What the actual hell?! I have a nice night out from the family, comeback and wham!

Two things. This might be one of the worst trades I have ever seen. The Mavs got back an often injured Davis with a huge contract and only that set of picks for a generation player?

Second, there has to be more to this. They were concerned about his conditioning? Look, he has some issues but it’s freaking Luka. There had to be some issues behind the scene with him being toxic. Which is not hard to believe from what we have seen on the court.

I lied. One more thing. Naturally it’s the Lakers that get him. Total bull.

Yeah, even as a fat tub, he's a top 5 player in the league. Davis is just as unreliable as Luka and he's much older.

Bonkers.

I think this shows who the new Mavs owners are because there's no way Mark Cuban would make this deal. I think they sold within the last 2-3 years.

Luka in LA could be a real disaster. If he's distracted in Dallas then he won't survive LaLaLand.

He obviously has warts, to actually win a title with him you're going to need a lot of very specific type players... dudes that bust their butts, play great D and are not divas... they can't be selfish because when Luka is out there they are hardly going to see the ball. And everytime they screw up, or even when Luka falls asleep on D, Luka is going to yell at them. He's also going to scream at the refs, even when he is getting every call in his favor, because he's just a prick.

On the other side... a Luka team has a really high floor. He can miss 20 or 30 games and your team is probably still going to make the playoffs, even if he is fat as a pig. He is just so good at running an offense that his teams are a virtual lock be a top 10 offense.

Of the top 5 or 10 guys in the NBA, he probably has the most red flags, but he's also the 2nd best offensive player in basketball after Jokic.

I figured the Lakers would have a couple years while LeBron and Durant dried up before they got any kind of relivence again, but now, unless Luka just keeps gaining weight exponentially, they are always going to be in the conversation.

Every like 6 years one of the best players in basketball just falls into their lap for a song... it is revolting. Dumb luck via geogrophy and history.

Dallas writer Tim McMahon is reporting that Luka has shot up to nearly 270 pounds.

I think we’re going to hear a lot of really ugly Dončić stories over the next few days.
If he was 570 and diagnosed with terminal cancer then maybe this deal would make sense.

Dallas could have gotten all 14 of okc’s picks. Instead they settle for a career underachiever with a bad injury history? What???

You think this is luck for the lakers! You are extreemly gullible. This is the most fixed deal of all time.

Nice trade.

AD is playing out of his mind this season but he is so fragile he could go down for a long stretch of games at any time.

Going to be interesting to see how Luka fits in. We definitely got the better end of the deal considering his age.

LeBron still playing great despite his age. Nice young cast of players on the roster, too. AR, Rui, Knecht, Hayes, Reddish, Vanderbilt, etc.

Let’s go !!

Must be nice to have the NBA behind the scenes fixing things for your team huh?

This deal really makes it clear the nba will never let a small market team truly succeed.

That trade had been rumored for nearly a year before it happened though. This was out of nowhere.
Not actually. Doncic has been known to be the Lakers target for a couple seasons now to replace LeBron when he leaves. Just surprised it happened this soon. Laker fans are surprised but not shocked.

It definitely provides some excitement for the Lakers future.

I'm glad for you, Brian.

Call me crazy, I don't see this being all that lopsided. AD, if healthy, makes the Mavs more of a contender that can run J-Kidd's desired system on both sides of the ball. The Lakers could regret this if Luka doesn't get his health in check and clearly the Mavericks don't think he will.

As to why this was "completed in the shadows", has no one paid attention to the Butler fiasco? We have one here with Beal also. I know they aren't Luka but when a star player is on the market, the more wrenches get thrown into the wheelhouse. Those players make ridiculous demands, lowering their value. You almost need to pull off a big trade swiftly before the narrative of "X player is on the market" because the NBA isn't a real free market when there's cap restrictions, team chemistry, and player attitudes to contend with.

Dallas probably should have received an extra pick out of the deal but they couldn't afford for the trade to get stalled. It was almost the opposite of the KD deal in every way. No drama, no prolonged negotiations. They could have played chicken and not made a move but they see a window with Kyrie now, AD helps them maximize that. They wanted out of the Luka business altogether and sent his best friend with him also, Klieber.

I think LA hopes LeBron can push Luka but with Bronny in tow, LeBron's drive and focus are questionable. I won't be shocked if Dallas gets the last laugh here. I don't think there's a locker room big enough for LeBron and Luka's egos together.

If Anthony Davis stays healthy, but it's always been about this.

The Mavericks are loaded otherwise, but have a shorter window with Luka gone.

For the Lakers, they have their next decade star.

Amazing how stars keep falling in their lap.

I think Mavs have a real shot at competing over the next 2 years vs the Lakers who don't. The Lakers locked themselves into 50 & fade territory.

The Mavs should have taken all of the Lakers picks but ultimately those picks won't have much value since they'll be a play in team with Luka.

That only underscores their arrogance. To think they are entitled to one of the top 2 or 3 assets in the league that should not be available to any team says it all.

The mavs have no chance. AD is no team leader, this is New Orleans again but he is now much older and more broken down.

The lakers have a much younger top 3 player, even if they still lack the pieces around him this season, they soon will have them. If there is any team good players will sign cheap for it’s the lakers.

Suns should go after Kyrie now.

I doubt he will resign with the mavs now, and clearly mavs management are idiots.

They aren't counting on AD to lead. Luka wasn't a leader either and they made the finals. Their leader is on the sidelines, Kidd. It's up to Kyrie, AD, Gafford, Lively, and Washington to execute Kidd's vision. AD's health is an issue but so is Luka's conditioning so it's reasonable those closest to Luka decided he wouldn't turn it around. Gambling on AD makes it risky but it say something they viewed his health over Luka's. We've heard rumors about Luka's attitude and conditioning going back to before he was drafted.

The Lakers will win games but not playoff series until they can find people willing to be screamed at by Luka for not playing defense or passing him the ball. I don't see parades in LA's future. This improves their floor but puts a cap on their ceiling. It's showtime without a competitive drive.

I understand the Suns fan take here also. It's like watching the one who got away end up dating your step-brother who you hate. Best case for us, the Lukers become an unmanageable mess and the wheels fall off completely for AD in Dallas. This isn't hurting the Suns, who have their own mess.

Luka led with his play - he was 85% of their offense - and he is so good he can do that. Anthony Davis cannot remotely do that because he isn't 1/10th the passer Luka is.

You are a lunatic to actually think Dallas is better. I would actually argue the Lakers were better than Dallas will be. Dallas whole team was designed to support Luka other than Kyrie. They now have to many big men, and no point guard. Kyrie is really a two guard.

I understand Luka has some issues - but other than Jokic - nobody else can single handedly take over a game like he can.

I am seriously considering becoming an OKC fan.

This move is clearly an FU move by the league office because they don't want the next 5 years to be focused on their smallest market team.

That is the only explanation why Dallas did not even call them - and this move was kept completely silent. The NBA knew OKC has been hoarding picks for just this situation and them getting Luka and getting even better was completely unacceptable to them.

It is clearly a David vs Goliath situation - and I am very much on David(OKC's) side.

I think Dallas is a better version of the Wolves who spanked us last year. Big, long, and athletic across the board. Kyrie gets plugged into the Ant role and that improves them. Ant is a better individual player than Kyrie but as an offensive focal point Kyrie is better and he can find teammates when they're open and orchestrate an offense.

Luka is good, no denying that, but I don't see him ever taking the next step. He can be 85% of their offense and he needs to be because his teams play 4 on 5 on defense.
