After ripping Hall apart, I would be interested to hear what Jaws says about Skelton. Did he see enough measurables out there to assess his potential? Probably too small of a sample size. I also hope he starts the rest of the year so we can figure out what we have in the guy.

All I know is I stood up when he completed that long pass to Fitz. In that one play, he displayed better arm strength than Hall and better touch than Anderson. Yes, it was one play, but it was the type of pass that's been lacking in our offense all season long.

Just after his short outing, I am wondering how so many college programs whiffed on this guy. How did no one from a meaningful football school offer him a full ride? He clearly had the tools that a good program could work with.

DA was booed rather loudly today, as was Max Hall. Skelton nearly got a standing ovation when people saw him warming up. There's no way that went unnoticed by the coaching staff and the front office. The fans want Skelton. Like you said, might as well play him, see what he's got and make the fans (somewhat) happy.

LOL! Nicely played.

To be fair. Max Hall got a near standing ovation when DA was benched. Then, when Hall throws an INT and his hurt, another near standing ovation occurred. It might be on of the few times in history the 3rd string QB gets a standing ovation. Most teams are scared out their damn mind when the 3rd QB goes in. lol.

I believe that Skelton now starts, as much by default as for any other reason

it seems DA possibly has a concussion and Hall (I bet) is done for the season.

As for the offense: the full offense has produced no TDs (of meaning) over the last three games. Would a run heavy offense really do any worse?

I think the team needs to come out in lots of two TE sets, lots of max and near max protections and go from there.

Skelton starting is the right move. It gives us a reason to watch with interest, and if the losses pile up the draft pick gets higher. Also, we need to see what he has because there's absolutely no reason not to have a good backup in this league. I'd rather it be a young Skelton in the #2 spot than going the Pennington route, for example.

I want more Skelton. I know we didnt see enough, by far, to make a decision but I felt a level of comfort just from his poise and posture in the pocket.

At this point, by starting Skelton the Cards have nothing to lose. If he struggles, he's a rookie from Fordham..what do you expect. If he shows promise, hey great move!

Hey San Diego drafted Rivers when they still had Drew Brees. In the unlikely event that Skelton shows something, I still draft a QB in the first, specially if Andrew Luck is there.

besides the fact that we moved up in the draft to get him, our other QB's are broken to bits from passing 75% of the time. and We to develope him as a back up for the next few years.

I have no hope whiz will protect him on the field like a rookie QB needs protected. maybe he already has off the field?

John has DA's skill sets and size, He has offseason, preseason and 12 games in the system. I'll be surprised if He out sucks DA and Hall.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/historical/1267818

Accuracy: Accurate enough to give his receiver a chance to make a play after the catch whether on a quick screen, out route, slant, fade or throw down the seam. Leads his man on slants and deep throws. Will aim the ball and feather it in instead of letting it loose.

Arm Strength: Throws 45-50-yard passes with little effort, but he rarely takes full advantage of his arm strength. Ball gets from hash to opposite sideline in a hurry when he steps into the throw. Good trajectory on deep passes, and the ball doesn't hang up. Inconsistent spiral, though the ball still has fair pace when it wobbles.

Setup/Release: Prototypical size and stands tall in the pocket. Waits patiently for routes to develop. Mostly in the shotgun when passing but will go under center on run plays and the occasional play-action. Release speed is not an issue whether in the pocket or on the run. Relies on his arm strength too much; will throw off back foot and into traffic. Throws from different arm angles and usually well-balanced. Could sell the ball fake more in play-action.

Reading Defenses: Knows the second and third progression, and is willing to throw underneath route if deep receiver is covered up. Will pick apart a defense if given time. Looks to the quick screen before checking out deep throw. Will not look off the safety or creeping corner consistently, resulting in interceptions. Trusts his receivers too much, throwing jump balls when unnecessary.

On the Move: Mobile for his size and able to throw accurately on the run in either direction. Squares his shoulders when throwing on the run. Will evade sacks from FCS defenders, but unclear whether he'll do so against better competition. Doesn't always get his eyes downfield when pressured in the pocket but does when outside. Mobility leads him to leave the pocket too quickly at times. Agile enough to get first downs when scrambling or running the read option, but not quick enough to run for more than a few yards and lacks elusiveness in the open field. Lowers his head for a first down if sideline isn't available and can slide if possible. Good size for the sneak.

Intangibles: Two-year captain who leads his offense on and off the field. Quiet with the media but vocal on the field. Has the work ethic and intelligence to become an NFL starter.

Tonight,....I will make blood sacrifice to the football Gods that not a single Quarterback on our roster shows any promise this season.
Because we all know as Cards fans, if they show promise, the team will draft a lineman, and next year will be the same as this,....and then the year after, and the year after,...then the team will use a third round pick on that kid from ASU,...then five more years of mediocrity.........
If the football gods be appeased by my sacrifice, we suck it up the rest of the year as expected,...and a small amount of divine influence pushes us to draft a legitimate NFL QB this spring.
I was gonna use a chicken,...but for some reason a GOAT feels more appropriate,....any suggestions?

While I agree with your plan-----I was thinking more in terms of an elephant for the sacrifice. We will need something really big in my estimation.

one of my greatest fears is that Skelton succeeds...just enough................. but in the long run it will not matter because if we get a QB with enough brain to think for himself,... short bus will run him off..
Does anyone else find it scary that an "Engineer" thinks he can recognize intangibles?? When the epitomy of engineering is working within all known quantities, facts, consistent data........ not, "well, my gut tells me this girder will support the bridge, it just feels special"

Did you really just go the engineer route?

Skelton:

“I was about as nervous as a third-string quarterback going into his first-game action could be,” Skelton said. “Nothing overwhelming or anything.”

That's awesome!

Hopefully we see our best QB play all year with Skelton. He started better than Hall. Can't be worse than DA, but who knows. I am so done with Anderson, he makes the game so much worse to watch. Go Skelton. :)

In the post game interview with the KTAR guy, Skelton took the full blame for the sack he took and the intentional grounding call.

I liked that he just stated he made the error and didn't try to blame it on the wind or the roof being open or the sun in his face.

:D

Yeah. Someone on here made a great point, if Skelton makes silly errors we can look beyond them because he's a rookie. He didn't get into Fordham by being an idiot. A 5th year vet making these mistakes is inexcusable.

The scary thing is Wiz might be hardheaded enough to start DA...again if healthy!!!:bang::bang::bang: And I will refuse to watch his stinkyness again.

If Skelton wins 4 in a row Whiz needs to go.

All I read from Whiz is how Anderson has the ability to be good and that he knows for sure that Skelton isnt ready.

I just did the poll question on the Cards home page, whether to start Skelton.

95% of the fans want him to start, I am surprised by that number, holy cow.

You want to sacrifice Jerry Rice? That's a little harsh, we shouldn't tarnish his reputation by dragging him into this mess.

Elephants are endangered, oaken could do some serious jail time. He needs to sacrifice something that no one likes, like a lawyer or a Cowboy.
