Dontrelle Willis Trade Idea...

With How good Byrnes has been, and how deep we are in our Farm system is now the time we go after Willis... Our starting rotation is solid.. but Livan hernandez doesn't seem to be in the cards for next year.. so what about this trade

DBacks Recieve:

Dontrelle Willis

Wric Byrnes and Hernadez are F.A. that the DBacks are just going to let walk anyway, and IMO, we have one of the deepest Bullpens in the league, and Pena is a HUGE part of that as well...Sign Willis to a 5-6 year extention with the trade and our rotation is

From the Marlins propestive they get a quality starting pitcher in Hernandez that won't break the bank to resign, an All Star outfielder in Byrnes who also won't command top dollar to resign, a solid bullpen pitcher and a prospect that could turn out to be very good...

In your opinion, is this enough get Willis, and if it is, should the dbacks pull the trigger on the deal?

Two problems. First, the Marlins total payroll is 14 million and Byrnes and Hernandez combined make 12 million. Second, who is our third outfielder? Who is out lead off hitter? Who is our best hitter? We may have 5 solid starters, but you still need hitters.

You realize Gonzalez has been demonted to AA ball right...... and is batting .250 with an OBP of .270 this year... he is STRUGGLING big time and they are starting to wonder if is as good as they thought...

Willis is having an ok year.. but in 2005 he was 22-10 with a 2.63 ERA, and last year had a 3.87 ERA..... He is typically a 2nd half pitch anyway, and I fully expect by the end of this year he will be around 16-9 3.7 ERA...

Plus hes a good bat as well....

Finally I COMPLETELY disagree with you that he has been horrible this year.... Its just hes been soo good, that the 1st half of this season, he has actually been average, and now people jump on him and say he's horrible? He has not been horrible, by any stretch....

4.9 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, .285 BAA in the NL is disgusting. I would not do this trade. I think the team needs to focus on getting a power bat. There's no need to weaken the bullpen, which isn't all that great, and our starting pitching is fine.

And the whole point of the Willis trade is I was just thinking that if the DBacks are indeed letting both Hernandez as well as Byrnes go.. a trade of Gonzalez and Pena for Willis I think would be a decent idea for the Dbacks...

And maybe its just me, but I think for the most part our bullpen, especially Cruz, Pena, Lion, and to a lesser extent Valverde have been SOLID...

He wasn't very good last year, isn't at all good this year, and the Marlins people are starting to wonder if he's lost it.

You have to be above AA before you can get demoted to AA.

That's just it...we have really 4 guys in the bullpen pitching well. Valverde always worries me and Cruz just sometimes has it. Taking away maybe our best reliever is a foolish move. Willis just isn't worth it and if we trade Byrnes too, one of the few guys producing offensively...the team will take a nosedive right into the basement of the NL West.

Our team is okay. If we can't get a power bat then we shouldn't do anything at all.

Don't the Marlins play in a pitcher's park? Dontrelle hasn't dominated anyone in a long time, and it seems like he's been getting worse over the last few years.

Willis' ERA has been climbing the last few years while his K/BB rate seems to have gone up. Seems like a pitcher on the decline to me.

Believe me when I say the Marlins will not get low balled for Willis. Bet they ask for 2 uber prospects (Upton & Scherzer) and Owings. The price will be too steep especially when a couple of bats are more of a need.
