OR who WON'T be in camp if you prefer.
Who will sign 1st? Who will hold out (if anyone)?
What does everyone think?
I think they'll have everyone in, mainly because DG and Fitz are close...although I don't know if that means much when ya get an agent involved!

Fitz will hold out all thatnks to the chargers/giants trade. In fact the top 4 may be out awhile.

Last year was the first year of Graves run as VP. He signed everyone before camp opened. In years past the Cards had a terrible time signing all the drafted players. THis has caused major things to happen in the wrong way. A prime example was Wadsworth who signed the day before our first season game and played, whiich IMO may have shortened his days as a player withouit any preperation.

Camp holdouts never have a good first year, especially with this club.

When did LDavis sign his rookie contract?

Will Fitz not be a problem to sign because of his relationship with Green?

With the change in attitude toward the injury waiver could "hold outs" be in camp for a while?

I would not expect any significant holdouts, with the possible exception of the guy who has the Posten brothers as his agents.

Thats Dansby. I suspect that since he was the 1st selection of the 2nd round and only the 3rd LB taken, his agents will say that he was really a first round talent and will demand their client be paid accordingly.

I think Fitz will be in on time. Dansby and Dockett may be a while. All the others should be signed before camp opens.

Fitz should be pretty easy to sign. The rookie pool is flat and Andre Johnson was selected at #3 last year, so it shouldn't be a problem to reach an agreement.

Dockett's was only a 3rd round pick so his contract will be slotted and shouldn't be a problem. Dansby will be harderst to sign IMO. Contracts in that area vary a lot and Dansby is represented by the Postons.

John Idzik will be negotiating Dansby's contract, and he has had a very good history with the Postons. Poston players aren't necessarily guys who hold out as rookies. They are more likely to hold out a player wanting to renegotiate, or at the end of a contract. I don't think Dansby will be a huge problem. Fitz is tough to figure out, but that is the only contract Rod Graves is negotiating and shouldn't be too difficult. The timing may not perfectly coincide with the start of camp, but he should sign around August 1. I'd expect Dansby signed July 25-29, and the rest done before that.

I'd love to see that happen - if not sooner than Aug 1, then AUg 1 is a good date to shoot for.

You playing dodgeball with the guys @ GCC?

Not if it is in August, I'll be in Flagstaff the whole time. But it sounds fun. I'll do all I can to get in that.

lrk is right about the Poston history. I just have bad, bad, feelings, man. Like, you know, bad aura surrounds us. Like blackness, dude.

Show me Idzik. Show me Graves. Show me Mike Bidwill. Then, and only then, will I believe. I leave for Flagstaff in 25 days. It's getting close.

Back away from the computer. Breathe. In. Out. Breathe.

The position where he was drafted is the biggest problem. The salary should be pretty easy to agree on, since it more or less will be slotted. The problem is the structure. Players in that draft area receive a variety of contracts and there could be major disagreements over the structure, length etc.

This sounds good in theory and I thought that this may be a stumbling block as well but, I looked up the last 5 first picks in the 2nd round and all have been in camp on time and have contracts that are perfectly slotted in between the #32 and #34 picks, both money wise and structure wise, even the amounts of the roster bonus and escalator were about the same.

Anyways for all of those keeping count:

15 teams still have not signed a single draft pick yet.

And here are how many players have signed per round:

1 out of 32 1st rounders
2 out of 31 2nd rounders
2 out of 33 3rd rounders
5 out of 36 4th rounders
3 out of 33 5th rounders
9 out of 36 6th rounders
10 out of 54 7th rounders

32 out of 255 total draft picks.

I have a scared feeling that Fitz will be tough to get without a holdout this year.

His slotting is tough since like swd mentioned you had that weird QB trade. There is still that weird "QB Money" argument, and since Indy set QB salaries out of the stratosphere with that insane Peyton contract, I don't know if Eli's agent is going to settle for last year's #1 money plus 5%.

This year is a disadvantage since the #1 did not agree to terms before the draft, and everything else can fall into place once the ceiling is set.

Plus, you have Rivers drafted at #4 there might be a conflict where he demands "QB Money", and I just don't know if Fitz's agent is going to wait after #2 is signed until they see what #4 Rivers gets.

Fitz is a receiver drafted at the #3 spot. The rookie pool is the same as last year, where Andre Johnson was drafted 3rd overall. It shouldn't be a problem.

True the rookie pool is fixed for 1st year cap hit, but it doesn't affect long term contracts, bonus structure, escalators, voidables and all that crap.

My concern is that if I am an agent, I don't want a #3 signing a less lucrative contract than a #4 pick.
