I would love for Foster to be our pick at 13, but my gut tells me the Bengals will take him with theirs.

Man, I feel like that's total hyperbole.

Ray Lewis - 6-1, 240 4.53/40
Patrick Willis - 6-1, 240 4.51/40
Luke Keuchly - 6-3, 242 4.58/40
Daryl Washington - 6-2, 230 4.58/40
Reuben Foster - 6-0, 230 4.65/40

Just strikes me as too small and too slow.

Size is right but don't really know his 40 time as he has not run one.

Instincts... that's how!

You are saying he's too small for a team that has a S playing ILB.

Jarrad Davis is definitely the best ILB in the draft.

Foster and Reddick have too many major red flags.

Except he has the worst instincts of all the top LBs. Great athlete, though.

Thats not true, Jarrad instincts are fine.

If we are talking about IQ, Im much more concerned about Foster. He reportedly struggled with x's and O's during team visits and Alabama themselves said he was slow to learn the defense. The mental aspect of the NFL is 99% of the reason why guys bust.

Luke Kuechly is the best ILB in the league. Hes not the biggest or fastest. But he is the smartest.

Jarrad's instincts are definitely not fine. More often than not, he is a step behind on diagnosing plays. You cannot teach instincts.

I'd be okay with spending a 3rd on him since he's a great athlete & is okay in coverage, but spending a 2nd?
No thanks. Not to mention his injury history. You can forget about it when it comes to spending a 1st.

Scout friend told me there are more injury concerns with Foster. He didn't elaborate but to me that means more than the shoulder.

My thinking is maybe that's why he was on edge at the combine hospital meeting.

First, I'm hoping for Foster, but doubt that he falls to us. I was then figuring we'd go with Reddick, but now I'm torn between Reddick and Zach Cunningham. Depends upon whether we want a guy who can play in the middle (ZC) or sideline to sideline (HR). Foster can do both.

Well, we know he had concussion issues.
I don't think he meant concussion but I'll find out. He told me about the concussion issues with the WR from A&M a few years back that the Cards drafted.

Foster said he had to change the way he tackles because of his concussions. He used to lead with his head too much. But now that he has tried to correct that, he's got a shoulder issue. With a flurry of ILBers opting for early retirement in recent years and with some of the great ones like Luke Keuchly suffering from concussions, it has to give teams pause when top ILB prospects come into the league with head and shoulder injuries. The thing about Foster is -- he's a gamer and a big-time baller, just like Keuchly, but teams are learning fast that the career span of ILBers is becoming much on a par with RBs'.

I heard back from him. In fact, both Howard and Foster visited the Jags a couple days ago. It's both shoulders that are the injury concerns. That's all there is. No mention of concussions being an issue. I guess I was reading more into it.
