Find it hard to believe that he's asking for these big markets given his meek personality.

Sci Fi, it's not like the fans are making these decisions. ;)

And you know, in some ways, it's too bad they aren't.

I went back and read a huge thread about the Suns problems with the offense/3 guard thing from early in the season and the takes from most were pretty solid. There was quite a high degree of angst among many about the direction of the team. I remember you had a lot of reasonable stuff there as well as BC867, SF88 and others.

It will be very, very interesting to see what happens.

Wait, I thought you said we were all clueless morons. It almost looks as though you came to that judgment months ago without carefully reading what other people were posting. But that can't be the explanation, can it?

You say there is a chance he turns into a top 5 PG. I say he basically already did that. Hell, last year for a reasonable amount of time, he not only was that but he was a top 5 player in the entire league. Periods like this just don't happen very often and peak levels of performance are a reasonable guide for judging potential.

he's a top 5 PG? Chris Paul, John Wall, Westbrook, Curry, Lillard... are all VASTLY superior to Dragic as players AND PGs. After that, there's a HUGE drop-off with the next bunch, which Dragic is in... but there's a GULF of difference between 6-10 and 1-5.

And at NO point last season was Dragic a top 5 player OVERALL. At no point in the season was he in the world of LeBron, Durant, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Lamarcus Aldridge, James Harden. He had two GREAT months... in which he played very well... and the team did not.

You say "periods like that just don't happen very often and peak levels of performance are a reasonable guide for judging potential." But here's the issue with that... Dragic has NEVER had a period like that EVER BEFORE OR AFTER, so there's no possible way that you can say it's reasonable for judging his potential. As of right now, those two months... are the EXCEPTION to the rule, not the thing that proves it.

Dude's a very good player... could be a great, GREAT third star on a title contender, but he's not a 1 or a 1a or a 2... and he's going to be paid that way.

I don't like the way we handled any of this, but I also think people here overrate Dragic to a ridiculous degree.

Never change. I guess you didn't read my post the other day about why you attack new posters or perhaps you couldn't figure it out. I'm surprised. You're so smart. Geez, you used to give me all that great advise on how I could improve myself. You know, be different and great like you. Perfect in every way. So, thanks. Now, let me return the favor. Worry about yourself. That's a big enough job for anyone.

BTW, you weren't one of the good posters.

And neither were you. Now go call me a creep or one of the other many things you call me. You'll feel better.

Supposedly some of it has to do with his brother. Which IMO is pretty ridiculous. It was a favor to sign him in the first place. His brother supposedly refused a D-League assignment, which Goran took as a slight, no PT for his brother, Goran took as a slight.
No operation succeeds with rampant favoritism.

You tie up a roster spot with a brother of one already on the roster and you're going to have unrest on the team.

This whole Dragic episode of 3 lead Point Guards competing for playing time all season long, just as the childish behavior of Morris and Morris in games, is the result of a Front Office that should be running a circus rather than an NBA team.

Gimmicks cover up incompetence . . . but only for a short time.

This was all so predictable.

if there's ANY truth to the rumor that part of this is because of Zoran, then Goran's an idiot. Did ANY other team even sniff his brother's jock? This team made him a freaking MILLIONAIRE... apparently for no reason other then to make Goran happy.

Top 5 player is a ridiculous thing to say. I agree with the rest of your post, but I have to take an issue with the last sentence. Nobody credible here overrates Dragic. I don't think guys like Eric, BC, and I are under some illusion that Dragic is the top 5 player or that he could be the first option on a legitimate contender.

What we've been saying all along is that he and Bledsoe are simply not a good fit, and that Bledsoe (and later, IT) make Goran worse, not better. Some may argue that Dragic is a better player than Bledsoe, but that's a far cry from overrating Dragic as a star of some sort.

Do you REALLY think that there is any truth in that? Also, several teams were interested in him (I think Indiana was one of them) before the Suns signed him. Goran said that he had no idea McD was signing his brother. Don't ask me for the source, but it was on AZCentral in a Coro article I believe, and it's probably somewhere in the Zoran Dragic thread from a few months back.

I don't think I overrate him but I do rate him highly. Not that it's much gauge but in support of Sci Fi, Dragic did get MVP votes and was rated the 5th best player in the NBA by three different people:

Save your breath. You're talking to people who "know" everything. Here's what they've known since I've been here.

Pau Gasol was washed up.

Archie Goodwin will be a star.

The 2013-2014 Suns will win 20 games.

The 2014-2015 will win over 50 games.

Alex Len is awful. They need to get something better at center. He was a wasted pick.

The Morris twins are worthless.

Goran Dragic isn't worth ****.

Do you notice a pattern?

Not much funnier on a message board than the guy who loves to tell everyone else how smart he is and how stupid everyone else is. But when called out, acts the victim. Don't cry, I'm sure your mother likes you.

Thanks, Stefan. Not only that but the Suns turned the Point position (the quarterback) into a shoot-first position and moved Goran, as has been pointed out, to Shooting Guard waiting in the corner for the ball, then totally out of position at Small Forward.

Goran was the best Point Guard on the team, as honored by the league when Bledsoe missed half of the season and before Thomas was on the team.

It affected not only Dragic, Bledsoe and Thomas, but the rest of the team (especially closing out each half with all bumped up out of position). The Suns logo should be OOP. When done over and over, that's OOPS!

The Suns couldn't have done any more to discourage building teamwork. On offense and defense.

Did any other team have interest in drafting Dragic? Did any other team offer him a multiyear contract after his time in Houston? The Suns have done a lot for this kid. I see no reason to believe he'd show appreciation for signing his brother when he clearly doesn't appreciate anything else they've done.

He appreciated when the Suns re-signed him to run the offense after Nash was gone.

What he didn't appreciate was being bumped, not once but twice.

Would you?

Which is why I oppose the BPA principle. It totally disrupts team balance and causes problems for the rest of the team. (Emphasis on the word "team".)

Bumped? Is he a starter? Did they cut his pay? No, they asked him to play team basketball and be a member of a team. Instead, he chose to whine to the media and complain. He chose to call them liars. He chose to put himself above the team.

You're complaining about the Suns supposedly hurting the team by not making decisions based on one players selfish demands. Do you not see the contradiction? It's been a little over a half a season. The Front office has repeatedly said they are collecting assets looking for a major trade. Those don't come along often and it's only been a half a year since they signed Thomas. He was clearly signed as an asset. A good player on a low reasonable contract. These ridiculous claims that Dragic was slighted, screwed, or whatever are just stupid. The whole reason he's in line for a big payday is due to the Suns. But, you think it's ok for him to act as he is because he has hurt feelings because the team didn't put his prima donna attitude above the teams. Yeah, ok.

I can't say I have much of a clue where this team in heading but it doesn't look like it moving up into contention soon, which makes Goran a bad fit time-wise, IMO. I don't know if McD & Company would have viewed it that way so I think its fortuitous that Goran is forcing his way out. (He did leave us with little time to maneuver however.) Its unfortunate, albeit understandable, that he doesn't want to go to Houston because they might have given up Terrence Jones or maybe even Jones and Capela to get him.

Another serendipity of Goran's actions might be greatly increased playing time for our young guys since making the playoffs appears to be considerably less likely now. If IT is collateral damage, I won't be upset because I believe that Ennis will prove to be our best PG and IT would probably block his progress.

It is a sad state affairs when we have to depend on this kind of thing to get our coaches pointed in the right direction - and, of course, it may not do that.

you're right... I overstepped on the ridiculously so comment 100%. But I do think people overrate him a little bit here... some much more then others.

You cannot have killed Bledsoe over the summer and not kill Dragic now when arguably Bledsoe handled contract negations MORE professionally. The difference is that Dragic is white and Bledsoe is black and this town LOVES a white basketball player.
Yeah, no one liked Kevin Johnson. Or Elliot Perry.. or Shawn Marion.. or Mark West. Or Barkley. Or Gar Heard.

Seriously??? What a joke.
