he has a lot of those.

He showed accuracy and was able to recognize the blitz. Two things that have been drastically lacking in our QB play this season.

I'm willing to see a rookie QB make mistakes. Seeing a vet QB make the same mistakes over and over again was driving me (and I'm sure the rest of us) crazy

Everybody comes at us, I like the guy, but we all know there is a blitz coming every down.:)

EDIT: Skelton received the biggest cheer of the game, second biggest was when Hall came in. Those two events trumped any thing we did on the grass.

Evidently our other QBs don't. He saw the rush and got rid of the ball. It seems so small but it can be a big deal.

Its gotten to the point of why the Heck is DA even on our roster? Seriously he's just awful. Tom Tupa is a better Qb than him.

Skelton will come in and show enough promise to keep us from drafting a QB before the third and then he'll suck next year. Haven't you guys figured out how this works yet?

People will talk about his measurables too--size, arm strength, quick release. It is the mental aspect of the game that will make or break him, how fast he will be able to read defenses and things like that.

Skelton played same level as Warner - hardly just a half-step faster than HS...

One thing I really liked to see from Skelton, was his pre snap reads. He really took the time to look over the defensive formation and seemed to know where the rush was coming from and where the safeties were going to play. Pre snap reads were sorely lacking from DA and Hall.

yeah: but Warner had lots of various experience: a couple NFL camps and NFL europe -- before he was asked to start.

being from Fordham doesnt mean Skelton cant be good, it just means that it may take some time

from a very small sample set -- Skelton did show me more than expected

seemed a little like Roethlisburger in that he can throw flat footed yet the ball comes out with pace.

I thought of his six passes, he went to the right place on 4 of 6, completing 3.

This may actually benefit the offense overall in that they will likely simplify the playbook, which will help eliminate mistakes from everyone and they will have to protect Skelton with the playcalling, a la RUN the ball more.

I have my doubts about Whis as a playcaller though so just running "more" won't benefit the team if they aren't running and passing at opportunistic times. A rookie QB can force a coaching staff to focus on exploiting mismatches and becoming more unpredictable with their playcalling so the defense can't "sit" on what they know is coming.

We'll see. From what little we saw of Skelton, I'm really at a loss as to why he was deemed unfit to see the field when the two guys in front of him certainly aren't NFL caliber.

That's definitely my fear, because it's happened too often in the past. I like Skelton's upside, but if we have a shot at Luck, we had better draft him. I don't care how good Skelton looks in 4 meaningless games, he's still a longshot to make it in the NFL. All that being said, I'm excited to see Skelton play next week. Go back and watch Skelton highlights on You Tube. He has better mobility than people on this board give him credit for. I understand the difference between the Patriot League & the NFL, but the kid does have natural talent & instincts. DA has NO football instincts whatsoever.
